DIRTY PROJECTORS' Bitte Orca rises above with one of the Best Albums of 2009 - Australian Tour March 2010
Do not miss one of 2009's most acclaimed bands in Australia this March.
Dirty Projectors can officially lay claim to one of the best albums of 2009 in ‘Bitte Orca’ according to everyone from the New York Times to Pitchfork. Superlatives such as ‘gorgeous’, ‘stunning’, ‘hyperactive’ and ‘undeniable’ are found all over reviews for this truly original work.
What crosses the mind the most when it comes to a band like this: what will they do next?
With such a diverse, experimental and talented group of people, it's an exciting prospect and Dirty Projectors have exceeded all expectations with two shows in February during which the band will play their Don Henley-themed modern opera album The Getty Address in its entirety with the 15-piece ensemble Alarm Will Sound and conductor Alan Pierson helping out. Pitchfork called this piece "a modern opera about post-9/11 America, the destruction of our natural wilderness, the confrontation between Hernan Cortes and the Aztecs in the early 16th century, and a protagonist named after Don Henley."
We are also thrilled to announce supports for these three hotly anticipated sideshows in Australia. In both Melbourne and Perth they will be joined by ambient pop-tress and loop pedal maestro Pikelet and in Sydney by the playful and trippy Danimals.
These sideshows are selling fast so don’t miss out on your chance to experience Dirty Projectors for the first time on Australian soil when they play Golden Plains and Lost Weekend 2010 as well as their very own headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Show details below.
Dirty Projectors love from the 2009 best-of year lists:
‘Dave Longstreth…yelps about remaking the horizon on this album, a creative breakthrough. His inspired designs, and the diligent effort of three powerful female singers, makes that claim feel plausible, staggeringly so’ – New York Times # 2 for 2009
‘One of the most heartening-- and least expected-- success stories of the year was Bitte Orca.’ - Pitchfork # 2 ALBUM for 2009 and #2 SONG
"The job of a music critic is essentially to describe music. For the past few years, the job of Dirty Projectors mastermind Dave Longstreth has been to make the critic's job undoable." – TIME Magazine # 2 for 2009
“Bitte Orca is, on its own terms, a stunning album.” – Stereogum #3 for 2009
the gorgeousness comes at you in fragments and bursts..” - The Guardian #4 for 2009
‘Bitte Orca is undeniable, a perpetually restless, endlessly challenging, deeply satisfying work of pop songcraft.’ - POPMATTERS # 4 for 2009
“The year's most original album: sideways harmonies, warped soul crooning, dreamlogic arrangements.” – Rolling Stone # 6 for 2009
Bitte Orca’ is easy on the ear yet mightily complex, warmly empathetic and a kaleidoscope of styles. Tumbling together we have ’60s psych-pop, prog, Scritti’s falsetto soul, a hyperactive take on King Sunny Adé’s Afropop and, to top it all, sassy, late-’90s R&B.’ - NME # 20 for 2009
