ZULYA 29 date National Tour

March 30th 2010 14:14
ZULYA
announces new album Tales Of Subliming
plus 29 date national tour

"Wonderful spirited musician and definately a one of a kind singer" David Jobling, Sound Pet

"Kamalova's rich, emotive vocals shine." The Age

"an astonishing singer." Canberra Times

"one of the country's most enthralling performers and songwriters." The Australian

"The sort of music that feels like it could grind the planet to a halt with sheer force of beauty." Inpress

Unstable Ape Records is proud to announce the release of Zulya's sixth album Tales of Subliming.

Zulya, originally from Tatarstan in central Russia, is familiar to audiences throughout Australia as a multi-award winning performer of traditional and original music derived from her Tatar and Russian cultural roots.

Tales of Subliming is the long-awaited follow up to 2007's runaway success 3 Nights, which not only was decorated with an ARIA award for best World Music Album, but also dominated the European World Music Charts for much of that year - finishing inside the top 10 for their end of year chart.

LISTEN TO:
THE SUBLIMING OF THE SNOW-MAIDEN (MP3)

Returning to the concept album format, Tales of Subliming finds Zulya using the fairytales of her heritage as the platform for her songwriting. She explains, "Subliming has two meanings; turning from a solid into a gas instantaneously - like dry ice, or becoming finer, purer. There’s often a transformation in fairy stories. They are about our journeys to achieve individuality in a symbolic form. Some say each of us identifies with our own fairy story or with a character from one. Tales of Subliming is a collection of vignettes from these characters’ lives, little scenes from their journeys.”

As with 3 Nights, the new album is a collection of songs written in all 3 of her spoken languages (Russian, Tatar, and English) – her ease with English now apparent with 7 of the 12 tracks in her adopted tongue.

The release of the new album coincides with a full 29 date national tour organised by Kultour

James Keelaghan 2010 Australian Tour

March 29th 2010 03:38
James Keelaghan
HOUSE OF CARDS
2010 Australian Tour

Renowned Canadian performer James Keelaghan returns to Australia, touring to promote his latest album the critically acclaimed House of Cards. 10 new originals, some of them co-written with folk luminaries David Francey, Karine Polwart and Rose Cousins, make it one of his best yet.

James Keelaghan
For almost a quarter of a century, this Canadian poet laureate of the folk and roots music world has gone about his work with a combination of passion, intent and intensity, and curiosity.

House of Cards showcases Keelaghan's great assets, solid guitar playing, a voice unmatched and instantly recognizable, and lyrical excellence.

House Of Cards James Keelaghan
Keelaghan says “I was at the Celtic Colors Festival in 2008 and the producers locked six of us in a house for a week, and the company included Dave Gunning, David Francey, and Rose Cousins, it was an amazing experience.”

Armed with a songbook that has enlightened and enthralled audiences worldwide, Keelaghan’s life as an artist is one that is a perpetual journey on many levels.

It’s a journey that has invited fans of literate, layered songwriting to be a part of his artistic expeditions, some that weave their way through marvellously etched stories of a historical nature, to songs based on social commentary and others that mine the depths of the soul and the emotional trails of human relations.

Folk music is all about the stories, and Keelaghan’s masterful storytelling (he has a degree in History and is also a skilled thespian) has been part of the bedrock of his success, earning him many nominations and awards - including a Juno (Canada's ARIA).

Possessed of an insatiable appetite for finding the next unique story line, Keelaghan forges his pieces with brilliant craftsmanship and monogrammed artistic vision, making him one of the most distinctive and readily identifiable voices on both the Canadian and international singer-songwriter scenes.

CLOUD CONTROL | New Album

CLOUD CONTROL
NEW ALBUM ‘BLISS RELEASE’ NATIONAL TOUR

After months of anticipation, Cloud Control’s debut album is sure to be a Bliss Release.

Sydney’s pop maestros have announced a national tour in support of their brand new LP ‘Bliss Release’, hitting stores on May 14.

‘Bliss Release’ was recorded through 2009 and early 2010 and has so far offered two sublime singles, ‘Gold Canary’ and ‘This Is What I Said’. It took just four days to lay the bed tracks for the majority of the album, then eight long months of stolen evenings crafting this ethereal sound in bedrooms and family living rooms.

‘Bliss Release’ heralds a surprising and exciting new direction for the band, making it worthy of international recognition. ‘Gold Canary’ was chosen by UK voters as Single Of The Week on BBC6’s Rebel Playlist and influential British music website Drowned In Sound awarded Gold Canary ‘Single of the week’.

There was no love lost at home either, with local connoisseurs Mess Noise proclaiming that “Gold Canary quickly assumes its place as one of the best Australian singles of the year”.

The band has also evolved into a triumphant live music beast supporting high profile acts such as Supergrass and Josh Pyke, as well as numerous national tours with the likes of The John Steel Singers, Leader Cheetah and Yves Klein Blue. To top it all off, in 2009 they were invited to play the Great Escape festival in the UK, where they performed alongside Kasabian, The XX, The Temper Trap, Peter, Bjorn & John and many more.

The band will be touring throughout May and June with fellow psych pop compatriots Richard In Your Mind joining in on all dates.

Foster and Allen

FOSTER and ALLEN
Australian Tour 2010

Foster and Allen - Ireland's most famous and successful duo are returning to Australia in
May and June.

FOSTER and ALLEN
Mick Foster and Tony Allen have been performing together for over 30 years, and this will be their 16h trip to Australia.

These charismatic singers have been performing their unique blend of easy listening and folk music all over the world and their popularity is proven by their record sales. Between them they have sold 19 million records, making them one of Ireland's biggest entertainment exports, in the same league as U2, Enya, Boyzone and The Corrs.

Their 25 albums have included the immensely popular The Rambles of Spring, A Bunch of Thyme, Maggie and After All These Years. Their latest CD release FOSTER AND ALLEN - 100 HIT LEGENDS will be released on April 9 through Sony Music to coincide with this tour.

Formed in 1975, this most famous singing duo in Irish music history began working on the local music circuits of Ireland and England. Soon, with their own special brand of music, the duo became hugely popular. In the first year, Foster & Allen recorded their first single, The Rambles of Spring which was a massive hit on both sides of the Irish Sea.

Tony Allen was born in Mount Temple, Ireland, the youngest of nine children. His family loved music and encouraged Tony's interest in it from a very early age. In 1968, he turned professional, playing guitar and singing on a national level with many well-known Irish bands. He met Mick Foster in 1975 and they joined to form Foster & Allen.

Mick was born in County Kildare and began playing the piano accordion at age 13. In 1964, at 17, he won the first of three All Ireland Accordion Championships. The Foster and Allen band accompanying them to Australia includes Moyra Fraser (keyboards), Ollie Kennedy (bass guitar) and Bryan O'Donnell (guitar). After 32 years, their popularity continues to flourish and fans often travel long distances to catch their shows each time they tour Australia.

THE CULT “LOVE” LIVE WORLD TOUR HEADS TO AUSTRALIA!
The Cult to perform the “LOVE” album in its entirety, giving fans what they want!

Thursday, 11 March, 2010Chugg Entertainment and Sun Touring Company announced today that legendary rock act, THE CULT, will be heading to Australia as part of their “Love” Live Tour, with confirmed dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth in May, 2010.

This will be the first time THE CULT has toured Australia in 15 years, last performing as part of the Big Day Out in 1995.

The LOVE album is viewed by fans and world-wide media as The Cult’s pre-eminent release. From the immediately recognizable opening notes of She Sells Sanctuary, through Billy Duffy’s psychedelic guitar strains on Phoenix, to the resolve of Ian Astbury’s haunting baritone on Brother Wolf, Sister Moon, The Cult created an album that manoeuvres as a tour de force.

The Cult “LOVE” Live Tour will showcase the band’s alternative roots as musicians and performers, and is sure to electrify new fans and devotees. Since commencing the tour in mid 2009, the band have performed in diverse venues from the grand scale excitement of London’s Royal Albert Hall, to the intimate setting of Paris’ Le Bataclan, this tour will see the band fulfil the ultimate dream of Cult lovers across the globe, performing the unimaginable; a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness one of alternative rock’s most important records, LOVE, performed in its entirety, live onstage.

"The band is redefining the live album experience with the “LOVE” Live Tour; nothing is comparable to witnessing The Cult, fully engaged in the live creation of arguably their seminal album. For fans this will be the greatest tour yet, and for those just discovering The Cult, this staging will envelop them in a pure performance experience,” stated Cult manager, Tom Vitorino.

The band will take fans through a “best of” finale which will include their greatest hits spanning their storied career. The Cult will deliver spectacular production, along with the intense performances that fans have come to expect and have been working closely with their art/ design team to create an arresting set, with dramatic effects, using state-of-the art technology.

Continuing their historic creative partnership, Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy began writing together again in 2001 and have since recorded several songs at The Sunset Marquis Villa Recording Studios, in Los Angeles. Their highly anticipated new tracks will be the follow up to The Cult’s 2007 release, the critically acclaimed, Born Into This.

TOM JONES

March 10th 2010 06:53
THE FRONTIER TOURING COMPANY
PROUDLY ANNOUNCE TOM JONES AS THEIR 500TH TOUR

It’s no secret that over the years, The Frontier Touring Company has brought some of music’s greatest names to fans in Australia and New Zealand. Now 30 years on from our first tour in 1980, Frontier continues to bring audiences the best in musical entertainment and reach another grand milestone. It gives us great pleasure to announce that our 500th tour is the illustrious Tom Jones.

“I am delighted that Tom Jones is Frontier’s 500th tour” says Michael Gudinski, Managing Director of The Frontier Touring Company. “In our 30 years in the business Frontier has always had a focus on career artists and there’s no doubt that Tom has one of the most legendary careers on record. It’s very appropriate that of all of the tours in our gleaming history, no less than a knight has claimed the 500th spot.”
Tom Jones has toured with Frontier three times since 1995, and last night completed the New Zealand leg of his Australasian tour. His Australian shows kick off tomorrow in the Hunter Valley.

The reviews from New Zealand are overflowing with praise for the phenomenal star and critics seem to have had no reservations about the high quality of his shows, charismatic showmanship and enduring vocal capabilities:

“Sublime. From the moment he walked on to the stage, the personality of Jones filled the auditorium. It would be surprising if anyone in the nearly packed Town Hall felt he was not singing directly to them; such was the strength of his presence.” - Otago Daily Times

“Jones is a born showman… He moves through his versions of country, pop, dance and soul, very much making every song his own.” - The Dominion Post

“Looking as nimble as his fresh-faced ten-piece band, Jones shimmied about the stage, throwing in some cheeky pelvic thrusts and Welsh quips along the way…his famously resonant voice shook the vines.” – NZ Herald

The gifted Welsh performer, aptly also known in his homeland as ‘Jones The Voice’, is now ready to romance audiences across Australia and will sing at a series of arena venues in Sydney, Wollongong and Melbourne alongside his A Day On The Green appearances.
With an adoring fan-base that spans all ages and multiple genres, tickets to Tom Jones’ performances have been in high demand. The remaining tickets to all shows are on sale now, buy yours without delay to avoid disappointment.

Every ticket purchased includes a copy of Tom Jones’ Australian platinum selling album 24 Hours, also on sale through Liberator.

BLAKE | Classical Boyband

March 9th 2010 12:44
INTRODUCING THE HAUNTING NEW ALBUM
‘TOGETHER’
FROM “THE CLASSICAL FAB FOUR”

BLAKE

Including the single ‘Beautiful Earth’ - the Earth Hour and World Wildlife Fund anthem

Just three years ago, four young men with a passion for music, found each other on Facebook and decided to form a classical Boyband. After capturing the imagination of the music industry and public alike, the boys signed a multimillion dollar record deal, toured the world, performed for royalty, and defined the genre that became classical crossover. BLAKE-mania had begun.

BLAKE | Classical Boyband

Produced by industry veteran, Nick Patrick, who has worked with Katherine Jenkins and Hayley Westenra, ‘TOGETHER’ is a mixture of classical standards and new arrangements of popular repertoire of the past forty years.

The title perfectly describes the album’s themes of peace, harmony and togetherness including Paul Simon’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, Elvis Costello’s ‘She’, the respectfully haunting ‘Abide With Me’, ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Miserables as well as the Denise Rich track ‘Unsung Hero’, written for the boys.

The song ‘Beautiful Earth’ was written by BLAKE specifically for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the upcoming Earth Hour celebrations (March 27). At 8.30pm on 27th March 2010, millions of people will show they care about climate change, by turning off their lights for ‘Earth Hour’. Earth Hour 2009 was the world’s largest mass participation event on climate change, with around a billion people in 88 countries, switching off their lights for one hour. In total 1,059 iconic landmarks around the world switched off their lights, including Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro, The Strip in Las Vegas and the Pyramids in Egypt. Click here for the ‘Beautiful Earth’ filmclip.

Blake recently unveiled their highly anticipated third album, ‘TOGETHER’ in the UK late 2009 which has now gone on to be nominated for the 2010 Classical BRIT ‘Album Of The Year’ award.

The past year that has seen Blake triumph at Wimbledon (at the grand opening of the historic new roof), tour the UK with soprano Natasha Marsh and saw the boys take their svelte look and four of the most exceptional voices to the rest of the World. When in Australia in late 2009, their album ‘And So It Goes’ went straight to #1 on the ARIA Classical chart, beating the legendary Andre Rieu. They also performed at The Melbourne Cup and Spring Racing Carnival and the media dubbed them as “The Classical Fab Four”. Blake will also launch their assault in America later this year, at a very special gala show in New York.

The Foundling, produced by Cowboy Junkies’ Michael Timmins, is a song cycle about relinquishment and adoption of which Gauthier says, “I was born to an unwed mother in 1962 and surrendered to St. Vincent’s Women and Infants Asylum on Magazine Street in New Orleans, where I spent my first year. I was subsequently adopted but left my adopted family at 15.

I wandered for years looking for, but never quite finding a place that felt like home. I searched for, found, and was denied a meeting with my birth mother when I was 45 years old. She couldn’t afford to re-open the wound she’d carried her whole life, the wound of surrendering a baby. The Foundling is my story.”

The Foundling will be released March 5th, available through Planet/MGM. Dates include appearances at the Moss Vale Festival, March 13, the Brunswick Festival, March 14, and other venues across the country.

Mary burst onto the US music scene with her outstanding debut album, released at the age of 35. Since then, acclaim has followed Mary Gauthier on every step of her remarkable journey. Her breakthrough album, Mercy Now (2005) was continuously “discovered” and lauded for the two years following its release, earning mentions on a score of year end “best of” lists in ’05, including the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune and No Depression.

Her most recent release, Between Daylight and Dark (2007) has been called “…a triumph that should catapult her to the forefront of Americana singer/songwriters,” by Paste Magazine and she has been hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “a unique, intrinsically valuable musical voice. And there’s never a surplus of those.”
