A Night of Music, Art and Magic with OperArtUnity
To celebrate & support Opportunity International to transform lives of people living in poverty
On Thursday 18 March 2010, a special night of music, art and magic will be presented to support Opportunity International help transform lives of people living in poverty.
Opportunity International is an extraordinary organisation that really solves poverty in developing countries. With over a 10-year history of stunning life-changing stories, the organisation offers micro financing and support services to those in need. Rather than a hand-out, they provide individuals with a loan as small as $100 (microfinance) to help grow their small business. This enables them to earn an income and afford food, water, shelter and an education for their children.
In the lofty surrounds of Sydney's newest creative hub, Art Est., the night will feature performances by internationally renowned soprano Lisa Harper-Brown and one of Australia’s best countertenor’s, London-based Christopher Fields, with Patrick Franklyn on piano. The program will feature everything from operatic favourites to thrilling jazz. Duets from Verdi’s La Traviata, Berlioz’s Beatice and Benedict, to Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. There will also works by Gershwin, J Raposo and the British comic duo, Flanders and Swann. Lisa and Christopher are currently touring with Opera Australia’s revival of Baz Luhrmann’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Fine wines and gourmet food prepared by ex-Billy Kwong chef O Tama Carey will add magic to the evening. Art Est. will host exhibition of works by Australian artists Sophie Gralton and archbolid finalist, Kerrie Lester. You will have an opportunity to meet the performers, and experience the music close up.
Come along and enjoy this night of music, art and magic - and help end the poverty cycle.
