BILLY JOEL
AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND IN 2008!

Fans of the piano man prepare yourselves! The Frontier Touring Company welcomes back Billy Joel to Australia and New Zealand this November and December for a limited run of concerts. Billy will take to the stage in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney and - for the first time in 10 years will also play shows in Auckland and Adelaide.

Billy Joel is one of this century’s greatest musicians. Winning six Grammy Awards, selling in excess of 150 million albums worldwide, being inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and also the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame are just a few of the accolades Billy has clocked up over the years. Indeed it is thirty years since the release of Billy’s landmark album ‘The Stranger’. To celebrate this anniversary, Sony BMG are issuing ‘The Stranger 30th Anniversary Legacy’ edition with a bonus disc of live tracks. This collectors item is being released to coincide with the announcement of Billy’s tour through Sony BMG on Saturday July 12th.

Most recently Billy has been awarded the prestigious honor of giving the final ever musical performance at the renowned Shea Stadium. A sporting venue by trade – the home of the New York Mets major baseball league team – it has also had an illustrious music career that has seen performances from everyone such The Beatles and Led Zeppelin to name but a few. It’s a fitting end to have the incomparable Billy Joel, a native New Yorker, close the final curtain on this hallowed ground.

In 2006 Billy toured Australia thrilling the audiences and critics alike by playing all the favorites – Piano Man, Uptown Girl, New York State of Mind, River of Dreams and Tell Her About It amongst many others – in a two and a half hour spectacular. Breaking attendance records across Australia, Billy left everyone enraptured with his performances.

The Herald Sun announced: “…his performance showed why he remains one of the premier acts of the world”. The Courier Mail were similarly thrilled: “There were no huge screens, no pyrotechnics, no gimmicks at all – unless you count a revolving piano – because Joel didn’t need them. The focus was all on the piano man – just as it should be.”

“Billy Joel performed with expertise and intensity all night long.” announced The Age, and the Sydney Morning Herald concurred: “…he is a well-seasoned entertainer, with a gift for writing songs that push all the crowd-pleasing buttons.”

Tickets to see Billy Joel were snapped up in record time, and with Auckland and Adelaide added to the agenda, you can expect demand to be unprecedented. Secure yours when they go on sale this Friday 25 July.

Pre-sale tickets will be available from Tuesday 22 July. Head to Frontier's web page for further details.

Yeasayer

July 11th 2008 07:42
From Brooklyn, New York
Yeasayer
Australian Tour announced
October 2008

Yeasayer sound gloriously off-the-dial. The Age

Yeasayer announce they are taking a cosmic trip. The band will soon commence a spiritual journey from a mythical land (Brooklyn, New York) to our far off country.

This magical voyage has been much anticipated. With the indie blogosphere firmly in their corner, the eclectic four piece have made quite the name for themselves in a parallel dimension; the internet. Vest wearing brethren Chris Keating, Anand Wilderwere, Ira Wolf Tuton and Luke Fasano make up team Yeasayer each one a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Together they harmonize and take us on a phantasmagoric journey through time and space. They produce a strange and alluring sound' Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel- an apocalyptic vision drawn out of odd pop, 70s soft rock, African rhythms and psychedelic soul.

The Yeasayer debut long player All Hour Cymbals released late last year catapulted the foursome around the globe, into the minds of many a critic and music fan. They completed a mammoth US tour with friends MGMT and Man Man, and recently provided support to Beck on his European tour.

Yeasayer venture to Australia to deliver their famously trippy live show at The Great Escape Festival this October. with headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Please see below for show details.

The result is a unique form of indie rock world music that resists stepping into the essentialist, ethnocentric traps consistently tripped by high-minded hipsters. Pitchfork Media

MGT

July 11th 2008 07:28
Adelaide Festival Centre's trans:mission program presents
MGT

Austrian innovator Wolfgang Muthspiel, Australia's own Slava Grigoryan and US legend Ralph Towner come together to form guitar trio MGT, which will perform on 20 August at Her Majesty's Theatre. The performance is part of a national tour celebrating their debut CD release From a Dream, following their time here at the Adelaide International Guitar Festival in 2007. They previously toured Australia in 2005.

"Our first CD as a group From a Dream really highlights and celebrates our individual musical influences which is rich in displaying our own artistry within a trio format. We aimed to create a truly new ensemble 'voice' in the guitar world," says Grigoryan.

As MGT, Muthspiel, Grigoryan and Towner are intent on expanding the guitar repertoire. All are classically trained while varying in age and heritage and leading vividly different forays into world, jazz, and modern classical music. Forming MGT three years ago has been a dream come true for these accomplished individual performers and their world-wide fans alike.

Wolfgang Muthspiel is an internationally acclaimed guitarist/composer, and commands attention worldwide as an artist of deep integrity, intelligence and daring musicality. He takes solo performances to a new level, incorporating sophisticated electronic loops, samples and other sound sources with his instruments. European Jazz prize winner for 2003, Wolfgang Muthspiel is one of the most exciting artists on the jazz and classical scene today. His onstage improvisations are said to be "miracles of intensity."

Slava Grigoryan is well known to Australian audiences as an extraordinary classical guitarist. After a very successful involvement in the 2007 Adelaide International Guitar Festival, he will also be involved in 2008. Slava's performances in Australia include solo, duos and album releases with his brother Leonard and concertos with chamber and symphony orchestras. Slava is also a member of Saffire (The Australian Guitar Quartet). He continues to tour internationally across Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East, and his home continent of Australia.

Ralph Towner has a distinguished career that stretches back more than 30 years as an internationally acclaimed 12 string and classical guitarist. He also plays piano, synthesizer, percussion and trumpet and has made notable recordings of jazz, classical music, folk music, and world music. Best known as the lead composer, guitarist, and keyboardist for the acoustic jazz ensemble "Oregon", Towner has also had a rich and varied solo career that has seen him collaborate with such great modern musicians as Gary Burton, John Abercrombie and Jan Garbarek. He was even honoured by Apollo astronauts who carried his music on cassette to the moon, officially naming moon craters after his compositions Icarus and Ghost Beads.

MGT will perform solo, duo and trio sets with pre-composed material, spontaneous composition and improvised mastery.
