Musica Viva Festival | Sydney
October 3rd 2008 00:14
On 15 July 2008 Musica Viva announced the generous gift of $100,000 p.a. for 3 years received from the Berg Family Foundation to help create the Musica Viva Festival. The Berg Family were inspired by Musica Viva's vision to fill the city of Sydney with a fantastic array of concerts, master classes and dynamic interaction between great musicians - young and old, local and international - to create five solid days of unforgettable musical experiences.
The Bergs have been involved with Musica Viva since 1947 when Charles Berg became one of the founding members. This tradition has carried on, with his son Tony Berg joining the board in 1983, and holding the role of Chairperson from 1986 - 1998.
Musica Viva is a uniquely Australian creation, tackling the tyranny of distances both within Australia and of Australia from the rest of the world. We share with Musica Viva a vision of bringing the best musicians to Australian concert audiences, and also making sure those musicians are able to work with the best and brightest of our emerging talent right here in Sydney. The mix is bound to be amazing, and we are excited about being a catalyst in
this initiative.
