Streisand Live in Concert 2006
There’s something incredibly exciting about a live album, especially when it has all the pomp and circumstance of an overture and two acts in the tradition of a Broadway musical. Some singers are so closely associated with material they’ve performed over their career you can’t help but hear the music and know you’re about to hear them sing. This is the way it works with Barbra Streisand. From the moment you hear the Funny Girl Overture on this album you just know there’s going to be a big Streisand moment coming up, and rest assured there is.
This two disk set, ‘Streisand Live in Concert 2006’ has plenty of them. She hasn’t sung several of these songs in years, but the big brassy voice still holds, and where she needs a little support she has it with her ‘special guest’ Il Divo.
Standout tracks on disk one include ‘Evergreen’ (with Il Divo), ‘My Man’, and ‘Down With Love’, on disk two everything stands out. It’s hilarious to hear Streisand call Il Divo “Swell” after they’ve joined in on ‘The Music of the night’. Love her or hate her she certainly knows how to put a great show on. Very swell.
