SUNDANCE KIDS TOUR WITH AVALON DRIVE
Two of Australia’s most promising alternative/indie bands, Avalon Drive and The Sundance Kids, unite for a three week residency tour throughout Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide from 24 August to 10 September, supported by local artists.

Sundance Kids

Avalon Drive and The Sundance Kids are creating a massive buzz at the moment across the country with both bands releasing highly anticipated new material in August and having recently played sold out shows in their home States. To keep the residencies fresh and exciting for the bands and fans alike, prior to the doors opening, the bands will toss a coin to decide the night’s line up, meaning a spontaneous line-up week to week as well as fostering some healthy and fun competition between the bands (excluding all Adelaide shows).

Described as a group who command some serious attention by Time Off Magazine and is a band you want to see live by MTV, Avalon Drive has performed with some of the biggest acts including INXS, All American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, Hoobastank, Yellowcard and The Veronicas. The residencies will give punters the chance to see what all the hype is about!

Recently signing with SonyBMG, Avalon Drive " target="_blank">Avalon Drive are set to release their forthcoming EP later this year. Already possessing a strong fan base and known for their energetic live performances, Avalon Drive is a force to be reckoned with and should not be missed.

After independently releasing their second EP – Including the Atmosphere in 2007 and recording their debut album across May and June this year, The Sundance Kids have been busy touring the East Coast with their powerful blend of indie/pop/rock anthems, that speak volumes for who they are and how seriously they take their music. Quoted as being one of the premier rock acts in SA by Time Off Magazine, these five Adelaide boys are creating serious interest after a solid string of live shows and an ever growing following.

‘MELODIA’ | The Vines Tour

October 24th 2008 23:43
THE VINES – MELODIA TOUR

ONLY A FEW TICKETS LEFT FOR OCTOBER – NOVEMBER TOUR

Presented by Triple J, Channel [V], Max and FasterLouder.com.au

Originally renowned for having “sold-out” upon first signing a record deal back in 2001, The Vines have once again proven their worth as top class sell-outs, with most of their October-November dates all gone bar the shouting. Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth have all GONE, with only a limited number of tickets remaining for Canberra, Brisbane and their 2nd Sydney show.

Let’s not split hairs though. If you want to see one of Australia’s most exciting rock outfits of all time live on stage in Sydney, Brisbane or Canberra, for God’s sake get yourself a ticket now or miss out.

With their new video for 'Get Out' chosen as Channel [V]’s Ripe Clip of the Week and their Triple J Live At The Wireless performance having aired this week, The Vines are primed to enjoy themselves (at their own expense) every night of this tour, playing tracks from all four of their albums with gay abandon.

It’s true to say that a guitar may get smashed here and there, and perhaps the odd drum kit will regret having ever been made, but let us not forget that rock and roll was once the music of rebellion, and on a good night - and even a bad one - a Vines show is a brutal reminder of why this scandalous art form was once so feared by parents and squares alike. They recall a time when bands were appalled by their parents’ record collections rather than inspired by them, and to witness it up close is to feel excited about the whole dirty business again.

Six years is, to quote Mott The Hoople, “a mighty long way down rock ‘n’ roll”. Though it might only feel like yesterday that The Vines ram-raided their way into the public consciousness, 2008 finds them releasing their fourth album ‘Melodia’. It greets the world with the kind of blinking, wide eyed enthusiasm of a band just out of the garage. The real story, though, is of a band who have experienced an accelerated career lived out very publicly in a whirlwind of brilliant pop records, legendary gigs and gruelling world tours, breakdowns, break ups and the occasional fug of spliff smoke, enough to make lesser mortals run for the hills, never to return to the frontline…

In 2002, The Vines were at the very forefront of an exciting new rock movement around the world along with contemporaries The Strokes, The Hives and The White Stripes. Their debut album 'Highly Evolved', sold almost 2 million copies. Their second album 'Winning Days' was a less happy time for the band in spite of its quality when singer Craig Nicholls’ increasingly erratic behaviour led to a diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome (a high functioning form of autism) and an extended hiatus as Nicholls learnt to deal with his condition. 'Vision Valley' saw the band re-emerge with a still fragile yet unshakably gifted Nicholls starting afresh. His gradual rehabilitation saw the band re-emerge on to the live stage again with a series of outstanding festival performances in Australia and the UK in 2006 including Big Day Out, Reading and Leeds. 2007 was spent writing and rehearsing songs for what is now known as ‘Melodia’.

No one really had the right to expect to find The Vines in such rude health, but with this album, the band are ready to drop back in where they started. The record, recorded again with Rob Schnapf (‘Highly Evolved’, ‘Winning Days’) in LA, sees the band pushing themselves to the polar extremes of their sound – pummelling, speedball fired demento rock amped up to the Nth degree (with the likes of “Manger”, “Get Out” & “Scream”) while bucolic pop is allowed to tranq out into classically beautiful lazy day territory (“A.S III”, “True As The Night” & “Orange Amber”). Twisted psychedelia? Album closer “She Is Gone” is a mesmerizing, circular riff that soars skywards into the stratosphere, all rippling guitars and angel’s sigh vocals. Pure unadulterated gonzoid rock ‘n’ roll? Recently debuted first single, “He’s A Rocker”, arguably their finest two minutes and four seconds since “Get Free” (actually that was two mins seven but who’s counting?).

This Saturday July 12, The Vines will release their new album ‘Melodia’ on Ivy League Records. The album features fourteen new songs, including ‘He’s A Rocker’ which has been on high rotation around the country.

The next stage of The Vines career begins here and it’s a safe bet to say that anything goes. In fact, based on the last six years, it’s possibly best not to assume anything other than it’s going to be a hell of a ride…

The Vines play a special one off Triple J show in Sydney on July 16 at The Manning Bar – tickets are only available via Triple J so tune in now so you don’t miss out! They then head to Fuji Rock Festival on July 25 and Splendour In The Grass, August 2.

Go Set | going on tour

October 2nd 2008 03:37
When singer/songwriter J. Keenan and bassist Mark Moran formed The Go Set in 2003, it seemed only natural to combine the elements of the music they had grown up on. Having both been brought up on everything from traditional celtic and folk music, to early seventies punk rock, and with a voice for political perspective and social conscience, The Go Set embarked on a unique musical journey. Combining the folk elements of the bagpipes, accordion, and mandolin, with distorted punk guitars and a rock n roll ethos, The Go Set created a sound and direction all its own...

GERARD MASTERS TRIO | On Tour!

October 2nd 2008 01:20
Following the successful launch of his highly praised third album Pendulum earlier this year, Gerard Masters takes his trio on a lightning five cities in five days tour around the country.

Whilst remaining true to the jazz piano trio tradition, there’s a pop/rock sensibility which Gerard brings to the band via four years touring and recording with artists such as Missy Higgins and Ben Gillies (Silverchair). There is also a strong blues/roots tinge to some of the tracks, as is evident in Stockton Shuffle and some what more elusively in Richie P
