The Saucy Cantina kicks off with loud music and big physical performance from Moira Finucane. The level of energy is set from the start and seldom does it sink throughout the evening. By her side is the ever smiling and supportive Tiffany Turnes (Sandra Pascuzzi) who does just that; turns big sheets of paper with the key food words for the show and looks with admiration in her eyes at her fellow performer. Finucane's in-your-face performance is completely opposite to the gentle and delicate ways of Pascuzzi. Her understated mute performance is a needed balance to Finucaneís explosive presence.
The show is structured as in chapters where each food, apple, pie, fish etc., becomes a story. Finucane's physical performance slaps you in the face with her sexuality, desire, despair and comic timing. It's a mix of chat show, storytelling and dance performance among many things. The Saucy Cantina works as a show even though there's a lack of an over all narrative story. The anticipation of an enthusiastic audience of what is to come next helps to fill in the sometimes too long gaps in between stories. Finucane's strength is her ability to engage the audience with her storytelling. Popcorn, Blutwurst and Argentina's Miracle in the Market are some of the best stories of the evening and her performance is taken to a higher and more interesting level.
During an hour and a half the audience is taken on a playful journey of an alternative use
of foods. Maybe not the most original but definitely effective for reaction. The grand finale of Finucane as some crazy milk-maiden hosing a (plastic covered) audience with full cream milk captures the show as a whole the onlookers thrill at the disgusting use of foods. Nevertheless, it's a very entertaining night and the audience leaves the theatre with a rush.
