Adelaide Festival Centre's trans:mission program presents
Misinterprotato
Adelaide Festival Centre's ongoing world music program, trans:mission, proudly presents one of Australia's most inventive contemporary music ensembles, Misinterprotato, appearing for one night only in the Piano Bar on Thursday 2 October starting from 7.30pm. More than a traditional jazz trio, Brisbane's Misinterprotato expands the capacities of the classic piano/bass/drums combination. The result is a skilful blend of dense, exciting improvisations and delicate atmospherics, conjuring up sounds of modern jazz, ambient music, avant garde rock, free improvisation and contemporary classical music.
Formed during studies at the Queensland Conservatorium, Misinterprotato features Sean Foran (piano), John Parker (drums) and Patrick Marchisella (acoustic bass). These three award-winning musicians have a unique ability to captivate jazz fans and non-jazz listeners with their music, which has won them accolades from critics and audiences alike.
After two acclaimed albums, Now For the Free and In is In, the group's newest release Variations finds a confident group of musicians who are truly flourishing. Variations encapsulates the vision, virtuosity and passion to discover new ground which sets this group apart, and is their finest yet. Vastly dynamic the trio stretches from subtle ballads 'Please' and 'Accent' to dense ferocious tracks such as 'Chunk', 'The Unknown' and 'Variations on a Bad Day'.
Misinterprotato has toured the country extensively, playing at various festivals including the Wangaratta Jazz festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Apollo Bay Festival. Overseas, the group has appeared at the Calgary International Jazz Festival, Canada and Kutchan Jazz Festival, Japan.
Misinterprotato will play in the Piano Bar, where cabaret seating will provide an intimate performance space. Book a table with friends and receive a discount when you buy six or more tickets.
