John Baker Duo
This coming Thursday (July 17) John Baker Duo are playing a “winter warmers” show in the front bar at The Gov. Starts at 9pm, free entry.
Winter Warmers @ The Gov (every Thursday) will offer a great way to spend a chilly evening … laid back original live music … acoustic, alternative, alt. country, pop, roots, blues, soul, jazz and folk. Warm your socks by the blazing open fires. Enjoy one of our great counter meals. The beers will be pouring and the music will be soft and sweet…
Thursday July 24, John Baker Duo (trio with Peter Rydell on Clarinet/sax) are supporting the CD launch for Martin Martini & the Bone Palace Orchestra (Melbourne) at The Wheaty, Thebarton. $15 entry.
They’re definitely a band worth seeing while they’re in Adelaide. This will be their first show of a national tour, so JBT are very happy to be their opening act.
Martin Martini doesn't really trust humans – he prefers animals and chess. His unconventional approach to life mirrors itself in his music. Nobody explained to him that you couldn't make an orchestra with just a few freakishly talented misfits playing clarinet, trombone, guitar, bass, drums and keys. So in defiance he formed the Bone Palace Orchestra; fusing grooves of jazz, blues, and matchless show-tunes; with good old fashioned rock'n'roll.
Also on the night will be Satans Cheerleaders. (Strange noodling guitars, distorted riffing, exhibitionism, distinctive drumming, bass & saxophone, yes saxophone and plenty of swirling organ to swim around in).
Sat August 2 at The Singing Gallery, McLaren Vale, with Caliente Trio. Playing with JBT as a trio will be John Aue on double bass).
The last show sold out, so phone for bookings on 0421 357 395.
Caliente guitarists Mike Bevan and Al Valodze are well known to Adelaide audiences for their intricate arrangements of Brazilian choro and samba music, as well as textured jazz improvisation. The critically acclaimed duo recently performed at the Adelaide International Guitar Festival and as the opening support to Yasmin Levy. Fellow guitarist Dylan Woolcock has recently joined the group, which will present a new repertoire of guitar trio music performed on six and seven string guitars, mandolin and cavaquinho.
