CAMP ROCK 2: THE FINAL JAM

August 19th 2010 05:55
IT’S ON! DEMI LOVATO AND JONAS BROTHERS REUNITE FOR CAMP ROCK 2

SOUNDTRACK TO DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE

CAMP ROCK 2: THE FINAL JAM

JONAS BROTHERS

AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 17.

DEBUTS 3 ON BILLBOARD CHARTS

Demi Lovato and the multi-platinum-selling artists, the Jonas Brothers are featured on the soundtrack of the summer, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, set to rock into stores and online retailers on Friday September 17. The album features 15-all new songs from the movie, including three bonus songs (“Different Summers,” “Walkin’ In My Shoes” and “It’s Not Too Late”). Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam premieres Saturday October 2 on Disney Channel.

After the tremendous success of the original Camp Rock in 2008, the blockbuster Disney Channel Original Movie catapulted Demi Lovato into a global star and pumped up the volume on the hugely popular Jonas Brothers. In addition, the Camp Rock soundtrack sold 2.5 million CDs worldwide, spent a remarkable 10 weeks in the Top 10 on the US Billboard 200 Album Chart, and peaked at #13 on the ARIA album chart in the same year.

Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam is a full out rock 'n roll musical that celebrates music, dance and the freedom of summer and reminds viewers to 'enjoy the journey.' This summer of fun opens on a high-pitched Camp Rock reunion. All the Camp Rockers have returned, eager to tune up and rock out but a glistening new camp across the lake, Camp Star, poaches Camp Rock's counsellors and may put Camp Rock out of business. Mitchie Torres (played by Demi Lovato) steps it up as she challenges the egocentric Camp Star to an end-of-summer performance duel - it’s on!

Nick Jonas commented, “In the first movie, music was part of it. This one - music tells the story.” Demi Lovato added, “In this movie there are several different kinds of music - and music is what drives ‘Camp Rock 2’.”

The accomplished songwriters who contributed to the full out musical film and soundtrack include: Kara DioGuardi, Mitch Allan, Dapo Torimiro, Antonina Armato, Tim James, Jamie Houston, Adam Watts and Andy Dodd.
The following is a complete track listing from Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam:

An intimate life of Paul McCartney

August 16th 2010 14:43
FAB
An intimate life of Paul McCartney
Howard Sounes

In this authoritative biography, journalist and acclaimed author Howard Sounes builds the most accurate and extensive profile of Sir Paul McCartney, music's greatest living legend. Drawing on countless interviews, legal records and every other possible document, Sounes' meticulous approach and exhaustive research unmask the real man.

From the Beatle’s early childhood, right up until the present day, FAB delves deep, exposing the often dark reality behind Sir Paul’s consistently positive and relaxed public image. The book is full of new material and first time interviews, some with family members from the inner circle.

Among the hundreds of new facts to emerge are: details about Paul’s reaction to John’s death; quotes from Paul’s Hamburg girlfriend; his relationship with Bob Dylan and his surprisingly close relationship with the Queen; a very detailed account of his first marriage, with many new interviews with friends and relatives including Linda’s half-brother Philip Sprayregen quoted for the first time. There are stories of the friction in his family and with fellow Beatles and the sad story of Linda and Paul’s adopted daughter Heather plus anecdotes about their eccentric life in London, numerous drug bust stories; and revelations about his relationship with Yoko Ono and his drinking.

Although there have been previous biographies of Paul McCartney, none tell the full story as well as FAB.

Howard Sounes is well known as an authoritative biographer. His work on Rose and Fred West (Fred & Rose) sold nearly 300,000 copies and his biography of Bob Dylan (Down the Highway) revealed many things about Dylan that were previously unknown - including his second marriage! Sounes, originally a news journalist, also writes history and true crime. He currently lives in London.

Internet Censorship Victory!

August 7th 2010 01:57
Late last night the Australian Coalition announced it won't be voting for an internet filter that censors the web. This comes after the Australian Government responded to the Get Up! campaign by deferring the filter until 2012 (with the likelihood that the filter will never come back in its current form).

With independent Senator Nick Xenophon, the Greens and now the Coalition all walking away from the ineffective policy of censoring the internet, there is now no way for the Senate to pass this scheme.

Thank you for being a part of this movement!
the GetUp Team

Check out what we did together HERE and hear about the ongoing global fight HERE.

We've known all along that a system of internet censorship that missed the vast majority of unwanted content, would encourage the outsourcing of parenting and limit our online freedoms.

And we've been joined in these endeavours by our friends at Electronic Frontiers Australia and literally thousands of campaigners in a grassroots movement.

But firewalls, monitoring and governments blocking websites was never just an Australian problem. With our victory comes the realisation that social movements in Iran, China and Burma are still fighting for their political freedoms online. In fact, thirty percent of the world's population live in regimes that block access to parts of the internet.

Responsibility falls on us, on this side of the firewall, to help our friends who are forced to live with censored internet and the axing of their political freedoms. That's why, in partnership with our friends at global campaigning group Avaaz, we've gotten behind a worldwide anti-internet censorship movement -- AccessNow. Access provides ways for you to provide your voice, your bandwidth and your resources to continue the global flight.

Today's announcement is a real example of the power of an organised, mature, online movement. Indeed it was new technology and the power of online campaigning, which was itself at risk from internet filtering, that brought this campaign to the masses.

P.S. It's an historic day for our democracy, as the headlines from Canberra read: "GetUp! High Court win overturns Howard's electoral laws." More to come on this HUGE victory...

GUERRILLA POETS PLOT CBD TAKE-OVER!

August 2nd 2010 05:17

A guerrilla word army is being formed on Tuesday 3 August, 11:30am at Stanley Street Station, East Sydney (cnr of Crown and Stanley Streets) when ten word artists will be revealed at the movement’s psychogeographic home-base, following a national call for word troopers to compete. The chosen will form a squad set to hit Sydney’s CBD with random acts of poetry from late August.

Part of the seventh annual Australian Poetry Festival (3-4 Sept) with the support of the City of Sydney, the army is led by Sydney creative team Token Imagination , a.k.a Jess Cook, Raymond Nedziak and Omar Hamwi.

Renowned street poets and headliners at the Festival, Tom Keily and Candy Royalle will work up some live word art at The Station for the announcement of the 10 winners – a public event. This is a great chance to catch Keily, part of the Love Lawn Crew and one of Australia’s leading street poets; and Royalle, a hip-hop, electronic artist famed for her passionate lyrics; kick start the Guerrilla Poets into action.

Stanley Street Station will be transformed with the installation of 800 colourful gorillas and large versions of the poetry speech bubble offering a sneak preview of the forthcoming strike. The Station will also launch their cheeky guerrilla menu – reviving elements of the Nuyorican Poet’s Café in NYC (circa 1973) – home to poets, rappers and spoken word artists.

Available during August and September, The Station’s very own Naked Lunch (three courses $40 or individually) honouring the film/ novel based on famous American Beatnik poet Allen Ginsberg's 1958 manuscript, lets you chew the fat literally with a few key guerilla poets to fully enjoy the experience.

Tuck into A homage to Mr Ginsberg ($12) - fresh salad of wild leaves, nuts, fruit, flaxseed dressing & shoots; The Patti Smith ($24), for the godmother of the spoken word punk movement - stir-fried vegetables, roots, leaves, nuts and a little chicken in a spicy sauce with rice; to finish up with sweet treat For you, My H. Rollins…($10) ‘cause we all know he’s a sweetie inside... banana and apple crumble served with ice cream & vanilla custard.

For those in need of the hard stuff, down your existential worries with The Kerouac ($16) - Absinthe, Creme de Cassis, cloudy apple juice, fresh mint - a tribute to literary iconoclast, American novelist, Jack Kerouac. “The poet died of the bottle at 47, but the king of the beat generation sure could write,” says the Station’s manager Bec Foley.

Jess Cook, Guerrilla Poetry’s founder says “the winning poets announced at Stanley Street will have their speech bubbles duplicated to make 100 bubbles per poet, which we’ll be planting all over, fast paced and covert.”

“The Guerrilla’s mission is to perpetrate the urbanscape and provide public access to poetry, with finders free to pick up artworks and take them away as a keepsake or simply transport to a destination of their choice,” she says.

Termed ‘temporary graffiti installations’, the movement follows a public art trend currently sweeping Europe and the States; and brings interactive, transportable and fun art to Sydneysiders, to discover and enjoy at their leisure.

Join the guerrilla movement and front up Tuesday 3 August at 11:30am at Stanley Street Station, East Sydney to find out more.

THE SOUNDS OF WINTERLAND HEAT UP CARRIAGEWORKS’ NIGHTS

A series of 18 free live music events featuring over 100 local and emerging artists

There’s no excuse not to make the most of the winter nights (6-10pm) this July, with a massive line-up of free live and themed music nights at CarriageWorks as part of Sydney’s cutting edge arts centre’s first-ever Winterland festival (5-31 July, 2010).

Slowdowns
Get off the couch and down to Eveleigh for Sydney’s biggest indie music, arts, food, and skating winter festival, to check out some of Sydney’s newest and coolest emerging bands, or hit the ice for Winterland’s evening skate sessions to cool tunes. Skate/dance the night away under CarriageWorks giant disco ball and hear the hottest bands and DJs heart-warming sounds heating up the wintry nights throughout July.

Highlights of Winterland’s hot live showcase include indigenous country and western duo Stiff Gins, pop/folk singer Rosie Catalano, indie/folk inspired band The Preachers, acoustic crew Leroy Lee, alt country cowboy band The Slowdowns, and Ray Mann the troubadours of soul.

Every Thursday night emerging and established bands will provide the sounds of winter. Themed nights include alt country (8 July) with the likes of Sydney newcomers tipped the 'next big thing' - The Preachers, old timey hillbilly band The Lurkers, fiddle fuelled gypsy pop group Wil Massey and The Ghost Trio, and singer/songwriter Charlie Trindall.

Winterland goes unplugged with an acoustic/folk night (15 July) staring Triple J Unearthed’s winner Leroy Lee, and Rosie Catalano, alongside mellow sounds of indie folk artists Kate Duffy, Frontiers in Photography, and Quiet Titans.

A jazz and blues night (22 July) explores a smooth mix of jazz-funk and soulful grooves with The John Hardaker Direction and Charlotte Jane. And 2SER presents the final Thursday night (29 July) at Winterland with Sydney’s hottest new and unsigned bands.

Friday nights are all about fending off the cold with a little disco fever! A Disco on Ice, complete with giant disco ball, and music from Future Classic DJs kicks off 9 July with Arithmatix!, the disco alias of Sydney DJ Michael Di Francesco - one of the first artists Future Classic ever released on their record label. Spruce Lee hits the decks 16 July with blistering dance floor bombs and heartfelt soul jams. Spruce Lee has remixed local heroes Architecture in Helsinki and legendary Bagraiders, occasionally breaking out his alter ego Toni Toni on the mic while he's DJing – here’s hoping. Loin Brothers - Long John Saliva and Paradise Lost's DJ Silvio join Winterland (23 July); and Sydney DJ Simon Caldwell ( 30 July) plays the final night – he’s worked with the highest order of international talent including artists like Grace Jones, Normay Jay and James Brown.

Saturday nights headline with live music from Feral Media (9 July) featuring wintery soundscapes and warm beats created by a number of leading electronic and ambient musicians - Vorad Fils, Gentleforce, Broken Chip, Textile Audio and Underlapper. Music for Trees (17 July) – a not for profit group who plant trees from money raised at their gigs - showcases live sets from Ray Mann, The Slowdowns, Stiff Gins, The Delroys and The Anon Anons. Karaoke night, with host Tim Jackman, (24 July) is a fun night to pick your favourite tunes and sing the night away - with duets, harmonised backing singers, support dancers and personal groupies welcome.

Winterland finishes up on 31 July with Oxfam Australia's Exchange for Change event where local bands play during a mass clothing exchange. Bring clothing to swap, participate in a hands-on workshop, and listen to a series of talks and panel discussions about labour rights and ethical fashion alongside an ethical fashion parade.

Winterland brings all the magic of a European winter festival to Sydney’s inner west, with loads of fun activities for all ages. Throughout July, the old Eveleigh rail yards will transform with a dazzling indoor ice rink, live music, designer art markets curated by The Finders Keepers team, food stalls serving alpine cuisine, dancing and more to get everyone out and about during the chillier days.

Admission to Winterland is free, and the ice skating rink will be open and in action during the music nights every week, making Winterland the perfect after-work/weekend hang-out for colleagues, friends, and love-birds. Entry onto the ice rink is the cheapest in Sydney - book a session now to ensure your place on the ice (head to www.winterland.com.au – group bookings available).

Winterland is the newest and coolest event on Sydney’s social and school holiday calendar. Winterland offers fun, fresh, low-cost winter activities that will keep visitors of all ages warm and fuzzy throughout July. Embrace the winter atmosphere and be warmed by the sweet aroma of roasting chestnuts, thick Italian hot chocolate, and spicy bratwurst. There won’t be a dull moment - get down to CarriageWorks and get amongst it.

FRIDAY NIGHTS - is a disco on ice, complete with giant disco ball and music from Future Classic DJ’s. Future Classic is record label, music publisher and touring agency based in Sydney. www.futureclassic.com.au.

9 July, Arithmatix is the disco alias of Michael Di Francesco, a well travelled Sydney native who was one of the first artists that Future Classic ever released on their record label. An in demand studio wizz playing in a number of different bands and production outfits, Michael has played with top notch artists like Jamie Lidell and has recently remixed electro-disco favourites Dragonette and Mario Basanov.

16 July, Spruce Lee Having remixed local heroes Architecture in Helsinki and Bagraiders amongst others, Spruce Lee's skills in the studio are well documented. Though we get most excited when Spruce pulls out his Toni Toni Lee persona and gets on the mic while he's DJing. Expect an eclectic selection of tunes ranging from blistering dancefloor bombs through to heartfelt soul jams and hopefully an appearance from Toni Toni on the mic.

23 July, Lion Brothers are Long John Saliva and Paradise Lost's DJ Silvio. Rumored to have been raised in the backroom of a Sydney leather club, a diet of strobe lighting and throbbing sub bass fuzzy disco guitars and exotic synthesizers make up the Loins' musical arsenal. Also releasing on Future Classic, the Loin Brothers have vinyl singles out to date both with heavy international praise and big names remixes from the likes of LA disco fiend Woolfy and London based Mock & Toof.

30 July, Simon Caldwell is one of a handful of Australian DJ's whose name adds a certain integrity to an event. Playing records to radio listeners and dancing party people alike since the early 90's, Simon is a founding member of the infamous Mad Racket collective, a party that has been going from strength to strength for over 11 years. Simon has played alongside the highest order of international talent including artists like Grace Jones, Normay Jay and James Brown and is a welcome guest to round out the July Disco On Ice roster.

Having consistently taken the nation’s electronic music culture to brave new heights for well over a decade, Future Entertainment’s new-look website marks yet another milestone in the company’s history and offers a fun, fresh and exciting new online experience.

Taking its already highly successful and popular web presence to the next level, Future’s new site is a comprehensive information portal that’s guaranteed to have local and international music fans entertained and enthralled online for hours on end!

Previously loaded with key event announcements, reviews, photos, videos and competitions, the new site is jam-packed with a wealth of extra content that’s designed to bring fans closer to their favourite artists and deeper into the scene.

From streaming video content on an all-new Future TV portal and exclusive DJ podcasts, to in-depth artist interviews, album reviews, a new-look newsletter and up to the minute global music news; www.futureentertainment.com.au is destined to be bookmarked and added to the favourites of discerning fans who can’t get enough of their favourite acts, parties and big nights out.

Importantly, for the very first time the new site also takes visitors well beyond the realms of Future Entertainment events and the boundaries of music and dance culture.

With the inclusion of mainstream pop culture news, film reviews, celebrity gossip and fashion updates, if it’s hot, happening, breaking or epic failing, then www.futureentertainment.com.au will let the planet know. There’s truly something for everyone …

:::: To celebrate the launch of the site, Future Entertainment is offering the opportunity to win a trip for 2 to L.A. And stay 5 nights at the ultra chic Standard Hotel in West Hollywood. Plus get the VIP treatment from Steve Aoki at his infamous Dim Mak Tuesday party at Cinespace. ::::
