Continuing his work in support of the environment Jack Johnson’s 2010 To The Sea Tour will collaborate with hand-chosen community groups in Australia as part of Johnson’s All At Once Community.

The tour established a relationship with over 25 non-profit groups in 2008, such as the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation, CERES and the Australian Conservation Foundation, donating money and time to promote their work in the field of environmental education and sustainable agriculture.


As well as providing an onsite presence for these groups as part of the Village Green, Jack will once again be donating 100 percent of his 2010 World Tour profits to charity.

Jack is excited about the announcement to bring his All At Once Village Green to Australia, where you can get involved with groups from your community and take action! JACK’S fifth studio album “To The Sea’’ debuted at #1 and has produced two singles, the beautiful melodic slice of electric bliss “You And Your Heart” – and the current single “At Or With Me” who’s hilarious video has just arrived.

“Hidden from the eyes of the world, the oldest living culture in the world fights for freedom. This is their untold story.”

This independent documentary is a rollercoaster journey into the heart of Australia’s Indigenous relations, a hidden shame that is pushing the world’s oldest living culture to the edge. Through the stories of the Yolngu of Northeast Arnhem Land, the film looks at the Government’s ongoing policies of paternalism and assimilation, examines the real issues underlying Indigenous disadvantage, and opens dialogue on ways forward that respect Aboriginal culture and dignity. A fresh and unflinching look at unresolved issues, with music by John Butler Trio, Yothu Yindi and Gurrumul.

The film has recently been launched in Darwin to critical acclaim, and is giving a one-off screening at Reggaetown Festival as part of its nation-wide tour.

The 75-minute film will be followed by Q&A discussion with the film-makers Sinem Saban and Damien Curtis and live music by very special guests from the Reggaetown Festival line-up.

Following on from the first line-up announcement earlier this month, now comes the mega second announcement - and it’s huge!



King Kapisi
Heading the announcement is New Zealand Hip Hop maestro King Kapisi. Hailing from Wellington but with Samoan heritage, King Kapisi was the first NZ hip hop artist to win the prestigious Silver Scroll Award at the APRA awards for Songwriter of the Year, for his 1999 single Reverse Resistance. Sales from his albums Savage Thoughts and 2nd Round Testament have both reached the gold status mark, whilst internationally he’s toured throughout Europe, the US, Japan and Australia, supporting the likes of Janet Jackson, Moby, Black Eyed Peas, Beastie Boys, Michael Franti and Spearhead, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more. King Kapisi is well and truly one of NZ’s greatest Hip Hop artists and it’s a pleasure to have him at Island Vibe 2010.

Mista Savona
A much loved part of Island Vibe, Mista Savona hits up Straddie after the release of his brand new album Warn The Nation. Signed to Elefant Tracks, the album follows after his critically acclaimed 2007 release Melbourne Meets Kingston, which recorded over three years with a collaboration of Jamaican and Australian musicians. He is the first Australian producer to release his own riddim series in Jamaica, the successful Fire Dragon Riddim featuring performances Sizzla, Burro Banton and Vida-Sunshyne. They also feature on his new album, as well as heavyweight dancehall and reggae artists Capleton, Anthony B, Alton Ellis, Bungle, and Horace Andy. Featuring swirling middle eastern strings, sub-bass mayhem and bad-ass beat programming, the album stands as a dense, mesmerizing, raw, beautiful and powerful vehicle for Savona and his collaborators. Bunna Lawrie
A member of seminal act Coloured Stone, Bunna Lawrie is a statesman of the Australian music industry. He was awarded the Don Banks Music Award in 1999 for his outstanding contribution to Australian Music – the first time this award has ever gone to a rock musician, let alone an indigenous one. Bunna founded Coloured Stone in the small SA community of Kooniba in 1978, and some 32 years later the band is still touring, having played Big Day Out and Woodford Folk to name a few. Bunna is set to take to the stage solo at this year’s festival.

Add to that Ali Baba feat. Greg Sheehan, Mr Percival, Spacifix, Saritah, The Nomad, Cheap Fakes, Raz Bin Sam and The Lion I Band, Bobby Alu, Erther, Resteteser, Juddah, The Flumes, Anarchist Duck, One Rude Ape feat. Sunny Dread and DJ Catkid.

ACCOMMODATION UPDATE

There is still plenty of accommodation available, but make sure you get in quick to ensure you get preferred splice of the island. Camping spots are available at Amity Point and Dunwich, and with regular and rapid bus services running across the island, it’s easy to get between your campsite and the festival. Amity is quickly filling up though, so don’t delay! Redlands City Council handles all camping on the island, and can be booked directly through 1300 551 253.

Now into its fifth big year, Island Vibe has solidified its reputation as the leading Reggae, Roots and Cultural festival in the South Pacific. The Greener Festival Award
Island Vibe was one of 8 festivals and the first from Queensland to be awarded the 2010 Greener Festival Award. The awards are presented to festivals who show a dedicated commitment to the environment, both through their actions and trying to positively impact those of their attendees. Island Vibe was commended for making sure beverages were consumed from reusable cups, ensuring our market vendors lead the way through use of biodegradable products, plates, detergents and packaging, and collecting all organic waste and donating it to the first ever Stradbroke Island Community Gardens, and finally aiming for a plastic bag free event.

HILLTOP HOODS' State of The Art goes DOUBLE PLATINUM

Look out for the HILLTOP HOODS new zombie movie, Parade of The Dead - set to be released at the end of October around Halloween.


Just over a year on from release, Australia’s premiere Hip Hop crew the HILLTOP HOODS' album State of the Art has reached DOUBLE PLATINUM status.

The double platinum certification caps off an amazing 12 months for Hilltop Hoods which saw them release State of the Art in new international markets including Canada, Germany and Switzerland. The last year has also seen them appear at festivals across Europe, sell out shows in Canada and tear up two national tours domestically.

A first for any Australian Hip Hop act, this double platinum achievement also follows a series of accolades including a two week stint at No.1 on the ARIA charts on release, ARIA awards for best urban release and best engineer, an APRA award for urban work of the year and gold certification for the single Still Standing, and platinum certification for the single Chase That Feeling.

Internet Censorship Victory!

Late last night the Australian Coalition announced it won't be voting for an internet filter that censors the web. This comes after the Australian Government responded to the Get Up! campaign by deferring the filter until 2012 (with the likelihood that the filter will never come back in its current form).

With independent Senator Nick Xenophon, the Greens and now the Coalition all walking away from the ineffective policy of censoring the internet, there is now no way for the Senate to pass this scheme.

Access provides ways for you to provide your voice, your bandwidth and your resources to continue the global flight.



Today's announcement is a real example of the power of an organised, mature, online movement. Indeed it was new technology and the power of online campaigning, which was itself at risk from internet filtering, that brought this campaign to the masses.

Artist registrations now open for Adelaide Fringe 2011!


Registrations are now open to visual artists, presenters, film makers, puppeteers, performers of circus, theatre and experimental art and anyone else who has an act, vision or idea to participate in the largest Arts event in the Southern Hemisphere - Adelaide Fringe 2011!

Artists can register their events online from August 4 to October 15 at adelaidefringe.com.au to immerse themselves and their craft in a melting pot of creativity; surrounded by audiences of over 1 million and a wealth of artists, presenters, producers and industry folk from around the world.

The phones are up and running, the office mirror ball dusted, the rug laid, the lamps lit and the how-to guides bound. Our Artist Services team - Michelle, Carin and Eugene - are ready to answer all questions about how to register a show and find a venue

Why is Dick so funny? The buck rests with openly gay writer director Andrew Fleming it's much more fun than Threesome (1994) another of his films on video. I think it's his camp sensibility that lifts Dick up and holds it firmly in cheek. It is not the glorious comedy of stupidity like The Brady Bunch Movie, it isn't a satire, Dick remains truthful and as close to reality as possible, so the circumstances and characters are easy to accept. Seriously funny stuff. I'll call it queer rather than camp because it has the sort of edge The Brady Bunch Movie much as I love it, never even attempted.

The cast work very well as an ensemble and there are brilliantly colorful moments as well as brief encounters with deeply felt and expressed feelings. It would be a fabulous video to watch with Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and so cool to sit home and see with a group at a slumber party. It could even be useful to watch if you want to flunk a Modern American History class. I take my cap off to the whole team who have brought it to life.

I imagine if Marcia and Jan Brady were available they would have been cast in this queerly delightful film, I'm sure they had a part to play in the conception of it.

It's an excellent family film, full of extremely enjoyable moments that made films like Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and Cluless, so much fun. Using the same sort of conceit as Forrest Gump does, Dick gets deeper than Romy & Michele or Cluless, by placing the two blonde girls slap bang into the whole Watergate scandal, but only as a plot point to drive the story.

Rather than originating every major development in American culture (Run Forrest, run!) these two blondes simply assist in exposing one big fat silly Dick, Richard Nixon that is.

Kirsten Dunst as Betsy and Michelle Williams as Arlene are no less than brilliant as they scream, giggle, scream, secret-whistle, scream, stupefy and scream their way down the corridors of the Whitehouse in 1970's Washington D.C. Not since her steely characterisation as the child vampire in Interview with the Vampire have I seen Dunst hit the nail so heavily on the head acting wise. Michelle Williams (a regular cast member of Dawson's Creek at the time, pre-Heath and Matilda) is every part equal as the ever so slightly older, but none the wiser fatherless friend.

Together they seem like Marcia and Jan one moment, or fashionwise, a young Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone the next. All derivatives aside, these actors create likeable characters you will remember.

Dan Hedaya is Nixonesque enough to make Anthony Hopkins seem pale in the Oliver Stone feature not that you could otherwise compare the two. His hatred for the presidential pooch Checkers is a great running gag to watch and his mood swings seem truthful to a tee.

Costume Designer Deborah Everton dresses the two girls in fine 1970's fashion. I'm almost sure I've seen Jan and Marcia in those pyjamas.

I'm proud to say I even wore clothes like the studly young dude Betsy tries to seduce as the girls steal one of the tapes Nixon lost when I was his age. I couldn't say anything bad about this film, if you saw it on the screen, take it home on video and see it again because it's as sophisticated as classic queer comedy comes. If you wondered what I mean by queerly funny, substitute the word camp, but remember we have two teenage girls involved with the President, his dog, journalists from the Washington Post; I think it's fair to say this is better than camp.
