Goodgrooves

August 28th 2010 02:49
REGROOVED in conjunction with GOODGROOVE Records is fast becoming one of the most popular and truly worldwide events smashing shows in the UK, Canada, Brazil, Italy, Ibiza, Melbourne, Perth, & New Zealand. With the launch of REGROOVED Worldwide in Mach 2009 in Australia we have gone from strength to strength and are launching the first Australian tour that will feature Qdup Foundation (US, QDUP RECORDS), Slynk (GOODGROOVE RECORDS) & Paul Master (GOODGROOVE RECORDS) playing in Sydney, Jindabyne, Gold Coast & Brisbane over 3 weeks. This is one tour not to be missed.

QDUP FOUNDATION (U.S, Goodgroove & Qdup Records) America's funky Breaks production trio Qdup Foundation have made their mark on the NuFunk sound. After dropping top selling releases on Bombstrikes, Goodgroove, and their own Qdup Records labels over the past few years; the boys have set forth an assault of ass shaking remixes over the course of 2009. Have remixed for the like of Fort Knox Five, Nappy Riddem, Basement Freaks, Danny Massure, Tal M Klein, Normski, and Ursula1000: Qdup have secured themselves a spot of as one of the most in demand artists for remixing friends of the funk. Their productions have gained massive support and play's from Ali B's Kiss Fm Show (UK) as well as NSB Radio (UK) and Tripple J Radio (AUS). Along with the air play support, Qdup's tracks have been getting caned in clubs and festivals by the likes of A-Skillz, Fort Knox Five, Krafty Kuts and Ursula1000 among others.

A seasoned DJ with over 14 years experience behind the decks, Jason Brown AKA Jayclue (1/3 of Qdup Foundation) knows how to rock the dancefloor. His DJ Sets showcast the same range of funky tunes and tempos that have influenced them over the years. Often known to move seamlessly mashing up hip-hop to mid-tempo funk and soul, breaks, dance-hall, reggae, disco, house and even funky DnB, Qdup's DJ Sets showcase this wide range of party rocking tunes and tempos aimed straight at the dancefloor.

SLYNK (Brisbane, Goodgroove records)

Things really started to explode for 24 year old Slynk after releasing his debut EP earlier this year with UK based record label 'Goodgroove'. With full support from some of the world's most respected vinyl slingers including: A Skillz (Fingerlickin'), Fort Knox Five, Freddy Fresh Worldwide, Craig Charles (BBC 6Music), DJ Moneyshot (Solidsteel) and more, it sold like hot funky vinyl cakes and topped the Juno sales charts for weeks. This landed him gigs interstate and a spot at The Fractal Forest stage at Canada's biggest funky breaks festival, 'Shambhala' where he played alongside breaks heavy weights Nick Thayer, Fuzzbox, Boogie Army, Smalltown DJ's and more. Now branching out from Goodgroove, heÂ’s released a remix on Pigballs Records and 2 more tracks on the Manmade Feature Funk series topping the Juno charts again. These releases have been a long time coming and most of Slynk's reputation stems from his inventory of unreleased and unsigned bootlegs that are highly sought after by DJs across the planet.

PAUL MASTER (Gold Coast, Goodgroove Records)

DJ Paul Master is renowned for his Funk & Jazz mash ups of
Breaks, Hip hop and DnB. With over 10 years experience playing dance floors and now as manager of Regrooved Australia, Paul has had the opportunity to work along side some of Australia’s and the World’s best Producers and DJ’s including Krafty Kuts, Mo’Horizons, Fdel, Nickodemus, Nick Thayer, Mooqee and Featurecast.

Since he launched Regrooved in March 2009, Paul has worked hard to develop this night in conjunction with Goodgroove Records UK, to become the biggest funk clubnight in the world with events now held in Australia, NZ, Canada, Italy, Brazil and the UK. He is now signed with Goodgroove and continues his efforts to take Regrooved around the world.

In addition to his work with Goodgroove, Paul plays in the ‘Rephrase Live and the Action Figures’ show alongside Rephrase playing at Festivals and Major Club nights across Australia as well as monthly residencies in Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane. Paul has also branched out into booking and works with the ‘Blah Agency’, which together have brought out Mooqee, Featurecast and Qdup.

Most recently he won the inaugural 2010 Smirnoff Promoter Grant and launched the first Serato Audio Visual dedicated night. He also celebrated 2009 NYE headlining an event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

THE SOUNDS OF WINTERLAND HEAT UP CARRIAGEWORKS’ NIGHTS

A series of 18 free live music events featuring over 100 local and emerging artists

There’s no excuse not to make the most of the winter nights (6-10pm) this July, with a massive line-up of free live and themed music nights at CarriageWorks as part of Sydney’s cutting edge arts centre’s first-ever Winterland festival (5-31 July, 2010).

Slowdowns
Get off the couch and down to Eveleigh for Sydney’s biggest indie music, arts, food, and skating winter festival, to check out some of Sydney’s newest and coolest emerging bands, or hit the ice for Winterland’s evening skate sessions to cool tunes. Skate/dance the night away under CarriageWorks giant disco ball and hear the hottest bands and DJs heart-warming sounds heating up the wintry nights throughout July.

Highlights of Winterland’s hot live showcase include indigenous country and western duo Stiff Gins, pop/folk singer Rosie Catalano, indie/folk inspired band The Preachers, acoustic crew Leroy Lee, alt country cowboy band The Slowdowns, and Ray Mann the troubadours of soul.

Every Thursday night emerging and established bands will provide the sounds of winter. Themed nights include alt country (8 July) with the likes of Sydney newcomers tipped the 'next big thing' - The Preachers, old timey hillbilly band The Lurkers, fiddle fuelled gypsy pop group Wil Massey and The Ghost Trio, and singer/songwriter Charlie Trindall.

Winterland goes unplugged with an acoustic/folk night (15 July) staring Triple J Unearthed’s winner Leroy Lee, and Rosie Catalano, alongside mellow sounds of indie folk artists Kate Duffy, Frontiers in Photography, and Quiet Titans.

A jazz and blues night (22 July) explores a smooth mix of jazz-funk and soulful grooves with The John Hardaker Direction and Charlotte Jane. And 2SER presents the final Thursday night (29 July) at Winterland with Sydney’s hottest new and unsigned bands.

Friday nights are all about fending off the cold with a little disco fever! A Disco on Ice, complete with giant disco ball, and music from Future Classic DJs kicks off 9 July with Arithmatix!, the disco alias of Sydney DJ Michael Di Francesco - one of the first artists Future Classic ever released on their record label. Spruce Lee hits the decks 16 July with blistering dance floor bombs and heartfelt soul jams. Spruce Lee has remixed local heroes Architecture in Helsinki and legendary Bagraiders, occasionally breaking out his alter ego Toni Toni on the mic while he's DJing – here’s hoping. Loin Brothers - Long John Saliva and Paradise Lost's DJ Silvio join Winterland (23 July); and Sydney DJ Simon Caldwell ( 30 July) plays the final night – he’s worked with the highest order of international talent including artists like Grace Jones, Normay Jay and James Brown.

Saturday nights headline with live music from Feral Media (9 July) featuring wintery soundscapes and warm beats created by a number of leading electronic and ambient musicians - Vorad Fils, Gentleforce, Broken Chip, Textile Audio and Underlapper. Music for Trees (17 July) – a not for profit group who plant trees from money raised at their gigs - showcases live sets from Ray Mann, The Slowdowns, Stiff Gins, The Delroys and The Anon Anons. Karaoke night, with host Tim Jackman, (24 July) is a fun night to pick your favourite tunes and sing the night away - with duets, harmonised backing singers, support dancers and personal groupies welcome.

Winterland finishes up on 31 July with Oxfam Australia's Exchange for Change event where local bands play during a mass clothing exchange. Bring clothing to swap, participate in a hands-on workshop, and listen to a series of talks and panel discussions about labour rights and ethical fashion alongside an ethical fashion parade.

Winterland brings all the magic of a European winter festival to Sydney’s inner west, with loads of fun activities for all ages. Throughout July, the old Eveleigh rail yards will transform with a dazzling indoor ice rink, live music, designer art markets curated by The Finders Keepers team, food stalls serving alpine cuisine, dancing and more to get everyone out and about during the chillier days.

Admission to Winterland is free, and the ice skating rink will be open and in action during the music nights every week, making Winterland the perfect after-work/weekend hang-out for colleagues, friends, and love-birds. Entry onto the ice rink is the cheapest in Sydney - book a session now to ensure your place on the ice (head to www.winterland.com.au – group bookings available).

Winterland is the newest and coolest event on Sydney’s social and school holiday calendar. Winterland offers fun, fresh, low-cost winter activities that will keep visitors of all ages warm and fuzzy throughout July. Embrace the winter atmosphere and be warmed by the sweet aroma of roasting chestnuts, thick Italian hot chocolate, and spicy bratwurst. There won’t be a dull moment - get down to CarriageWorks and get amongst it.

FRIDAY NIGHTS - is a disco on ice, complete with giant disco ball and music from Future Classic DJ’s. Future Classic is record label, music publisher and touring agency based in Sydney. www.futureclassic.com.au.

9 July, Arithmatix is the disco alias of Michael Di Francesco, a well travelled Sydney native who was one of the first artists that Future Classic ever released on their record label. An in demand studio wizz playing in a number of different bands and production outfits, Michael has played with top notch artists like Jamie Lidell and has recently remixed electro-disco favourites Dragonette and Mario Basanov.

16 July, Spruce Lee Having remixed local heroes Architecture in Helsinki and Bagraiders amongst others, Spruce Lee's skills in the studio are well documented. Though we get most excited when Spruce pulls out his Toni Toni Lee persona and gets on the mic while he's DJing. Expect an eclectic selection of tunes ranging from blistering dancefloor bombs through to heartfelt soul jams and hopefully an appearance from Toni Toni on the mic.

23 July, Lion Brothers are Long John Saliva and Paradise Lost's DJ Silvio. Rumored to have been raised in the backroom of a Sydney leather club, a diet of strobe lighting and throbbing sub bass fuzzy disco guitars and exotic synthesizers make up the Loins' musical arsenal. Also releasing on Future Classic, the Loin Brothers have vinyl singles out to date both with heavy international praise and big names remixes from the likes of LA disco fiend Woolfy and London based Mock & Toof.

30 July, Simon Caldwell is one of a handful of Australian DJ's whose name adds a certain integrity to an event. Playing records to radio listeners and dancing party people alike since the early 90's, Simon is a founding member of the infamous Mad Racket collective, a party that has been going from strength to strength for over 11 years. Simon has played alongside the highest order of international talent including artists like Grace Jones, Normay Jay and James Brown and is a welcome guest to round out the July Disco On Ice roster.

SATURDAY NIGHTS - Showcase a range of Sydney’s best bands and live acts. Presented in conjunction with Feral Media, Music For Trees, and Oxfam

10 July, Live music from Feral Media, featuring wintery soundscapes and warm beats created by a number of leading electronic and ambient musicians, including Vorad Fils, Gentleforce, Broken Chip and Underlapper. www.feralmedia.com.au

PENDULUM 2010 Aus & NZ

July 1st 2010 05:01
PENDULUM

TOURING IMMERSION IN AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND IN 2010

The Frontier Touring Company is excited to announce the tour of Australia's very own electronica drum & bass six-piece, Pendulum.

Pendulum will be touring in support of their newly released ARIA #10 album Immersion. The first single, 'Watercolour' shot into the #1 position on the iTunes chart and the excitement that has built around the album is almost palatable.

The band has sold over 1 million albums worldwide; with In Silico and Hold Your Colour reaching Platinum sales. On a performance level, Pendulum have smashed the international festival circuit playing at Glastonbury, Download, V and Global Gathering and their amazing live shows are known to attract huge crowds and earn fantastic reviews.

'Pendulum are a band that know how to work a crowd... The boys played flawlessly'. - The [AU] Review

'Pendulum put on a great show, full of zest and energy and they make it look very much like they're enjoying it, an infectious, high octane performance that made you appreciate it the more knowing that it was positive and fun and technically very proficient. The crowd was very much engaged, joining in with the sing-a-longs and cajoling as the glam light show raged on behind.' - In the Mix

'Definitely a band to be seen live, Pendulum proved you don't need a stadium of fans you just need dedicated ones who will dance!' - MTV, UK

'Having witnessed Pendulum produce an exhilarating set at Download last June it seemed anything that happened tonight would fail to come close - even the Marylin Manson fans couldn't resist a rave that day. However, I couldn't have been more wrong and as the reggae-tinged 'Tarantula' preceded the eerily transcending 'Hold Your Colour' to complete this memorable spectacle, the band vacate to an overwhelming applause.' - Brighton Centre, UK

Their music has vigorous energy and an eerie distortion, complemented by an accompaniment of horns and tension building breakdowns. Pendulum's increasing power to compose such progressive tracks is highlighted through their dynamic musical collection and unforgettable live performances.

Pendulum has collaborated with musicians such as The Prodigy's Liam Howlett, Swedish metal kings In Flames, Public Enemy and Anthrax to create Immersion; incorporating sounds more eclectic than ever before.

This is a tour that you will not want to miss. Purchase your tickets early to ensure you don't miss out.

Frontier Members presale commences Wednesday 30 June, 2pm AEST. Tickets on sale to the general public from 9.00am local time, Thursday 1 July.

‘INTRIGUER’ DEBUTS AT #1

July 1st 2010 01:32
CROWDED HOUSE ‘INTRIGUER’ DEBUTS AT #1

New single ‘Either Side of the World’
at radio Monday June 28

The highly anticipated and critically acclaimed sixth studio album from Crowded House Intriguer, has debuted at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart. It is the fifth time the band has topped the chart, giving them a cumulative total of fourteen weeks on top.

Intriguer follows 2007’s Time On Earth, which hit No. 1 in Australia and New Zealand, and No. 3 in the UK. It was a continuation of the legacy created by such music milestones as Crowded House, Woodface, Together Alone and Recurring Dream.

These albums have together accounted for career sales of more than 10 million, produced such global hits as ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over,’ ‘Something So Strong’ and ‘Weather With You,’ and created Crowded House’s reputation as one of the most compelling bands in the world.

The second single from Intriguer is ‘Either Side Of The World.’ Finn describes the track as, “a slight homage to JPY (John Paul Young).. a bit Love Is In The Air”. The track transformed and took on the samba groove at their very last rehearsal.

The album was recorded last year at Roundhead studios in Auckland with Jim Scott, who returned for mixing duties in LA. Finn describes the album as “This 10 track album is exotic in parts, traditional in origin, through many a twist and turn we fashioned some drama and intrigue. You will find some threads that go back through all that history and some new discoveries as well that will need to be followed up. Its part of the continuum and it may just be the best thing we’ve done ……till the next one.”

“Crowded House's mirror ball seems to be spinning under random chemical influences and Neil Finn's word pictures drip more heavily abstract but tunes zigzag towards similar, deeply satisfying bullseyes on the second album of their second life” Michael Dwyer, The Age (4½ stars)

“Crowded House displays a return to its effervescent best..” Graeme Hammond, Sunday Herald Sun (4 stars)

“A welcome, if not classic, addition to the Finn legacy.” Iain Shedden, The Australian

“Finn’s voice is, as always, comfortingly familiar, an immediate joy on an album that rewards patience and persistence.” Rod Yates, Rolling Stone (3½ stars)

The Flicks

FLICKS
SIGN RECORD DEAL

Brisbane pop/punk/electronic four-piece, ‘Flicks’, who hit the road this week for their mammoth Queensland tour in support of the band’s new single ‘Hayley’, have signed a record deal with Difrnt Music/Spitfire Music – home to COG, The Angels and Regular John.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be looking forward to presenting Flicks' music to you,” says Spitfire Music.

The band – featuring Adam Milad (Guitar/Vocals), Michael Thomas (Bass/Vocals), Hugh Wheeler (Drummer) and Andy Francis (Guitars/Keys) – will soon bestow to the masses their new single in the form of ‘Hayley’ which had given birth to the idea of a chance date with a guy’s most dreamed about girl – a situation most people would be able to relate to.

In Flicks case – their love for Paramore front-woman, Hayley Williams. “It was funny, because we met her boyfriend [New Found Glory’s Chad Gilbert ] backstage at their recent Brisbane show and he didn't want to kill us for writing a song about his girlfriend!!”

The track was produced by Todd Morse (H20, The Offspring, Juliette Lewis) and mixed by Grant Wallis of Aneiki fame (most played song on Australian radio in 2001 for ‘Pleased to Meet You’). It was recorded at the The Grove studio with Yanto Browning (Kate Miller-Heidke, Yves Klein Blue) engineering the track.

Originally forming under the guise of ’52 Flicks’, the name deriving from a trip to the movies, it was the addition of the band’s fourth member Andy “Expandy” Francis, that resulted in dropping the ‘52’ from their name.

“One of us was on our way to the movies one day after practice and the friend they were hanging with asked what flick they were seeing,” says Thomas. “The 52 was just our ages added up but since we added a new member this year it made sense to drop the 52”.

“We all write songs separately and together drawing influences from bands outside our genre. It makes it easier to come up with better songs because we all push each other for new improved ideas”.

“We aim to have the best melodies possible and love throwing in some gameboy music during our live set”.

With the band about to embark on a launch tour throughout the country, the band’s live show is heavily driven by an electrically energized set.

“We just love jumping around and getting in the crowds face. We spend along time practising making sure everything is perfect. We also enjoy terrible jokes.”

2010 is already shaping up to be a massive year for the Brisbane four-piece having earlier this year supported Sydney rockers Short Stack on their extensive tour of North Queensland.

Free Download new BRITTLE EP

BRITTLE ANNOUNCE "THE OWLS" EP & NATIONAL TOUR

There's nothing more that Melbourne alternative rockers BRITTLE want to do but to capture their dynamic live sound and energy in their recordings and that's exactly what they've achieved with legendary producer Mark Opitz at the helm on the band's new five-track EP titled "The Owls" which will be unleashed on June 14 as a free digital download.

The EP will be backed by a massive tour of the same name that will see the band visiting all capital cities in June, July and August as well as a host of major regional centres around the country. It will be their largest Australian tour since the release of their debut EP 'Chinese Whispers' in 2008.

With his work producing landmark albums for artists including INXS, The Divinyls, The Angels, Cold Chisel, KISS and Ray Charles, Mark Opitz's impressive history is a good indication as to the quality you can expect from Brittle's "The Owls".

"It was a massive learning curve for us as a band," said Brittle lead vocalist Ben "Tokyo" Whiting. "That guy knows a lot and he taught us so much during our time working with him. He really made sure we got our 'live' sound on the EP and most importantly helped us work towards creating our own unique sound for the five tracks".

Having supported artists including Faker, Kisschasy, Snow Patrol, Grinspoon, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Something With Numbers, and more recently Katy Perry, Brittle make their dynamic set seem effortless and really know how to put on a show. "We are a band that is driven by playing live," says Whiting. "If you like our band you MUST see us live!!"

Brittle
"Brittle are the type of band that you really look forward to seeing, and they never let you down," said Rock website FasterLouder.com.au, describing Whiting's vocals as "virtually flawless". "Regardless of whether or not you were familiar with the songs, the band captivated the crowd. It is clear that we will be seeing big things from them in the not too distant future" they added.

Brittle's live show isn't the only thing buzzing, they are also making headway in the international music industry, having been described as "one of the bands to watch" by Music Week UK & Insider Magazine, as well as being listed as a "buzz band" by The Music Network in Australia.

NE-YO’s NEW SINGLE “BEAUTIFUL MONSTER” RECEIVES HUGE WORLDWIDE MYSPACE LAUNCH TODAY AT 5pm (AEST)

AUSTRALIAN JULY TOUR - UPCOMING 4TH ALBUM, SET FOR SEPTEMBER RELEASE

Multi-platinum, 3-time Grammy Award-winning Def Jam recording artist Ne-Yo goes into interstellar overdrive today from 5pm (AEST) - for the MySpace world-premiere of “Beautiful Monster,” his brand new single, and the first track from his upcoming 4th album, set for September release (details to be announced in the weeks ahead).

MySpace Music together with their international teams in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and iLike.com will pull out all the stops for the "Beautiful Monster" launch, including billboards and banners across the site which will result in millions of fan impressions worldwide! Catch all the action today from 5pm at myspace.com/neyo.

“Beautiful Monster” was written by Ne-Yo and produced by Stargate. Ne-Yo’s track record of smashes with Stargate includes “So Sick” (2006, #1 pop, #1 UK), “Because of You” (2007, #2 pop), “Closer” (2008, #1 Dance, #1 UK), “Miss Independent” (2008, #1 R&B), and “Mad.”

“Beautiful Monster,” Ne-Yo’s first major single release in more than a year and a half, is also the first early warning shot from his upcoming new album. Untitled as of this writing, it will be his first long-player since the RIAA platinum Year Of The Gentleman debuted at #1 on the Soundscan and UK national charts in September 2008. That album spun off the triumvirate of consecutive RIAA platinum hits above: “Closer,” “Miss Independent,” and “Mad.”

Year Of The Gentleman went on to generate a league-leading total of five Grammy Award nominations in 2009 - with “Miss Independent” winning for Best R&B Song (songwriters award) and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Year Of The Gentleman followed up Because Of You (released May 2007), which won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album, and In My Own Words (February 2006) - both of which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.

Ne-Yo, two-time BET Award-winning Best Male R&B Artist, founded The Compound Foundation which is committed to service at-risk and disadvantaged youth. The Compound Foundation sponsors performances, motivational speakers and mentorship opportunities with leaders and business people within the community.

Ne-Yo will be heading to Australia this July as he has recently been announced to perform at Winterbeatz 2010.
