3 DAYS TO PARKLIFE PERTH

September 23rd 2010 23:10
THE COUNTDOWN IS ON...
3 DAYS TO PARKLIFE PERTH!

Only three days to go until the 10th Anniversary of Parklife launches in Perth (Wellington Square) with a phenomenal birthday line-up! Those eager to celebrate the start of the summer party season can get last-minute tickets from www.parklife.com.au .

Not just more big acts in total, but some moments Parklife hasn’t seen the likes of, the Festival will feature unique sets fans will be buzzing about all Summer long. Bloc Party lead singer Kele’s smash solo album brings him and his band to Parklife to dazzle us with new tracks, plus the best Bloc Party classics live. Legendary US indie heroes The Dandy Warhols, responsible for some of the catchiest lyrics in modern rock and stars of the cult doco DIG! are joining the Parklife posse and six-time Grammy winner Missy Elliott with a 27-strong all dancing entourage and a brand new album.

Parklife always brings a bunch of hot fresh artists not seen by the Australian public before, and this year is no exception. Darwin Deez, Dan Black, Chiddy Bang, Memory Tapes, Delorean, The Glitch Mob, Wolf Gang and a bunch more are headed this way for the first time.

Groove Armada will also play their freshly announced last-ever live show, which has taken a whole new dark direction with music from their latest album Black Light.

Cut Copy will be playing their first Australian show in almost two years at Parklife, having just completed their rumoured-to-be-best-yet third album, whilst Groove Armada will perform their last. Fresh from collaborating with Pharell on her latest album release ‘Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans’, Uffie has a new live show that’ll pop your glocks off! Midnight Juggernauts circle past Saturn and head back to Earth via Parklife with a new live show featuring album number two of dizzying kaleidoscopic pop, ‘The Crystal Axis’. While we’re still working out whether we should really dance around to The Wombats drily comic ‘Lets dance to Joy Division’; the band are holed up in the studio putting the finishing touches to their brand new album. Fuzzy faves Soulwax return to the Parklife fold with a new live show and material that will no doubt reconfirm why they have played over 120 live shows and festivals worldwide, and Holy Ghost! will play their first live shows in Australia.

The first major Australian summer music festival and the biggest outdoor festival for lovers of electronic indie music Parklife attracts crowds of 140,000 nationally, showcasing the world’s most relevant artists playing in some of Australia’s most picturesque city parklands – Brisbane (Botanic Gardens and Riverstage, Sat 25 Sept), Perth (Wellington Square, Sun 26 Sept), Melbourne (The Sidney Myer Music Bowl & King’s Domain, Sat 2 Oct), Sydney (Moore Park, Sun 3 Oct) and Adelaide (Botanic Gardens, Mon 4 Oct).

Fuzzy Co-Founder John Wall is excited about the future direction of Parklife. “We have more bands than ever before taking the stage this year, with a really cool indie vibe. We know these guys are going to be on everyone’s lips and stereos by the time summer rolls round. For example, Missy hasn’t been to OZ since 2004. With her new album Block Party due out the same time she tours OZ for Parklife, we know she is going to be putting on an incredibly hot show. Kele, the lead-singer and guitarist of Bloc Party, is on a solo mission and will be debuting tracks of his new album The Boxer for his first time in Australia. The Dandy’s sold out their last tour in Australia and are going to be a special treat for Parklifers with their signature psychedelic sound.”

Ming Gan, the other half of Fuzzy’s founders, charged with booking the line-up agrees. “It’s just so encompassing this year. We have our first Spanish band Delorean – a foursome who have literally just released their new album Subiza and are coming down-under for the first time; Berlin based Jesse Rose, credited with starting the fidget house movement, is coming back to Parklife... and hopefully won’t steal any more golf carts - Brissy you know what we’re talking about! We’ve got Dan Black coming to Australia for the first time – he’s been causing a big stir on the radio and internet and climbing the charts with his track Symphonies featuring Kid Kudi. We’ve also got Chiddy Bang who have been featuring massively on the ARIA Charts and will be playing their first live shows in Oz at Parklife. Not to mention ultimate party-starters 2manydjs!”

“Plus Aussie faves Midnight Juggernauts will be hitting the stage with an awesome new album, plus Cut Copy will be debuting their new live show and material – it’ll be the first time they’ve performed in close to two years! There are acts we know will be massive by spring, like the addictive Darwin Deez, not to mention the dream team Yolanda Be Cool and DCUP with 3 million hits on youtube... I could go on and on, four months seems too long to wait.”

Adelle Robinson, Fuzzy’s GM says “this year we’ve really proved Parklife is Australia’s unparalleled electronic/indie music festival, jam-packed with artists who completely define the moment in music. Parklife makes the most of beautiful outdoor venues, in five cities, where music lovers can step into a spectacle in which the surroundings are idyllic, the music is great and the world is their oyster. Parklife is not just another festival: Parklife is the sound of next summer,” she says.

The Temper Trap 2010 TOUR

May 7th 2010 14:22
THE TEMPER TRAP
DEBUT ALBUM CONDITIONS REACHES PLATINUM!

Whilst it may come as no surprise to the Australian music loving public, it is with great pride and delight that The Temper Trap announce their debut album Conditions as having achieved platinum sales in Australia.

The widely acclaimed album spawned multiple hit singles, including Platinum single ‘Sweet Disposition’ and ‘Love Lost’ - both of which are currently in the ARIA Top 40. It debuted at Number 9 in the ARIA Top 50 Albums chart and is still currently in the Top 20 after forty five weeks on the chart.

The Temper Trap recently performed at the illustrious Coachella music festival in California, drawing a massive crowd and captivating the audience with ease and charm.

The band has also been confirmed to play at additional U.S. festival heavyweights Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, U.K. based Glastonbury and our very own Splendour in the Grass and are currently on tour across Europe and North America. Their recent and upcoming tour dates are all testament to their rapidly growing reputation as mesmerising live performers.

This July sees them returning to our shores for a tour of Australia & New Zealand and local fans and critics can’t hardly wait.

Often called 'The Ones to Watch,' Welsh three piece band The Joy Formidable are bringing their dreamy sound to The Temper Trap's Australian tour along with AMP Red Bull Award winners Oh Mercy. The Auckland performance will be opened by New Zealand natives The Naked and Famous.

The Temper Trap's Perth, Melbourne and Sydney shows have sold out and whilst tickets to their Adelaide and Auckland performances are still available now, these shows are sure to follow suit.

March 29 2010
THE TEMPER TRAP
RETURN TO AUSTRALIA & NZ FOR JULY 2010 HEADLINE TOUR

At the start of this year The Temper Trap gave Australian and New Zealand audiences a taste of why they were one of the most talked about bands in the world last year with standout performances across a series of summer festivals. Fans clamoured for more and the band paid attention, making room in a hectic worldwide tour for July 2010 dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Auckland.

2010 is already shaping up to be a busy one, with The Temper Trap currently on tour across America. Conditions is sitting at #4 on the Billboard Heatseeker chart, while some of the biggest radio stations in the USA have set Sweet Disposition to high rotation. The buzz around the band is audible with a sold out six week US tour and appearances at SXSW, Coachella and Bonnaroo sure to earn the band even more supporters. Notably US music industry bible Billboard Magazine profiled the band in a double page ‘Happening Now’ feature in their February 20 issue, noting “The Temper Trap are shaping up to be the next big thing from Down Under.”

The UK story also continues to grow from their Top Ten hit with Sweet Disposition last year, with the band selling over 33,000 tickets to their UK tour, including an impressive three nights at Shepherds Bush Empire. The band are also headlining the Wireless Festival, as well as performing at T In The Park and Roskilde festivals.

Worldwide sales of Sweet Disposition have now exceeded 500,000, while album sales for Conditions have tipped over the 300,000 mark.

If The Temper Trap’s festival performances were mass sing-a-longs, then these July shows are set to take The Temper Trap to a whole new level with four acclaimed singles now under the band’s belts. Soaring Platinum hit Sweet Disposition, rocking tracks Science of Fear and Fader and the latest anthemic offering Love Lost are sure crowd favourites, while album Conditions has become a staple on iPods and radios across both countries.

With their album fast approaching Platinum sales in Australia there’s little doubt that The Temper Trap have won the hearts of music fans. Significantly though, the band have delivered more than just a standout debut album, with music critics praising the quality and energy of the band’s live performances.

“The Temper Trap execute their set perfectly…” J Mag, Australia, Feb 2010

““Sweet Disposition”…had the crowd swaying in unison and singing along” Undertherader.co.nz, New Zealand, Jan 15, 2010

“When the band broke into their signature hit Sweet Disposition the sardined mass roared and jumped up and down despite the searing heat.” Daily Telegraph, Sydney, Jan 23, 2010
“Album stand-outs Fader, Love Lost, Down River, Science of Fear and Sweet Disposition were all monster singalongs.” The Age, Melbourne, Jan 08, 2010

“The Temper Trap kicked off the day with a bang…[the band] have the energy and skill of bands with twice the stage experience.” 3 News, New Zealand, Jan 15, 2010

“Every year one band is too popular for the stage they’re on. This year it was Melbourne’s The Temper Trap…the reaction to British Top 10 hit Sweet Disposition was one of the first moments of the day, but most tracks from their debut album Conditions were singalongs including the stunning Love Lost.” Herald Sun, Melbourne, Jan 27, 2010

There’s little doubt that The Temper Trap’s upcoming July concerts are going to be must-sees on the 2010 concert calendar. Tickets for Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Auckland go on sale on Monday 29 March at 9am local time.

Pre-sale tickets will be available via frontiertouring.com from noon AEDT Thursday 25 March to noon AEDT Friday 26 March.

Tame Impala | May Tour

March 29th 2010 02:45
TAME IMPALA
INNERSPEAKER

DEBUT ALBUM OUT MAY 21 & NATIONAL TOUR

Modular announces that West Coast sonic wanderers Tame Impala will unveil their debut album InnerSpeaker on May 21, and are taking to the road in May for a National Tour.

It will be the first time much of the record is played live to an unsuspecting public and will showcase the gloriously dazzling results of one of planet earth’s most exciting bands absolutely going to town on their debut long player.

Following on from their debut, self-titled EP, InnerSpeaker is Tame Impala's chance to paint a far more extensive picture than before, and sure enough it redrafts the entire Tame Impala world as we knew it, into an explosive cosmic wonderland of ecstatic harmony and perfectly accessible journeys into inner space.

Recorded and produced by the band's own Kevin Parker with Death In Vegas’s Tim Holmes on the engineer duties, in an enormous mansion with 180 degree views of the Indian Ocean in the middle of buttfuck nowhere a few hours south of Perth, InnerSpeaker is ensconced with a kind of inspired vastness not dislike the place it was made.

It was then mixed in a completely different kind of nowhere, a log cabin surrounded by snow and deer in upstate New York, by renowned sonic maverick Dave Fridmann (MGMT / Flaming Lips).

Click HERE for your first glimpse inside the debut album, where magic and music abounds. with plenty more where that came from.

The resultant record will first be revealed with the single, Solitude Is Bliss, a joyous summertime romp through fields of honeyed harmony and crispy good times and is just the very tip of the amorphous cosmos that is InnerSpeaker.

InnerSpeaker is available for pre-order now from the Modular Shop (for local & international orders) and from Get Music in digital & physical formats (for Australians only).

Or as a special offer to live show fans, you will have an opportunity to pre-order the album with tickets purchased to the May National Tour.

Be the first to hear InnerSpeaker live at the dates below….

BATRIDER are back!

March 28th 2010 07:50
Batrider are back in Australia following 2 years of gigs, new friends, wild times and happy accidents in foreign lands. After splitting time between London sublets and European adventures, and losing their USA touring virginity the equivalent of behind a bush at a party when you’re 16, Batrider have now decided to settle in... Adelaide. YES ADELAIDE! And with barely enough time to wash the lint-of-a-thousand-couches from their tired bodies, Batrider are hitting the road again embarking on their first Australian tour in years.

The Batrider Beaks Tour takes the band’s fourth release Why We Cant Be Together (2009) around their adopted home of Australia, and also sees the release of a limited run of live recordings made while in the USA.

The new live record reflects the band’s current 3-piece incarnation and is the most direct, dynamic, melodic, and unique to date. Those familiar with Batrider’s sound will find its most compelling qualities more than intact, with the guitar and vocals of Sarah Mary Chadwick marking themselves as more clamourous and emotive than ever, with Steph Crase (Birth Glow, No Through Road) on drums and summery melancholic harmonies, and Sam Featherstone holding the whole mess together on bass.

Nonetheless, it wouldn’t really be fair to let you assume that Batrider aren’t still really really loud, and quite possibly one of the most viscerally confronting bands you’ll ever experience live. Would it?

2010 is another big year for Batrider with a new release to add to their now extensive back catalogue, reconnecting with both Australian and New Zealand watering holes, not to
mention enjoying the plethora of exciting tourist locations Adelaide has to offer. Wink.

Watch and Listen to John Cale's Keynote Online

On February 15 underground rock royalty and founding member of the Velvet Underground, John Cale, cut the red ribbon for Modular and Sydney Festival's Circa 1979: Signal to Noise with a Keynote speech at the Seymour Centre.

Hipsters rubbed shoulders with electronic pioneers in a packed out York Theatre as Cale showed off a few snaps and described working with the likes of Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Happy Mondays, The Stooges and LCD Soundsystem before capping things off with a mind blowing rendition of "Heart Break Hotel."

If you missed the speech or want to listen/watch it again, ABC's Big Ideas are streaming it online.

ART vs SCIENCE go GOLD

February 18th 2010 08:10
Fresh from loping in at #2 and #74 on triple j's Hottest 100, Sydney's ART vs SCIENCE have recently achieved Gold status in the ARIA Charts for their the eponymous debut EP (out through Green/MGM). The Hottest 100 result also effected the re-entry of the EP into the Top 5 on iTunes and back into the ARIA Top 40. It is currently sitting at no. 1 on the physical singles chart.

Falls Lorne 2009

Released last May, the independently-released 5-track EP contains radio favourites Parlez-Vous Francais?, Hollywood, Flippers and Friend in the Field. Its performance in the charts was no doubt augmented by the three piece's scene-stealing live show, which has seen the band play at countless festivals and sold-out gigs around the country over the past 12 months.

ART vs SCIENCE have again teamed up with producer/engineer Berkfinger and are currently in the studio writing and recording their anticipated debut long-player. The album - to be released independently through Green/MGM, with label services assistance from Parallel Management - is due out in June 2010. Keep an ear out for the first single in April.

In one of the most exciting collaborations to grace the stage in years, Canadian turntable masters Kid Koala and Dynomite D team up with former Wolfmother crew Chris Ross and Myles Heskett to create a psych/heavy-rock-drenched project The Slew.

The Slew’s album ‘100%’ is out now through Ninja Tune/Inertia.

Kid Koala proudly presents The Slew Live featuring a hefty six turntables with Chris and Myles from Wolfmother on bass and drums. Hitting up major capital cities across Australia in May, it’s rock turntablism like you’ve never seen it before.

Four and a half years ago, Eric San (aka Kid Koala) and Dylan J. Frombach (aka Dynomite D) started working on a rock record. The pair, who met on the Beastie Boys tour in 1998, had been approached to soundtrack a documentary feature film. The film was eventually abandoned, but with Mario Caldato (longtime producer for Beastie Boys) on board for mixing, San and Frombach were already deep into the psych rock-influenced score and there was no turning back.

Teaming up with Chris Ross and Myles Heskett – the former rhythm section of Grammy Award-winning band Wolfmother – The Slew set out to put together a full-blown rock band experience to do justice to the material in a live setting. And justice was served: The truly excessive six turntables, drum, bass, keyboard and wall of amps that made their way across North America this October made for a full-on raw, pummeling rock experience. The Slew bring attitude back to the turntable unlike anything you’ve ever heard.
