MIDNIGHT OIL | Up close in the capital!
February 25th 2009 07:23
The seminal Australian rock outfit, Midnight Oil will reunite up close in the capital for two rare shows on Thursday March 12th and Friday March 13th at The Royal Theatre, Canberra (National Convention Centre).
The classic catalogue of songs, the crisp musicianship, and the one hundred percent commitment to live performance will as always be the hallmark of a Midnight Oil concert.
Midnight Oil have been delivering for over 30 years and with a legacy of nearly 20 revered releases and countless epic live shows, this is an opportunity to see why the respect and admiration for the band goes way beyond awards or records sales.
The last hit out for The Oils was headlining the landmark Wave Aid Tsunami Relief Concert in 2005 when they closed the show in a typically engaging and emphatic way. Four years on the band are set to release all their pent up energy and enthusiasm on stage in the nation’s capital. In true Oils form there have always been two shows prior to the roll out of events. The Oils will conduct these two up close and personal shows in Canberra for their fans in order to be match fit for the major event, that being their performance for the Red Cross Victorian bushfire appeal at the Sound Relief concert at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday March 14, where there is a job to be done for those who gave a great deal and need much more.
To make this momentous occasion occur lead singer Peter Garrett has a short walk from parliament house whereas bass player Bones Hillman will be flying in from his home in Nashville. Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie and Martin Rotsey will make the journey down to the national capital from Sydney where they’ve been busy writing, recording, performing, and producing various projects.
The full Oils crew and team have reunited to crank up the juggernaut and we invite all Midnight Oil fans to join in this rare reunion. These performances are set to deliver the full tilt Oils extravaganza the band is so well regarded for. Expect nothing short of an emotionally charged set packed with a powerful punch full of Oils classics as the band seize the stage in the nation’s capital come March 12th and 13th.
