KU-LING BROTHERS - HERE COME THE ASTRONAUTS
“The Ku-ling Bros stand out …stretches the parameters of what’s possible in a dance floor context and pushes the boundaries….Fans of Kraftwerk or DJ Shadow should seek them out”
- Buzz UK.
Western Australia’s Ku-Ling Bros are back after a long hiatus with their exceptional third album Here Come the Astronauts. Like the act themselves, Here Comes The Astronauts is a hybrid monkey ……
The Ku-ling Bros were critically acclaimed around the globe for their debut album Creach. The album’s lead single, Evolution of a Dope Fiend, which featured on the Dope on Plastic compilation, was a turntable hit and named number one club track by UK Face Magazine.
KU-LING BROTHERS Formed by Shane Norton from Soundlab and Stephen Mallinder, who is best known for his work with seminal electro punk pioneers Cabaret Voltaire, considered along with Kraftwerk as one of the most important influences on electronic music.
Muzik Magazine UK says, “Everyone from Frankie Knuckles, Richie Hawkin to young black DJs in Detriot were influenced by Cabaret Voltaire”.
The Ku-ling Brothers have also produced work by Shaun Ryder and remixed the likes of New York’s Little Egypt and UK’s Sneaker Pimps, Fila Brazillia, Happy Mondays and Gripper.
Here Come The Astronauts is an infectious mix of dirty guitars, low down bass and dirty, glitchy electronica. Shane-Astro–Norton is at the helm, navigating with plenty of digital trickery with string bending from Brother Kiriakos Lucas, guitarist diamond in the dirt and co founder of Perth’s electro pop out fit Yummy Fur and Stephen Mallinder giving it all a solid foundation.
They are joined by UK Soul Sister Millie James, Yummy Fur front man Andrei Maz, MCs Will Scarlett and Day One and not forgetting Shaun Ryder better known for Happy Mondays, Black Grape, The Gorillas and general trouble.
They are a band that straddle the Globe; members currently hanging out in parts of Perth, Western Australia and Manchester and Brighton in the UK. But it’s all going to come together live sometime soon. We’ll keep you posted.
“Outstanding…post sci fi reggae and intergalactic hip hop” - The Guardian UK
