Catcall joins Ivy League

January 27th 2010 11:36
CATCALL JOINS THE IVY LEAGUE

Ivy League is very excited to announce their latest signing is Catcall.

Catcall’s sound omits whiffs of early Kate Bush, Grace Jones and Tom Tom Club but also stands next to contemporaries such as Santigold, The Knife and disco queen Glass Candy; her original style shows off a strong character, with beats and quirky melodies that quickly sublet their way into your brain.

23-year old Catherine Kelleher cut her musical teeth as a teenager in DIY punk group Kiosk; a band famed for their polarizing and bratty no-wave noise sound but eventually discovered their pop sensibility within the aggression and urgency of punk rock. Catherine Kelleher created Catcall as a project in 2007 where she could further develop her penchant for pop within the realms of beats and synthesizers.

Releasing her “Anniversary” EP in 2008 on her own label, to much critical acclaim, Catcall is an artist that continues to grow and develop, with an aim to produce fresh dance pop music, injected with honesty and passion and stamped with her own personality and style from start to finish.

Having spent the early stages of her career performing at club shows and supporting tours with the likes of The Gossip, she recently expanded her show; unveiling a slightly new direction since her EP as well as a new full band. The new set up landed her main support for Phoenix in November 2009, closely followed by La Roux. Since then she has quickly been scooped up by the festival circuit and has performed knockout sets at Parklife, Homebake Falls and Big Day Out festivals.

LIVE REVIEWS

MESS AND NOISE: @ HOMEBAKE
‘‘Catcall's voice has an amazing strength to it that carries well live, and the band provided more of a rock sound to her usual electro-hip-pop. Can't wait for the album’’

FASTERLOUDER: @ THE PALACE W/ LA ROUX
‘‘Their set drew on the same retro-electro influences as the night’s headliner, but was delivered with far more stage presence and charisma’’

DRUM MEDIA @ BAR BROADWAY
‘‘Catcall… manages to create something entirely her own, that is both rough and refined and, above all, super fun. Catcall = future cultural leader? Forget the future; she's setting the pace as we speak’’
