Mr Bradley McCaw

June 5th 2013 22:10
Award winning performer/composer/playwright
Bradley McCaw (BM) releases new EP,

Highlights from CABARET: The Complete
Unauthorised Biography

His name is Bradley McCaw.

McCaw is a performer/composer/playwright who recently won the 2012 Australian Cabaret Showcase and is about to embark on an International tour, which will include shows at the New York Musical Theatre Festival and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival (8 - 9 June) which includes a performance at the 40th Anniversary Gala Event (6 - 7 June).

Featuring five of the nine original songs from the show that won the 2012 Australian Cabaret Showcase, the EP demonstrates BM's depth and versatility as a composer and performer.

Bradley McCaw

The recording kicks off with the optimistic Ukulele tune All I Need is You before bursting into the vaudevillian Hard to Keep A Good Girl Down. Track three, No Feelings Today, is a tender and heartfelt acoustic guitar version of the song written for the 2010 musical "Becoming Bill" (music/lyrics/book By BM).

Surprisingly next is a pop tune, "Baby I'm-a-Wantin You" showcasing BM's ability to sing and write for contemporary pop music. The EP closes with 'Le Chat Noir' a story song about the birth of the Black Cat Cabaret in Paris, France (1881).

Bradley embarks on a International tour this week taking his new show to Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Noosa Long Weekend Festival, Melbourne Cabaret Festival, Ballarat Cabaret Festival and the New York Musical Theatre Festival.

Although how these songs fit into the story of the show remains a mystery, each exists in it's own world and as a collection, do great justice to the hope and work that is soon to come from this emerging performer/composer.

Jello Biafra Talks!

May 18th 2013 17:32
What Would Jello Do?

Returning to Australia for his first band shows since 1983, former Dead Kennedy's frontman Jello Biafra has now added a handful of talking shows to his extended schedule.

Entitled What Would Jello Do?, the talking shows follow on from Biafra's you tube series of the same name in commenting on contemporary political issues, democracy, government conspiracy and cover ups, election fraud - the type of banter Jello is notorious for telling and for which he's an excellent orator.

In addition, Jello will also perform a DJ set in Hobart and will also perform in Sydney for Vivid Ideas joining the forward thinking Ruby Speudo and artist Karen Therese in discussion on a subject entitled Build A Movement.

Jello last appeared in talking mode in Australia in 2012. He appeared to packed houses both solo and in Q&A mode for the Melbourne Festival commenting on SLAM and Occupy on a panel that also included The Church's Steve Kilbey and moderator Dave Graney.

Meanwhile, Jello's new music venture The Guantanamo School Of Medicine also tour Australia this May performing the Dead Kennedy's hits of yore as well as material from all three JB&TGSM albums.

Don't miss Jello Biafra live in Australia this May.

"Hot Shoe Shuffle Comes of Age”
The Courier Mail

Hot Shoe Shuffle, the Tap Musical opened at QPAC, Brisbane to rave reviews and a standing ovations last weekend. Hot Shoe Shuffle continues in Brisbane till May 25 before moving to Sydney on July 5 followed by Melbourne on August 9. Opening night showed Brisbane audiences that this is one musical that is not to be missed, and is one that you will want to see again and again.

“We were thrilled to see that we have resonated with an audience of all ages. We couldn’t have asked for a better opening night. It was a great start to the tour, receiving a standing ovation for every performance on our opening weekend and every show since,” said David Atkins.

Before Tap Dogs and The Boy from Oz, Hot Shoe Shuffle paved the way as the first Australian musical to succeed both at home and internationally and is one of the longest running multi-award winning musicals ever to be produced in Australia. Originally conceived, directed and produced by David Atkins OAM in 1992 it was choreographed by both Atkins and the now world-renowned tap choreographer Dein Perry.

Featuring the big band hits of the 1940s, Hot Shoe Shuffle has won numerous awards and been produced in six different countries. It played sell-out seasons in London, where the production won the prestigious Lawrence Olivier Award for Choreography.

It has also won an ARIA Award for its soundtrack album, 4 Mo Awards, 2 Green Room Awards, and an Advance Australia Award for services to the Arts. After its award-winning season on London’s West End, Hot Shoe Shuffle broke box office records on the UK’s regional touring circuit, where it toured for two years.

Whether you saw it in the 90s or have never seen it before, get yourself into the theatre before it is too late and witness this true Australian gem.
The Courier Mail

If you love dynamic, muscular dancing then this is the show for you. A cast of new faces brought enormous energy and continued virtuosity to the art of tap dancing that can only be described as brilliant.
Stage Whispers

The cast were amazing. The subtle nuances that each cast member brought to their character added real value to the production.
Dance Hub

What a crackerjack tap and bounce that was, with its nonstop rhythm and speed.
Absolute Theatre

You really can’t stop yourself from wishing for more.
The Courier Mail

Hot Shoe Shuffle has become a contemporary chapter itself in that impressive history book of dance – Sit still, if you can!
Inside Entertainment

You will find yourself on the edge of the seat tapping right alongside with the cast.

TAYLOR SWIFT in AUS/NZ

May 8th 2013 23:01
TAYLOR SWIFT
TO BRING THE RED TOUR TO AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

SWIFT BECOMES FIRST SOLO FEMALE ARTIST IN 20 YEARS TO HEADLINE STADIUMS ACROSS AUSTRALIA

The Frontier Touring Company are delighted to announce that 7-time GRAMMY winner and international superstar Taylor Swift is heading down under with her blockbuster THE RED TOUR. The talented singer songwriter today confirmed she will be performing stadium shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, as well as an arena date in Auckland, later this year as the first overseas leg of her acclaimed THE RED TOUR.

Taylor Swift

Notably, Taylor Swift will be the first solo female in twenty years to undertake a national stadium tour of Australia, with the last being Madonna’s Girlie Show tour in 1993, also promoted by Frontier Touring.

Promoter Michael Gudinski from The Frontier Touring Company said, "I saw the first stadium show of Taylor’s THE RED TOUR and Australia and New Zealand are in for an absolute treat. Taylor Swift is a superstar globally and has repeatedly sold out multiple arenas in both Australia and New Zealand. She has proven herself to be one of the most significant female artists of our time and it is a natural progression to see her take her touring to the next level here, with the confirmation that she will play four massive stadium shows across Australia this summer. It’s been 20 years since Madonna played stadiums for Frontier and I can honestly think of only a tiny handful of solo artists - male or female - who could fill stadium venues today."

Taylor Swift, currently headlining sold-out stadiums and arenas in North America on her THE RED TOUR, made today's announcement in response to strong fan demand. Australia and New Zealand are the first international markets outside of the USA to be announced for THE RED TOUR.

The 7-time GRAMMY winner’s THE RED TOUR performance features two multi-level stages, elaborate costumes, dancers, aerialists and changing sets. In a concert event that provides non-stop action and state of the art technology, Taylor constantly moves around the venue and uses different stages, giving every audience member a great seat. Taylor plays electric guitar, banjo, piano and acoustic guitar and changes costumes 10 times over the course of the evening. Her set features several songs from her record-breaking RED album, as well as new takes on several other fan favourites.

Taylor Swift’s THE RED TOUR is earning universally high praise from top critics:

Rolling Stone -- “Seeing Taylor Swift live in 2013 is seeing a maestro at the top of her or anyone's game. No other pop auteur can touch her right now for emotional excess or musical reach. Red [is] the slickest, smartest and just plain best mega-pop statement of our time. Seeing Taylor onstage now is seeing....total commitment, total fan fervor, total connection between audience and performer. A true arena-rock goddess at an amazing peak.”

The New York Times -- “A king-size spectacle, [whose] juxtapositions have power, one theatrical scene after the next. Taylor Swift off-script is very much like Taylor Swift on-script: not just the brains of the operation, but the brawn, too, the unflappable force that ensures stuck landings. Ms. Swift’s voice is stronger than it’s ever been, and also sturdier... she sang vividly from behind a piano, show[ing] credible dark emotion."

The Village Voice - "Taylor Swift was born to entertain. Swift remains genuine….which speaks further to her endless appealing nature as a performer."

The Miami Herald – “Genuinely powerful. Swift seems to have made an astute transition to her new identity of self-determined young woman. Swift came across as sincere and open in a way that made her the modest but adored mistress of a girl-power mega church.”

The Atlanta Journal Constitution – “She’s supremely gifted…..For two hours T-Swizzle thoroughly charmed, entertained, and connected with the audience.”

Orlando Sentinel -- “Visually and musically, this was Swift’s most accomplished production yet.”

The North American portion of THE RED TOUR is currently playing 66 shows (including 13 stadium stops) in 47 cities in 29 states and 3 provinces spanning 6 months in 2013.

Taylor Swift, who writes all of her own songs, is a seven-time GRAMMY winner, and is the youngest winner in history of the music industry’s highest honor, the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year. She is the only female artist in music history (and just the fourth artist ever) to twice have an album hit the 1 million first-week sales figure, and is the first artist since the Beatles (and the only female artist in history) to log six or more weeks at #1 with three consecutive studio albums. Taylor has an album on Rolling Stone’s prestigious The 50 Greatest Albums of All Time (by women) list, Time magazine has named her one of the 100 Most Influential people in the world, and she is Billboard's youngest-ever Woman of the Year. Taylor has career record sales in excess of 26 million albums and 75 million song downloads worldwide, and has had singles top both the country and pop radio charts around the globe.

Tickets to see Taylor Swift in Australia and New Zealand are priced from $85. A very limited number of premium Pit tickets will be sold for each show, which will allow fans 16 years and over access to an exclusive standing area surrounded by Taylor’s stage. The remainder of each venue will be fully reserved seating throughout.

RUSSIAN NATIONAL BALLET THEATRE

April 29th 2013 09:14
XDR (Australia) Cultural Promotion presents
RUSSIAN NATIONAL BALLET THEATRE
Swan Lake
The Nutcracker

Australian National Tour
September - November 2013

Returning to Australia to perform two of the most memorable and enchanting classical ballets

The Russian National Ballet Theatre returns for a tour of full-length classical performances of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker in over 20 cities across Australia from September.

With more than 50 ballet dancers, the Russian National Ballet Theatre has toured the USA, China, Italy, France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Guatemala, Poland, South Korea and Japan transforming Russian Ballet.

Tchaikovsky's instantly recognisable music set against the wonderfully dark story of good against evil; Swan Lake is one of the most famous and loved of all ballets. This production by Evgeny Amosov, Artistic Director of The Russian National Ballet Theatre, is heralded around the world.

Swan Lake's glamorous set is evocative of the Russian Imperial world in which the ballet was created, while the haunting moonlit lakeside is perfect for the tragic conflict of the human and spirit worlds and allows the audience to be swept away in the vulnerability of Odette/ Odile.

One of the most extravagant theatrical events of all time, the original St Petersburg staging of The Nutcracker in 1890 was a remarkable illustration of the Russian Imperial style at its peak. It is known as one of the superior Russian National Ballet Theatre productions in the modern era. Joined by a huge cast in a fairytale setting, the, current staging is also directed by Evgeny Amosov and accompanied by a glorious Tchaikovsky score. This version of The Nutcracker has all the elements of an enduring fairy tale: adventure, fantasy, good versus evil, and of course, love.

The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded with support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The basis for the creation of the theatre was the necessity of promising young theatre with high creative potential, both classical and contemporary. The theatre's repertoire includes not only classical performances such as Sleeping Beauty, Scotland Suite, Don Quixote and Gala Concert, but also modern ballets set to the music of Mozart, Bach, Ravel and others.

Artistic Director Evgeny Amosov, graduated from the Perm Academy of choreography and then joined the Ekaterinburg Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet as a principal dancer. He is also a prize-winner of Russian and International choreography contests of ballet-masters and ballet dancers. In 1988 Amosov was awarded the title Honored artist of Russia and in 1990 was the leading solo dancer of the state theatre Russian ballet. From 1993 till 1998 he studied at the Russian Academy of theatrical arts. In 2001 Amosov co-founded the company Russian National Ballet Theatre.

The Russian National Ballet Theatre is a cut above many of its rivals.
- Washington Post

Their gracefulness, perfect edges and lines demonstrate why the ballet, like opera, is such a powerful art form. You can feel the emotion in your seat without anyone saying a word that you can understand.

TIM MOORE

April 24th 2013 04:28
TIM MOORE
Singer. Songwriter. Poet.

Here's what Tim Morre has been up to since releasing his EP last year "I've had a forced break from music towards the end of last year after a frustrating trademark issue involving a Tim Moore from the US threatening to sue me for producing music under my birth name; crazy i know!".

With this finally sorted Moore is building momentum again, shooting some videos and supporting for the likes of Passenger.

Moore will be on tour with Stu Larsen and Natsuki Kurai kicking it off in Adelaide on April 18 at the Promethean, he also has some shows in early May. A regular protagonist at intimate and moving shows in Adelaide's vibrant nu-folk scene, Tim is a gifted storyteller with a voice of untempered honesty.

He has collaborated with the likes of Stu Larsen (QLD), Joshua Spier (SA), Cookie Baker (VIC), Natsuki Kurai (JPN) and been involved with stack of local and interstate projects.

He brings his wide experience to bear on the first release of his solo project. Recorded on a shoestring in a small studio in the Adelaide Hills, Fading Fires weaves together six stories about deep breaths, wide open skies and the end of the world.

"Very occasionally you come across a songwriter who stops you in your tracks and forces you to listen. This is the hidden treasure we're all searching for as songwriters and Tim Moore has it in spades." - Tim Hart, Boy & Bear

"What a treat it is to find a folk musician who can be subtle in his methods yet sharp in insight and powerful in impact!" - Anthony Vawser, MusicSA

"Amazing lyrics. Captivating melodies. Perfect instrumentation and production." - Stu Larsen
