NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD
to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival
MADMAN CINEMA is delighted to announce that Mark Hartley's debut feature, NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD has been selected to screen at the prestigious TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL.
The film will screen in the Toronto Midnight Madness section and will be accompanied by a specially curated Ozploitation retrospective. NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD is the wild, wonderful, untold story of OZPLOITATION films. It irreverently documents an era when Australian cinema got its gear off and showed the world a full-frontal explosion of sex, violence, horror and foot-to-the-floor, full bore action!
Full of outrageous anecdotes, a large cast of local and international names and a genuine, infectious love of Australian movies, it’s the first feature by Mark Hartley who has officially been researching NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD for the past ten years, but has basically spent a lifetime watching, studying, researching and enjoying Aussie genre films.
I hope my film helps to shine a spotlight on the undervalued maverick auteurs of our industry who overcame all obstacles to bring high-octane thrills and blood-soaked chills to the big screen with a distinctly Aussie spin! These films found enthusiastic audiences across the globe in the 70s and 80s - and I can't wait to see the reaction they provoke from a whole new generation of genre lovers worldwide. Mark Hartley
