THE GROWL ANNOUNCE DEUBT EP, CLEVER LEVER
"Grimey and delicious."
– Paper-Deer
Clever Lever, the debut EP from Perth's THE GROWL is a collection of basement-birthed recordings littered with a cacophony of out of tune guitars, resuscitated pianos and broken cymbals.
THE GROWL's rehearsal room come recording studio is cluttered like a junkyard; pieces of guttering, smashed shakers, pots, pans, destroyed drums, a plethora of old synths and tape machines are piled against the walls. It’s dark, dingy and claustrophobic but it's been the birthplace of a collection of mighty tunes that have already began to blow people away.
The sounds are rough and raw but when coupled with frontman Cam Avery's unmistakeable deep but somehow soothing holler the sharp edges are seductively smoothed off and rounded out.
Lead single ‘Smoke It Down To The Bone’ displays grinding guitars, a vicious scrawl of percussion and an unsettling yet fulfilling barrage of gravel torn vocals. ‘3.6.9’ follows with an eerie but utterly intriguing taste of what makes THE GROWL so special.
Clever Lever has been mastered by Brian Lucey of Magic Garden Mastering in Columbus Ohio, the man responsible for the quality of sound found on The Black Keys' latest album Brothers.
On the live scene, THE GROWL have been hand picked to support the cream of WA talent including Pond, The Kill Devil Hills, Felicity Groom, The Silents and have been invited to join the lineups for the Southbound and Laneway Festivals.
Clever Lever is released nationally on March 11, 2011 through Shock Records. The official launch happens at The Bakery in Perth on April 8.
There is definitely something about The Growl. Listen.

THE GROWL ANNOUNCE DEUBT EP, CLEVER LEVER
"Filthy guitars, stoner lyrics and a sly, shifting rhythm… This is heavy stuff from the new Perth four-piece, grimy, sexy, confident blues rock that will leave the taste of iron on your tongue. Nice."
