Unstable Ape Records is proud to announce the release of Zulya's sixth album Tales of Subliming.
Zulya, originally from Tatarstan in central Russia, is familiar to audiences throughout Australia as a multi-award winning performer of traditional and original music derived from her Tatar and Russian cultural roots.
Tales of Subliming is the long-awaited follow up to 2007's runaway success 3 Nights, which not only was decorated with an ARIA award for best World Music Album, but also dominated the European World Music Charts for much of that year - finishing inside the top 10 for their end of year chart.
LISTEN TO:
THE SUBLIMING OF THE SNOW-MAIDEN (MP3)
Returning to the concept album format, Tales of Subliming finds Zulya using the fairytales of her heritage as the platform for her songwriting. She explains, "Subliming has two meanings; turning from a solid into a gas instantaneously - like dry ice, or becoming finer, purer. There’s often a transformation in fairy stories. They are about our journeys to achieve individuality in a symbolic form. Some say each of us identifies with our own fairy story or with a character from one. Tales of Subliming is a collection of vignettes from these characters’ lives, little scenes from their journeys.”
As with 3 Nights, the new album is a collection of songs written in all 3 of her spoken languages (Russian, Tatar, and English) – her ease with English now apparent with 7 of the 12 tracks in her adopted tongue.
The release of the new album coincides with a full 29 date national tour organised by Kultour
