PARADES

'Foreign Tapes' out Fri 23 April
Touring nationally June-July

Album Of The Week - FBi
Album Of The Week RTR

"These guys are fantastic. Simple as that." Richard Kingsmill, Triple J

“Instrumental crescendos and decrescendos against a backdrop of rolling drum lines, sweet male/ female vocal juxtapositions and other musical ebbs and flows” Time Off

"Auditory heaven. Think the ridiculously beautiful music of Sigur Rós but with electro, piano and rock elements… a masterpiece." Music Feeds

"Bold, startling, awe-inspiring and genuinely heartfelt…You could say they sound like Radiohead, Pink Floyd but really, they sound like nothing else around" The Dwarf

"Understated beauty” FasterLouder

Parades are a young art rock band from Sydney who wisely choose to create their own music with no outside input or interference. Featuring Dan Cunningham, Tim Jenkins, Michael Scarpin and Jonathan Boulet – Parades’ debut album Foreign Tapes is released this Friday 23rd April.

The album is expansive and ambitious; a haze of pop harmonies, post rock guitars and electronic meanderings. Drum Media did a great job describing the band when they said:

"Parades create their homely tunes in a garage in Sydney's Northwest, but it might as well be Iceland or the moon. They have an ethereal, expansive sound that is sweet and understated”

Parades are taking on their new album Foreign Tapes on the road in their biggest tour yet, over 10 dates across four states.

Supporting them in Ballarat, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Wollongong will be special guests Belles Will Ring, who are back with a new single Come To The Village, the first track from their second album due out in Spring 2010.

BAILEY & KUEPPER

April 7th 2010 01:12
BAILEY & KUEPPER

Bailey & Kuepper - two names that are synonymous with quality music of antipodean origins.

Both gentlemen being of course two of the founding members of the Brisbane band that lit the fuse of what exploded into Punk; The Saints.

Highly successful recording artists both as solo artists and as leaders of bands, each with a vast back catalogue of solo and group recordings, humongous if combined.

Chris Bailey has continued recording and touring all over the world for the last two and half decades both as a solo artist and with the Saints. In addition he is the lead singer in the General Dog, has been a special guest on many a recording and has lent his skills as a producer to other artists.

Ed Kuepper also has a much lauded history as a solo artist and with his bands; Laughing Clowns and The Aints. He has worked as a producer with other artists as well as composing several soundtracks. Kuepper joined Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds in 2009 and continues to tour and record with his current backing band the Kowalski Collective.

Australian audiences last saw both gentlemen reunited upon the stage as ‘The Saints’ for the ‘All Tomorrow’s Parties’ Festival early 2009.

We are happy to announce Messrs Bailey & Kuepper are planning a Grand Tour of musical soirees together. They will be performing not only a selection from their collaborative works, but will also draw from their respective solo recordings.

Prior to setting off on the road, this selection of songs will be stripped back, reworked and recorded for release as an acoustic offering via the infamous and esteemed Liberation Blue label.

Ladies and gentlemen: we are thrilled to confirm that Bailey & Kuepper will present their music soirees on the same day each week, at the same venue, thrice during the month of May in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Tickets for all Bailey & Kuepper shows will be on sale Monday April 12th, 2010. Book now to avoid disappointment.

John Cale's Keynote Online

February 18th 2010 09:14

Watch and Listen to John Cale's Keynote Online

On February 15 underground rock royalty and founding member of the Velvet Underground, John Cale, cut the red ribbon for Modular and Sydney Festival's Circa 1979: Signal to Noise with a Keynote speech at the Seymour Centre.

Hipsters rubbed shoulders with electronic pioneers in a packed out York Theatre as Cale showed off a few snaps and described working with the likes of Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Happy Mondays, The Stooges and LCD Soundsystem before capping things off with a mind blowing rendition of "Heart Break Hotel."

If you missed the speech or want to listen/watch it again, ABC's Big Ideas are streaming it online.

ART vs SCIENCE go GOLD

February 18th 2010 08:10
Fresh from loping in at #2 and #74 on triple j's Hottest 100, Sydney's ART vs SCIENCE have recently achieved Gold status in the ARIA Charts for their the eponymous debut EP (out through Green/MGM). The Hottest 100 result also effected the re-entry of the EP into the Top 5 on iTunes and back into the ARIA Top 40. It is currently sitting at no. 1 on the physical singles chart.

Falls Lorne 2009

Released last May, the independently-released 5-track EP contains radio favourites Parlez-Vous Francais?, Hollywood, Flippers and Friend in the Field. Its performance in the charts was no doubt augmented by the three piece's scene-stealing live show, which has seen the band play at countless festivals and sold-out gigs around the country over the past 12 months.

ART vs SCIENCE have again teamed up with producer/engineer Berkfinger and are currently in the studio writing and recording their anticipated debut long-player. The album - to be released independently through Green/MGM, with label services assistance from Parallel Management - is due out in June 2010. Keep an ear out for the first single in April.

SPOON Groovin’ The Moo

February 7th 2010 13:19
SPOON - GROOVIN' THE MOO

Last here in 2008 for a tour that included appearances at all six Big Days Out, as surprise guest to the Arcade Fire and for their own headline shows, Texan minimalists SPOON return this Autumn having signed up to perform nationally for the GROOVIN' THE MOO experience and for a selection of major city headline shows.

SPOON

The 2010 tour coincides with the release of a brand new album TRANSFERENCE, the follow-up to 2007's much heralded US Top Ten hit GA, GA, GA, GA, GA. Unlike its predecessor though (arguably the band's most polished statement to date) TRANSFERENCE is a stark reminder of the proverb "less is more" and a nod perhaps to the bare bones production style of the band that inspired the Spoon name: krautrock pioneers, Can.

On Transference, it's quality not quantity of melody that sticks: each song is spinal, gutsy, emotional and different. Here Spoon drops the polish to give us rough, ready and human rock. - DRUM MEDIA (Album of the Week)

What a joy it is that bands like Spoon exist. Easily one of the most consistent bands of the last decade-plus, they have become almost synonymous with their indie-cool swagger and their calculated and nuanced approach to making records - Absolutepunk.com

While Transference is remarkable in its own right, song for song it stands tall alongside the best of the band's entire catalog. - UNDER THE RADAR

Live too, SPOON are trimmed of any excess and deliver a show based on precision, passion and skill. You'll hear no unnecessary guitar or drum solos at a SPOON concert.

Tickets for GROOVIN' THE MOO and all headline shows are on-sale February 16th.

The Slew

February 3rd 2010 14:31
In one of the most exciting collaborations to grace the stage in years, Canadian turntable masters Kid Koala and Dynomite D team up with former Wolfmother crew Chris Ross and Myles Heskett to create a psych/heavy-rock-drenched project The Slew.

The Slew’s album ‘100%’ is out now through Ninja Tune/Inertia.

Kid Koala proudly presents The Slew Live featuring a hefty six turntables with Chris and Myles from Wolfmother on bass and drums. Hitting up major capital cities across Australia in May, it’s rock turntablism like you’ve never seen it before.

Four and a half years ago, Eric San (aka Kid Koala) and Dylan J. Frombach (aka Dynomite D) started working on a rock record. The pair, who met on the Beastie Boys tour in 1998, had been approached to soundtrack a documentary feature film. The film was eventually abandoned, but with Mario Caldato (longtime producer for Beastie Boys) on board for mixing, San and Frombach were already deep into the psych rock-influenced score and there was no turning back.

Teaming up with Chris Ross and Myles Heskett – the former rhythm section of Grammy Award-winning band Wolfmother – The Slew set out to put together a full-blown rock band experience to do justice to the material in a live setting. And justice was served: The truly excessive six turntables, drum, bass, keyboard and wall of amps that made their way across North America this October made for a full-on raw, pummeling rock experience. The Slew bring attitude back to the turntable unlike anything you’ve ever heard.
