Go backstage with Metallica. Respected rock journo Mick Wall, who has known the band on and off since their formation in 1981, moves on from his behemoth bio on Led Zeppelin to produce a definitive doorstop on Metallica in his book Enter Night.
Alongside contemporaries Slayer, Megadeath and Anthrax, Metallica came to prominence in the eighties as one of the 'big four' of thrash metal. Metallica were to thrash, though, what the Sex Pistols were to punk.
Nearly 30 years on, their tale is one of alcohol, rule breaking and tragically early death. But allied to that are colossal sales figures for their records – they are the fifth-highest selling recording artists of all time – and members with backgrounds that touch on jazz and classical music. Metallica, in fact, have garnered more critical acclaim than any heavy rock band since Led Zeppelin.
Mick Wall is a legend in heavy metal. Kicking off his career as editor of Classic Rock magazine, he’s gone on to interview all the heavyweights and write a stack of rock bios, including books on Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Axl Rose, John Peel, and his massive bio on Led Zepp, When Giants Walked the Earth. In Enter Night, Mick turns his attention to Metallica, a band that have garnered more critical acclaim than any heavy rock band since Led Zeppelin. Fresh from the critical and commercial success of When Giants Walked the Earth, Mick Wall takes a similar informed look at the band.
This is literate and intelligent rock journalism. A must for all metal heads and people who love their rock-n-roll.
Metallica are bringing their World Magnetic Tour to Australia in September and November this year. Gigs in Brisbane, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne in October and November have been confirmed as part of their first Australian tour since early 2004.
They will also perform one gig in Auckland.
Metallica formed in 1981 and went on to be one of the biggest rock metal acts in history, selling more than 100 million records worldwide. They have played to more than 3.5 million people in the past decade and began their current world tour in Arizona in 2008. Check out their website for more details:
