Details about the inaugural All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival on Cockatoo Island as part of Sydney Festival 2009 are set, after much weighing up, curators Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have finalized their ultimate line up, adding Australian 1980s rock darlings The Reels, US psych-rockers Dead Meadow and the avant-rock freak out Japanese two piece Afrirampo, alongside former Birthday Party guitarist Rowland S Howard, Melbourne bands, The Stabs and Beaches, Sydney outfits Hunter Dienna and Passenger of S**t, Bad Seed Conway Savage and Greek legend Psarandonis, as well as ATP DJs and the exotic Sounds of

With its carefully curated line-up and attention to detail, All Tomorrow’s Parties is all about a quality experience - the island, the music, the performances, the limited capacity, fine food and plenty of spaces to sit back and soak up the atmosphere. It’s the ultimate antidote to large, commercial music festivals, making it the quintessential Sydney Festival summer experience.
As well as the possibility of surprise collaborations, All Tomorrow’s Parties will be the ONLY chance to see Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Saints, Laughing Clowns, Robert Forster and Psarandonis perform in Sydney in summer 2009. These acts will be joined by an eclectic mix of artists, including
international guests Spiritualized, Harmonia, F*** Buttons, James ‘Blood’ Ulmer and Silver Apples, alongside locals The Necks and Bridezilla.
The full schedule, map and boat times are available now HERE
Tickets to All Tomorrow’s Parties include a return boat fare to Cockatoo Island. Boats depart from three locations (Circular Quay, King Street Wharf and Birkenhead Point) from 10am each day and punters can choose what time and which wharf they depart from when purchasing their ticket/s. Boats will be departing the island every 20–30 minutes (until 1am) following the performance by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Arguably one of the most significant bands of the last 20 years, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds will bring their intimate knowledge of Australian and international music to create an exciting and eclectic line up spanning 40 years of music. Legendary for their blistering live shows, the band will also be headlining All Tomorrow’s Parties. Their 2008 release, Dig Lazarus Dig!!! is their 14 th studio album and has already made many of the year’s “Best Album” lists, including the prestigious Mojo Magazine Album of the Year Award. Nick Cave also took out the 2008 ARIA for Best Male Artist.
Emerging in 1979 from the fertile Sydney post-punk scene, The Reels epitomized all that was good about the often misused term ‘new wave’ via the hits ‘Prefab Heart’ and ‘Love Will Find a Way’. Their 1981 track, ‘Quasimodo’s Dream’, was voted as one of the top ten Australian songs of all time by APRA in 2001. Releases such as their 1982 concept album Beautiful and the covers album Neighbours in 1988, ensures they are remembered and cherished as something more cerebral than kitsch.
US three-piece band Dead Meadow has a reputation for fierce live shows combining their love of 70s rock and boogie with strong 60s psychedelia and eastern influences. Over the past few years they have garnered a cult following the world over with a growing consciousness to their ‘dead’ sound. After releasing their self-titled debut in 2000, they unleashed the appropriately titled Howls From The Hills in 2001. The band and their most recent album Old Growth (2008) is their most accessible album to date.
Afrirampo
All Tomorrow’s Parties founder Barry Hogan claims Afrirampo as one of the greatest live shows to appear at ATP. Pitchforkmedia.com described them as ‘meteoric’. Since forming in 2002, this avant-garde Japanese girl duo have been wowing audiences with their mix up of free noise, improvisation and nonsensical call and response vocals. With an affection for catchy melodies, their live performances often alternate between manic, distorted pop and extended, abstract, improvised noise pieces composed of looping fret noise, droning feedback, guttural barks and impromptu squealing. Definitely one not to be
missed.
Rowland Stuart Howard
Rowland Stuart Howard is a Melbourne based guitarist and songwriter, best known for his use of electric guitar audio feedback in the post-punk group The Birthday Party and his collaborations with Lydia Lunch and Nikki Sudden. Howard was an influential figure in the iconic eighties outfits Crime & the City Solution and These Immortal Souls. More recently, Howard has turned to solo performance best exemplified on his 1999 album Teenage Snuff Film.
