DIE! DIE! DIE!

March 26th 2010 02:37
Die! Die! Die!
Exclusive New Single from Forthcoming New Album... AND an Australian Tour!

From the highly anticipated (and soon to be released) third album by international critic faves, - New Zealand's Die! Die! Die! - comes an exclusive new single (& video preview) of the incredible track, 'We Built Our Own Oppressors'.

Shot by UK based video producer/director Rohan Thomas (& filmed in New York City), this visually angular yet epic piece was filmed on a shoestring budget atop of one of New York's older style buildings with no railings or bordering walls for protection, & on a rather bleak day with high winds resulting in genuinely anxious mood reflected by the band members!

"We Built Or Own Oppressors" is the first taste of what's to come from Die! Die! Die's stunning new album.
Despite the title, this video really does say it all! Check it out here.

Already heard on radio across Australia, 'We Built Our Own Oppressors' continues to gather momentum with international airplay now being scored in the UK via XFM's Razor Cuts, West FM and night rotation on Radio NME (via the release on Too Pure UK)

To celebrate the release of this new track, Australia will see the return of Die! Die! Die! as part of their 'Oppressors Tour' this coming April. Full details as follows:

As proclaimed by London's respected tabloid, The Guardian - "A sense of danger, hunger and heat – qualities that so many current groups miss… other post-punk apostles should come gather at this alter, and prepare to kick the bucket"

DIE! DIE! DIE! The Story So Far
It's been a rollercoaster three years for Die! Die !Die!, who released their debut self-titled album locally in 2005 and have toured New Zealand, Australia, US, UK and Europe almost solidly since. In 2007 & 2008 alone the boys have achieved much (deep breath):

In March 2008 they left NZ shores for a 40 date tour of the U.S to promote the release of their debut album. They later joined old friends Wolfmother on the North American leg of their tour where they played to packed arenas of three to five thousand a night. In May they released their album in the UK and played 30-odd shows around England, Scotland and Ireland including various festivals.

A European release soon followed and the band found themselves personally invited to support Blood Brothers on five German dates and personal heroes Slint in Amsterdam, Belgium and France. In June Die! Die !Die! were asked to join a Club NME tour where they played shows in London, LA and New York. By July they were playing a month long residency at LA's famed Silverlake Lounge where they wrote and road tested much of their new album. Die!Die!Die!'s debut self-titled album was recorded in the summer of 2005 with the legendary Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Shellac).

This time round Die! Die !Die! employed the local, but no less legendary, talents of NZ rock luminary Shayne Carter (Straitjacket Fits, Dimmer) in his first producing role for another band. Carter had seen the band perform at a 2007 SXSW show where singer/guitarist Andrew Wilson was forced to forgo most of his guitar parts due to a broken hand. This pared back what was already a minimalist line-up, exposing the bare bones of both Die! Die !Die!'s songwriting and Wilson's piercing, plaintive vocals.

The fact that this band were still so visceral and overpowering with nothing but a rhythm section and a vocalist impressed Carter so much he approached the band about working with them on their next album. Having known Carter for a number of years as brethren, albeit inter-generational, of the prolific Dunedin rock scene, the band readily agreed.

Recorded in the same upstate New York barn where they recorded their 2006 Locust Weeks EP (owned and operated by Kevin McMahon of The Walkmen), Carter and the band bunkered down together for two long weeks, living and working in the barn. It is the longest time Die! Die !Die! have ever spent recording - their first album was recorded in three days, and the Locust Weeks EP in just three hours. For a band that were 19/20 years old when they recorded their first album and had only left the comfort of Dunedin a year prior, they now claim to have lost much of their naivety, the rose coloured glasses having fallen away.

2009 was once again filled with a very hectic scheduled performing sold out shows throughout UK, Europe and America with respected media entity, Spin.com stating that Die! Die! Die! to be one of the top 25 international must see bands. This alongside constant praise coming from an array of the finest within media circles including Pitchfork, NME, Artrocker etc.

2010 see's the conclusion of three extremely hard years of work; three lives that experienced growing up, friendships gained, friendships lost, respect, confusion, destroyed egos and pretend politics, living well and living hard and of most importance, tireless effort creating the brand new album which is about to be unveiled although preceded by the amazing single, 'We Built Our Own Oppressors' .

Sonically Die! Die! Die! Die! have become a much more dynamic band whose talent has been honed to diamond cut precision by constant touring. The drums still roll around and over you in an orgy of propulsion and the bass is still finding ways to menace your family whilst threatening to rip your heart from its cage. The guitars are still sparkling shards of glass and the vocals are still the high wailings of a bratty, brutish banshee. But this time there is light in the dark, melodies are explored and mined, real singing is employed. You think you know this band, and they know you think you know them, but that's half the fun. In a world of possibilities why limit yourself to other peoples expectations. In their own words...

"We are bringing grace to our records because we are allowed to."
Die! Die! Die! feel like (r)evolution.
