Bringing you the summer’s most electrifying beats, pioneering UK dance act FAITHLESS headline this year’s festival. Joining Faithless for 2011 are French indie rockers PHOENIX, electronic pioneer SASHA, rap / reggae combo NAS and DAMIAN MARLEY and viral phenomenon CEE LO GREEN! Genre straddling Diva KELIS will be bringing all the boys to her yard, alongside entertainment mogul LUDACRIS, soul sister ERYKAH BADU and FRIENDLY FIRES making a very welcome return to the line up. Also expect amazing sets from Swedish electropop stars MIIKE SNOW, enigmatic DJ / producer extraordinaire FAKE BLOOD, the golden boy of UK dubstep himself RUSKO, Riverside floor filler SIDNEY SAMSON, blockbuster vocalist JANELLE MONAE and rising cooler than you star MIKE POSNER. Also joining the line up are local upstarts YOLANDA BE COOL, Aussie hip hoppers KOOLISM, killer US electro house producer KILL THE NOISE, hotly tipped Perth youngsters TIM & JEAN and emerging young Brits FENECH-SOLER.
With all shows SOLD OUT in 2010 and an even bigger line up for 2011, festival fans are advised to look alive on September 16 when tickets go on sale.
Legendary UK dance act FAITHLESS are bringing their spectacular, must-see live show to Australia for the 2011 Good Vibrations Festival. Uniting fans across a multitude of genres since the British trio of Buddhist MC/poet Maxi Jazz, club doyenne Sister Bliss and visionary producer Rollo first emerged in the mid 90’s, Faithless take the audience on a epic journey with every new album, including their 2010 release The Dance
From garage beginnings in Versailles to collaborations with Air and Daft Punk, five studio albums and gigs at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Reading and Leads festivals, the French foursome PHOENIX have achieved critical and commercial success with their eclectic fusion of rock and synthesizers. Vocalist Thomas Mars, bassist Deck d'Arcy and guitarists Christian Mazzalai and Laurent Brancowitz have hit their stride with latest album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, earning a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album and the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot Alternative Songs chart with ‘1901’
There are DJ’s, and then there are icons. SASHA definitely falls into the latter category, recognised as one of the most innovative DJ / producers of our time. Propelling listeners into the future of electronic music by creating forward thinking concept albums such as Airdrawndagger, Involver and live events Delta Heavy and Fundacion, he blurs the boundaries between artist and DJ. Having redesigned the spokes in dance music’s wheel several times over, next on Sasha’s agenda is unveiling his phenomenal
new show at the 2011 Good Vibrations Festival!
Take one of rap’s most respected and prolific MCs, add in the pioneering torch bearer of Reggae’s royal family and you get the dream collaboration of NAS AND DAMIAN MARLEY. Prepare to witness these ‘distant relatives’ on stage together for the first time in Australia performing all their greatest solo hits, as well as critically acclaimed Hip Hop/Reggae tunes from their groundbreaking album!
As the voice of Gnarls Barkley, CEE LO GREEN stepped out of his early Rap music shadows and into Pop’s heart with the phenomenal success of ‘Crazy’. Now with his current single ‘F**k You’, a viral sensation clocking up You Tube views in the multi-millions within a matter of days, Cee Lo Green the solo artist has definitely arrived. And it couldn’t be better timing, with a sound so classic it’s futuristic!
Get ready for millennium Soul at its finest!
R&B darling, pop princess, and now dance diva: KELIS’ career has spawned hit after hit, including current smash ‘4th of July’, classics ‘Caught Out There’, ‘Trick Me’, and of course the ultimate ladies anthem ‘Milkshake’. The fierce and fashionable starlet has paved her own road in music, creating a
sound that is as equally unique as it is addictive. The latest album Flesh Tone presents Kelis’ most unified project to date with the shimmering, club-ready sound created in conjunction with some of the world’s hottest producers including David Guetta, Free School, Boys Noize, Burnz, DJ Ammo and Benny Benassi
Superstar rapper. Actor. Entrepreneur. Philanthropist. Restaurateur. Online visionary. Columnist – this is none other than LUDACRIS. The Grammy winning, Atlanta-based entertainment mogul will be whipping the Roots tent into a frenzy with his hyped up bangers!
Four-time Grammy award winner ERYKAH BADU is making her first ever trip to our Australian shores! Recently making headlines with her nude appearance in the controversial video for ‘Window Seat’, Badu first attracted our attention in 1997 with her groundbreaking debut album Baduizm. The soul diva extraordinaire will be unleashing her incredible vocal stylings and awe-inspiring live performances upon the crowds at Good Vibrations!
FRIENDLY FIRES are back on the line up for Good Vibrations with a promise to deliver their most energetic set yet for fans who missed out on seeing the boys from St Albans perform live at the festival in 2010. Ed Macfarlane (vocals, synths, bass), Edd Gibson (guitar) and Jack Savidge (drums) met at
school and formed their first band together at 14. Their self-titled debut album in 2008 was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and also scored them a nomination for “Best Dancefloor Filler” at the NME Awards. From then on the only way was up – the album going gold in the UK, a string of sold-out UK
tours to their name and a stand out act at Coachella in 2010
MIIKE SNOW is Swedish duo Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg and American songwriter Andrew Wyatt. The band makes pop music, but not as we know it. Their eponymous debut album, recorded in Stockholm in the 400 year old home used to house King Gustaf III's mistress, is a dance-floor charged, pulsing soundtrack which translated into one mind-blowing tour of Australia earlier in 2010!
Otherwise known as the British DJ, producer and musician Theo Keating, FAKE BLOOD has gained most recognition for his two major club hits, Mars and Blood Splashing (Fake Blood Theme). The self confessed b-boy initially made his name as one half of British Big Beat outfit The Wiseguys, of ‘Start
the Commotion’ and ‘Oh La La’ fame, and he is also a renowned graffiti artist.
Christopher Mercer, aka RUSKO is the golden boy of British dubstep. Bringing a different approach to the genre, his sound was quickly uptaken with his huge hit Cockney Thug having been played by everyone from Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo and Santogold. Rusko has also worked with M.I.A. on her third album Maya, with Rihanna and T.I. and released his latest LP, O.M.G.! in May
After being inspired by a DMC mix championship, SIDNEY SAMSON instantly knew he was interested in the art of DJ-ing. The Dutchman’s recent anthem ‘Riverside’ went Platinum in Australia and reached number 10 on the ARIA Charts, a common trend worldwide!
British music bible NME summed it up best: ‘If you don’t know JANELLE MONAE already, she’s Prince with a quiff. Michael Jackson let off the leash... Janelle Monae isn’t just the world’s greatest new pop star, she’s some kind of revolution.’ Get familiar with her name, as this electrifying lady is
heading our way, and about to become your favourite new artist you never knew you loved!
Really Long Link
Rising star MIKE POSNER has shot onto the music scene after making two of the year’s most talked about genre-defying mix tapes in his dorm room at university. Having already worked with GVF alumni Kid Cudi, Wale and Deadmau5 before his debut album 31 Minutes To Take Off even saw a release date, it’s safe to say Mike Posner is off to a damn good start! Blending electro, R&B and hip hop, Mike’s radiodestroying ‘Cooler Than Me’ is already flooding our airwaves and has sold over a million copies worldwide.
Spreading their brand of party tech even further, Australian band YOLANDA BE COOL, made up of duo Sylvester Martinez and Johnson Peterson have made their mark on the global music scene. In early 2010 they collaborated with producer DCUP, aka Duncan MacLennan, and released the single We No Speak Americano, which shot to #1 in every major music market.
The visionary collaboration between a world-class champion battle DJ and one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most lyrically unrivalled MC’s, KOOLISM are a force to be reckoned with! With almost two decades in the game, you’d be hard pressed to find a more block rocking and innovative group in
hip hop, be it locally or beyond!
From Los Angeles, California, Jake Stanczak better known as KILL THE NOISE has exploded into the electro house scene. Success in the studio has created many interesting opportunities for the young producer. Most notably, a busy worldwide touring schedule, a record label partnership with GVF 2010’s own Craze and most recently an invitation to perform on Tiesto’s Kaleidoscope World Tour in North America
Two young Australians TIM & JEAN have gone from obscurity to being courted by international record labels. Tim, 19 and Jean, 16 began collaborating through a series of pizza fuelled jams and one thing led to another. The boys’ signature dance driven indie-pop sound is now catching on fast with their lead single ‘Come Around’ in heavy radio rotation across the country and rapidly catching the ears of all the right people
Time Out magazine dubbed FENECH-SOLER as ‘The future of dancefloor-scorching electro-funk’, and we think they are spot on! Stealing the limelight on Groove Armada’s latest single Paper Romance, The UK quartet’s not-so-quiet underground buzz is heading overground as ‘Lies’, the first offering from
their debut album is already garnering massive spins across Europe!
