Kid Sister

The most talked about emcee to come out of Chi-Town since Kanye West, Kid Sister quite simply is Chicago. Whether she's making rap music, rocking parties with DJ A-Trak, or simply slanging bibs and teething rings at the children's clothing store where she works, she lives and breathes the same hip-hop heritage that's spawned the likes of Common and Lupe Fiasco. Just months away from the release of her highly anticipated debut album, she has left the underground buzzing with the release of her first single, Pro Nails - featuring an appearance by none other than her city's resident superstar, Kanye West!
First taking Chicago's music scene by storm with her hypeman and brother J2K - one half of DJ/production duo Flosstradamus - Kid Sister quickly became recognized as Chicago's next hip-hop prodigy. Taken under the wing of Kanye West's DJ A-Trak (one of her main producers and co-owner of Fool's Gold Records), Kid Sister was soon causing dance floor mayhem from Chicago to Paris; selling out shows at SXSW, appearing at Coachella, stunning crowds at the trend-setting Pitchfork Music Festival and stirring up an enormous buzz at Australia's 2008 Good Vibrations tour.
Building on the strength of early buzz, Kid Sister hit the studio and released two singles on A-Trak's Fool's Gold imprint: Control and Pro Nails. With the tracks quickly becoming favourites amongst DJs and bloggers everywhere, hip-hop superstar Kanye West took notice. Adding a verse to Pro Nails, appearing in its video, and placing the track on his Can't Tell Me Nothing mixtape, West's avid endorsement soon turned the track from an underground smash into an MTV and radio sensation. As Kanye said Yo, this is my sh*t right here. A-Trak didn't ask me to rap on this sh*t, it wasn't no favor, none of that sh*t. This is my sh*t. I love this song right here.
With Kid Sister appearing on the cover on URB's Next 1000 issue, and high-profile coverage running everywhere from MTV and i-D Magazine to the New York Times and Billboard - not to mention her BET Award nomination for Best Female Hip Hop Artist (alongside Missy Elliot, Eve, Trina & Lil' Mama) - the stage is perfectly set for the release of her Downtown/Fool's Gold debut album, tentatively set to drop in August this year. Featuring production from the likes of A-Trak and Spank Rock's XXXChange, it is already promising to be one of the 2008's most significant and paradigm-shifting records.
