ASH doing 1977

July 10th 2013 21:36

Metropolis Touring and Select Touring Present

ASH

ADD MORE DATES TO AUSTRALIAN TOUR

*** Performing "1977" in its entirety! ***

Due to overwhelming demand, Irish punk pop trio Ash, have just announced more dates to their upcoming Australian tour. A second and definitely final Melbourne show has been added at the Corner Hotel after selling out the first date in 10 days!!!

As well due to overwhelming fan demand shows in Adelaide and Perth have been added, their first since 2001!

Venturing back to Australia with a blast from their past’s past, Ash will perform their iconic debut album, 1977, in its entirety along with a second set of greatest hits and b-sides. Released in 1996, the album’s title is a nod to the era in which the band members were born and the year Star Wars arrived in cinemas.

Although 1977 has sold over 2 million copies worldwide and is included in the book 1001 Albums Yoy Must Hear Before You Die, it was written, recorded and released when most of the band were just 19. 1977 is a cinematic punk-pop soundtrack to binge drinking, chasing girls, youth and frustrated pubescent idealism moulding elements of power pop, glam rock, post-grunge and britpop into a loud, melodic and exuberant sound. The album tapped into the hearts, minds and hormones of a generation of like-minded teens who lapped up the five hit singles from the record, “Kung Fu”, “Girl From Mars”, “Angel Interceptor”, “Gold finger” and “Oh Yeah” - each of them charting in the Top 20 and earning Ash a reputation as the ultimate singles band. Reflecting on the record, Kerrang remarked "'1977' beamed with boisterous world-beating confidence and frighteningly precocious songwriting. Hit after honey-topped hit drip from the stereo, full of bombastic, brash choruses that still sound as tasty today as ever."

Ash previously performed 1977 in its entirety at the London Roundhouse in 2008, the show sold out in record time, leading to a second show being added to the famous, London Astoria, a venue the band held a five-night residency at when 1977 was first released. A review of the Roundhouse show in The Guardian observed “Still supple and mad for it, singer Tim Wheeler asked: "Do you feel like you've changed much since 1996? Because I don't." He hadn't played some of these songs in a decade, he added. That was hard to believe… After such a joyous visit to the past, nothing more was necessary, but we got it anyway: they encored with a dozen random tracks, from ancient B-sides to Motown covers. It was rather too much of a good thing, but who could have begrudged them?”

2013 will be Australia’s first chance to hear 1977 performed in its entirety. It’ll be a chance for punters to re-live alcopop soaked youths during a time when Britpop ruled the airwaves and 1977’s Star Wars was about to be re-released. Oh Yeah!

Mr Bradley McCaw

June 5th 2013 22:10
Award winning performer/composer/playwright
Bradley McCaw (BM) releases new EP,

Highlights from CABARET: The Complete
Unauthorised Biography

His name is Bradley McCaw.

McCaw is a performer/composer/playwright who recently won the 2012 Australian Cabaret Showcase and is about to embark on an International tour, which will include shows at the New York Musical Theatre Festival and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival (8 - 9 June) which includes a performance at the 40th Anniversary Gala Event (6 - 7 June).

Featuring five of the nine original songs from the show that won the 2012 Australian Cabaret Showcase, the EP demonstrates BM's depth and versatility as a composer and performer.

Bradley McCaw

The recording kicks off with the optimistic Ukulele tune All I Need is You before bursting into the vaudevillian Hard to Keep A Good Girl Down. Track three, No Feelings Today, is a tender and heartfelt acoustic guitar version of the song written for the 2010 musical "Becoming Bill" (music/lyrics/book By BM).

Surprisingly next is a pop tune, "Baby I'm-a-Wantin You" showcasing BM's ability to sing and write for contemporary pop music. The EP closes with 'Le Chat Noir' a story song about the birth of the Black Cat Cabaret in Paris, France (1881).

Bradley embarks on a International tour this week taking his new show to Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Noosa Long Weekend Festival, Melbourne Cabaret Festival, Ballarat Cabaret Festival and the New York Musical Theatre Festival.

Although how these songs fit into the story of the show remains a mystery, each exists in it's own world and as a collection, do great justice to the hope and work that is soon to come from this emerging performer/composer.

THE LOVE JUNKIES

May 22nd 2013 23:35
THE LOVE JUNKIES
MAYBELENE

The Love Junkies aren’t angry youth looking to rebel against society. They aren’t conservatorium virtuosos trying to push the boundaries of musical experimentation. They aren’t aiming at stadiums, but if they got there that’d be cool.

They were just a bunch of mates from Perth playing rock n roll, having a few beers, keeping an ear to the ground for a good party and writing some great tunes.

But then in late 2012, triple j found their screaming party anthem Oxymoron on Unearthed. And then NME stumbled across their tunes, listing them in the top five Australian bands to watch in 2013.

The global music bible set things into top gear with invitations starting to flow including securing slots at Southbound, Perth Big Day Out and Groovin’ the Moo. The band also turned the heads of British India, supporting their recent national tour on what was

The Love Junkies’ first trip east, wowing crowds and gaining a slew of new fans. Delivering on that early promise, The Love Junkies are ready to unveil their debut long-play Maybelene.

A quickfire collection of tracks channelling everyone from Mudhoney and The Pixies to Roland S Howard and Blur,

Maybelene manages to capture the exact excitement and raw energy of their live show in what is a pure rock record.

Recorded in the band’s home town of Perth WA by Japan-based Canadian producer Alan Brey, the album featuring their breakthrough single Oxymoron as well as the title track Maybelene and live favourite Black Sheep Blues.

The Love Junkies are supporting the new album with their first headline tour around Australia this June, followed by extensive WA dates with Grinspoon.

Funeral For a Friend Tour

May 1st 2013 07:10
FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND
ANNOUNCE OPENERS FOR THEIR MAY NATIONAL TOUR
TOUR STARTS NEXT WEEK!

Opening acts have been let out of the barrel for the fast-approaching Funeral For a Friend Tour. With Sydney hardcore stalwarts RELENTLESS first out the main support slot already, a barrage of bourgeoning local heavy talent has been announced on all shows.

They’ll warm stages before Funeral For A Friend descend on crowds to remind audiences why they’re one of the most enduring entities of post-hardcore. The support list is impressive; including Brisbane high-energy punk rock upstarts DOLLAROSA, Sydney's raw and epic PERSPECTIVES, and up and coming post-hardcore kids ArmourUs for Melbourne.

Funeral for a Friend

Over the course of a decade, Funeral For A Friend have remained one of the most fascinating bands to come out of the UK. Their debut album Casually Dressed & Deep In Conversation has long been upheld as a landmark punk album of the 2000s but it by no means bred a sense of self-satisfaction for the ambitious Welshmen. The five-piece's musical evolution has been heavily documented and it has seen them arrive at the most confident, kickass juncture of their career in 2013.

Having spent almost the entirety of 2012 recording their new album, Funeral For A Friend return to Australia, refreshed and reinvigorated.

Their seventh studio album Conduit (out now) serves as the perfect precursor to this massive Australian tour. No strangers to our shores, Funeral For A Friend have amassed an increasingly large fan base with each of their Australian tours, each time cementing a more a fiery and lasting impression. This outing boasts ten shows through five states, making this Funeral For a Friend's most extensive Aussie visit to date.

Tickets on sale now, and with dates commencing next week, best get yours STAT.

Funeral For A Friend's new album Conduit out now on Roadrunner Records.

RUSSIAN NATIONAL BALLET THEATRE

April 29th 2013 09:14
XDR (Australia) Cultural Promotion presents
RUSSIAN NATIONAL BALLET THEATRE
Swan Lake
The Nutcracker

Australian National Tour
September - November 2013

Returning to Australia to perform two of the most memorable and enchanting classical ballets

The Russian National Ballet Theatre returns for a tour of full-length classical performances of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker in over 20 cities across Australia from September.

With more than 50 ballet dancers, the Russian National Ballet Theatre has toured the USA, China, Italy, France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Guatemala, Poland, South Korea and Japan transforming Russian Ballet.

Tchaikovsky's instantly recognisable music set against the wonderfully dark story of good against evil; Swan Lake is one of the most famous and loved of all ballets. This production by Evgeny Amosov, Artistic Director of The Russian National Ballet Theatre, is heralded around the world.

Swan Lake's glamorous set is evocative of the Russian Imperial world in which the ballet was created, while the haunting moonlit lakeside is perfect for the tragic conflict of the human and spirit worlds and allows the audience to be swept away in the vulnerability of Odette/ Odile.

One of the most extravagant theatrical events of all time, the original St Petersburg staging of The Nutcracker in 1890 was a remarkable illustration of the Russian Imperial style at its peak. It is known as one of the superior Russian National Ballet Theatre productions in the modern era. Joined by a huge cast in a fairytale setting, the, current staging is also directed by Evgeny Amosov and accompanied by a glorious Tchaikovsky score. This version of The Nutcracker has all the elements of an enduring fairy tale: adventure, fantasy, good versus evil, and of course, love.

The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded with support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The basis for the creation of the theatre was the necessity of promising young theatre with high creative potential, both classical and contemporary. The theatre's repertoire includes not only classical performances such as Sleeping Beauty, Scotland Suite, Don Quixote and Gala Concert, but also modern ballets set to the music of Mozart, Bach, Ravel and others.

Artistic Director Evgeny Amosov, graduated from the Perm Academy of choreography and then joined the Ekaterinburg Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet as a principal dancer. He is also a prize-winner of Russian and International choreography contests of ballet-masters and ballet dancers. In 1988 Amosov was awarded the title Honored artist of Russia and in 1990 was the leading solo dancer of the state theatre Russian ballet. From 1993 till 1998 he studied at the Russian Academy of theatrical arts. In 2001 Amosov co-founded the company Russian National Ballet Theatre.

The Russian National Ballet Theatre is a cut above many of its rivals.
- Washington Post

Their gracefulness, perfect edges and lines demonstrate why the ballet, like opera, is such a powerful art form. You can feel the emotion in your seat without anyone saying a word that you can understand.

TIM MOORE
Singer. Songwriter. Poet.

Here's what Tim Morre has been up to since releasing his EP last year "I've had a forced break from music towards the end of last year after a frustrating trademark issue involving a Tim Moore from the US threatening to sue me for producing music under my birth name; crazy i know!".

With this finally sorted Moore is building momentum again, shooting some videos and supporting for the likes of Passenger.

Moore will be on tour with Stu Larsen and Natsuki Kurai kicking it off in Adelaide on April 18 at the Promethean, he also has some shows in early May. A regular protagonist at intimate and moving shows in Adelaide's vibrant nu-folk scene, Tim is a gifted storyteller with a voice of untempered honesty.

He has collaborated with the likes of Stu Larsen (QLD), Joshua Spier (SA), Cookie Baker (VIC), Natsuki Kurai (JPN) and been involved with stack of local and interstate projects.

He brings his wide experience to bear on the first release of his solo project. Recorded on a shoestring in a small studio in the Adelaide Hills, Fading Fires weaves together six stories about deep breaths, wide open skies and the end of the world.

"Very occasionally you come across a songwriter who stops you in your tracks and forces you to listen. This is the hidden treasure we're all searching for as songwriters and Tim Moore has it in spades." - Tim Hart, Boy & Bear

"What a treat it is to find a folk musician who can be subtle in his methods yet sharp in insight and powerful in impact!" - Anthony Vawser, MusicSA
