MISSION:METALLICA

August 7th 2008 05:54

METALLICA’S INTERACTIVE WEBSITE LAUNCHES LIVE IN AUSTRALIA THIS WEEK

MISSION:METALLICA.COM ENABLES FANS TO EXPERIENCE THE BAND’S UPCOMING ALBUM BEFORE IT’S DONE VIA EXCLUSIVE CONTENT UP UNTIL THE RELEASE DATE

Mission:Metallica is a unique new commercial business model designed to enable fans to access exclusive content from Metallica, leading up to the release of the band’s forthcoming new album, Death Magnetic in September.

The platform, developed by Metallica in tandem with Universal Music and Warner Brothers, also gives fans the opportunity to pre-order Death Magnetic.

Fans will be able to pre-order the album in digital and/or physical formats (including a unique special deluxe Coffin shaped box with a T shirt, digipack, dvd , CD of demos and other exclusive items) and access the exclusive content via a selection of bundles though www.missionmetallica.com via each territory’s retail partner(s).

Originally launched in the U.S, Canada and the UK in late may, the rest of the world is now ready to join in the full experience with 31 countries launching live bespoke local versions this week

Territories live this week include: Australia, Austria, Czech Republic , Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Korea, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Romania, Turkey, Belgium and Eire

www.missionmetallica.com offers users a unique, ground-breaking look-in on the making of Metallica’s upcoming ninth studio album, which the band began recording last year with producer Rick Rubin.

Rather than wait until the album’s September release date, Metallica fans are able to access 'making of footage' before the release of the album by joining www.missionmetallica.com

The website features a treasure trove of exclusive content, including the low-down from the band members themselves about their progress in the studio via fly-on-the-wall video footage, audio of riffs and excerpts of new songs, exclusive new and never-before-seen archival photos from the studio, plus the chance to win tickets and meet-and-greet passes to Metallica’s live concert events this summer. All of this content is absolutely free.

And if that free content isn’t enough, fans can also join Mission:Metallica Platinum, which gains users access, high-quality digital album downloads delivered at midnight on release date, the physical album CD, plus complete downloads of classic live shows, more fly-on-the-wall studio footage, loads of additional photos, and ringtones of riffs from the new album. In addition, Platinum members will be able to enter exclusive contests with the chance to win airfare, hotel, concert tickets, and meet-and-greet passes to Metallica’s headlining performances at this year’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Ozzfest, and the U.K.’s Reading Festival, as well as a special album listening party at the band’s Northern California headquarters.

The album, Death Magnetic will be released in September. It is Metallica’s first studio album since 2003’s multi-platinum St. Anger, which hit No. 1 in 30 countries and has sold nearly six million copies worldwide. Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica has become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold nearly 100 million albums worldwide and playing to millions of fans the world over. They have garnered numerous awards and accolades, including seven Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and three MTV Video Music Awards. In addition, their 1991 album, Metallica has been awarded the prestigious "Diamond Award" from the Recording Industry Association of America, given to those albums with U.S. sales of 10 million or more.

BATTLE OF THE CHOIRS WINNER IS…

August 4th 2008 06:23
The University of Newcastle Chamber Choir
Debut album Battle Cry out now

Available exclusively through participating Australia Post outlets from today

It was state vs state, classic vs contemporary in last night's Battle of the Choirs grand final on Channel Seven. The classic ensemble The University of Newcastle Chamber Choir went head to head with contemporary youth groups Harambee and VoxSynergy, both from Melbourne.

The University of Newcastle Chamber Choir was victorious and took home $100,000 in prize money along with an album deal from Universal Music. University of Newcastle Conductor, Philip Matthias, said the Choir's journey throughout the competition was exhilarating and intense, and a great learning experience for all:

"We obviously transformed from a 'classical' choir to 'rock' choir, but there was no pretence here - it was a real transformation. Interestingly this has fed back into the Choir's classical style. They are certainly freer in approach and embody the music more - a great result.”

"With the prize money we hope to establish and sustain a complete range of choral activities through the Conservatorium for people of all ages and walks of life, including the disadvantaged. We hope to increase awareness of the enormous benefits of being in a choir, not only for the singing of course, but for social and health reasons as well.”

Their debut album Battle Cry is released today exclusively through participating Australia Post outlets. It features a collection of songs that The University of Newcastle Chamber Choir performed throughout the show. Classic tracks including Bohemian Rhapsody, Great Southern Land, Bat Out Of Hell, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Angel, Purple Haze plus many more.

Click HERE to watch The University of Newcastle Chamber Choir in studio and the making of Battle Cry.

Battle Cry is full of the songs that made you cry, the ones that made you dance and the songs that made you sing at the top of your lungs.

CODGERS will open this week at Riverside Theatres from Wednesday 30 July ahead if its NSW tour. This new Australian comedy is about aging, racism, inclusion and acceptance, all wrapped up in people's secrets. This winner of the prestigious Rodney Seaborn Playwright’s Award 2006 includes a talented ensemble of Australian actors: Ronald Falk, Ron Haddrick, Edwin Hodgeman, Jon Lam, Graham Rouse and Henri Szeps. "I think you are on to something quite special - a thoughtful comedy about the changing face of Australia," said director Wayne Harrison to playwright Don Reid.

Five senior Aussie men, four of them mates since war service, meet one morning each week in a gym. They exercise together; chew the fat, laugh, tease and sing. They solve the problems of the world, agreeing to disagree.

But some surprising and disturbing elements enter to test and challenge their comfortable relationships with one another and to the world around them. Secrets, differences and loss of trust threaten to destroy the long-established friendships. Amidst the back strain and biceps, the jokes and the secrets, they learn that ‘difference’ is more a matter of point of view; that 'you wouldn’t be dead for quids' and, no matter what, that you gotta laugh!

Henri Szeps, who plays the youngster and philosopher Rod Dean, is best known for his role in the acclaimed television series Mother and Son. He has also been seen on stage in Dead White Males for the Sydney Theater Company, Operator and currently QED for Ensemble and in his Helpmann Award winning role for Cabaret.
