Kristian Chong returns for The Firm

The fifth of The Firm’s 2010 concert series on 11 October at 8.00pm at Pilgrim Church 12 Flinders Street, Adelaide sees the return of internationally acclaimed Adelaide-born pianist Kristian Chong performing Fredric Chopin’s Preludes Op. 28; Alexander Skryabin’s Preludes Op. 74; Raymond Chapman Smith’s Fantasien; a new work entitled Neither Toil Nor Spin by Angelina Zucco and Variations on a theme by Chopin, by Roger Smalley.
Single tickets are $12 ($7concession) and may be purchased at the door.

Adelaide-born, Melbourne-based pianist Kristian Chong is rapidly establishing himself as one of Australia's leading musicians. Performances have taken him throughout Australia and the UK, and also in China, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan, USA, and Zimbabwe. As concerto soloist he has appeared on numerous occasions with the Adelaide, Melbourne, Queensland, Sydney and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, and various orchestras in the UK and China under conductors such as Graham Abbott, Werner Andreas Albert, Andrey Boreyko, Nicholas Braithwaite, Roy Goodman, Sebastian Lang-Lessing, Nicholas Milton, Tuomas Oillia, Marcus Stenz, Arvo Volmer and Marco Zuccarini. He has recorded and broadcast for Australian and American radio (WGBX - Boston), HKRT (Hong Kong), ABC-TV, and appears for Musica Viva Australia. His many competition successes include winning the Symphony Australia Young Performers Award (keyboard) and the Australian National Piano Award.
Currently Kristian is based in Melbourne but until recently was based in London, where has completed studies at the Royal Academy of Music with Christopher Elton and Piers Lane. He was a recipient twice of the Dip. RAM, the academy’s highest performing accolade, the Walter MacFarren award for the best postgraduate final recital and the Dorothy Grimstead Memorial Award for the most outstanding returning postgraduate student amongst other awards. In Australia he studied with Stephen McIntyre at the University of Melbourne, where Kristian also teaches Piano, Chamber Music and Piano Pedagogy.
The Firm offers all secondary and tertiary music students complimentary season tickets, available at the door. Concert patrons receive complimentary programs and post concerts drinks and may sample authentic European tortes by Gabriele.
The Firm is an Adelaide-based organisation that promotes the performance of new solo and chamber works, particularly those of South Australian composers. It also provides a performance platform for some of Australia’s finest young musicians. The Firm also presents special events and tours internationally.
