John Williamson, the church, Johnny Young, Models and The Loved Ones announced as Inductees and RocKwiz Format Announced

It's a wonderful club that is growing bigger each year. Now this year a total of five inductees will join the ranks of those illustrious artists already inducted into the ARIA HALL OF FAME, a list that includes bona fide music legends such as AC/DC, Dame Joan Sutherland, Olivia Newton John, Johnny O’Keefe, Paul Kelly, John Farnham, INXS, Slim Dusty, Jimmy Little and many more.

The ARIA HALL OF FAME continues to be an important fixture on the Australian music industry calendar honouring those artists whose musical achievements have had a significant impact in Australia, and around the world.

ARIA Chairman and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Music Entertainment Australia & NZ Denis Handlin, AM said, “It’s very exciting to be again celebrating the extraordinary history of Australian popular music and the many incredible artists who have made it so special. We are delighted to induct such a distinguished group of Australian artists into the ARIA Hall of Fame. Between them there are many years of unforgettable music history, including the 40th career anniversary of John Williamson and the 30-year anniversary of the church. We are proud to honour them all.”

For the first time since it began in 2005 as a standalone event, the ARIA HALL OF FAME will be staged in Sydney at the Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday, 27 October, 2010. It will also, for the first time, be broadcast on free to air television on SBS’ RocKwiz.

"SBS is thrilled to be the new broadcast partner for the ARIA Hall of Fame, honouring musical brilliance from around the country. It’s a true testament to the popularity of Rockwiz that we have been asked to come on board to present this prestigious event" said Matt Campbell, Director of Television and Online Content, SBS.

For 2010, ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) is proud to announce the impending induction of five distinct and authentic Australian music voices into the HALL OF FAME – John Williamson, Models, Johnny Young, The Loved Ones and the church. All of these artists are ingrained in Australia's history as much as its future and now 2010 is the year to celebrate their contribution.

Call him what you want, Mallee Boy, True Blue or just plain Fair Dinkum, there is no denying that after four decades in the music industry, ex farmer John Williamson is an Australian icon. Over the course of his long career, he has received 3 ARIA Awards and 24 Golden Guitars, as well as MO Awards, APRA Awards, Platinum and Gold albums, and had over 4 million album sales, and the list goes on. In fact, his resume and catalogue would make any songwriter envious; not bad for a kid from Quambatook in Victoria's Mallee country. It was 4 June, 1970, that John Williamson made his debut. On the talent quest TV show, ‘New Faces’, Williamson competed with his self-penned and still much loved "silly song", Old Man Emu. He won, and since then has inspired pride in country, love of land and touched millions. John Williamson is famous for stirring classics such as Cootamundra Wattle, Raining On The Rock, Salisbury Street, Galleries Of Pink Galahs and public outcries like Rip Rip Woodchip and A Flag Of Our Own as well as anthemic songs like True Blue and Glory To Australia to name but a few. In one of the toughest industries, he has not only survived but soared. This year John Williamson will celebrate a milestone regarded as a significant achievement in the entertainment industry, 40 years of success, four decades of hits, of celebrity and of sharing his love of Australia and poetry in song with its people. He and his emu can both celebrate.

On his impending induction, John Williamson said, ‘I am delighted about the news that I will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2010. In my 40th year in the industry, I feel like I’m probably one of the oldest to be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. It’s probably because I was a one-hit screamer for thirteen years after Old Man Emu! Forty years of songs hasn’t been without its disappointments - the first ten I had no idea where I was going, but the last thirty have been truly rewarding. And I’m proud that my songs have struck a chord with everyday Aussies. They were written for them. I love this beautiful big country; it inspires me. And there will always be battlers out there forging a living against the odds. I will continue to write about them for as long as I can.”

Singer, songwriter, musician and television icon Johnny Young is set to join the ARIA Hall of Fame family. His illustrious career started in Perth as a teen star at the local stomp dances. Johnny’s recording career began with the national Number 1 hits Step Back and Caralyn. He then moved to Melbourne to take over the role of compere of ‘The Go Show’. His early music television era also included production credits for ‘Happening 70’, ‘The King of Pop’ Awards and the ‘Australian Popular Song Festival’, which were stamped with the magic of ‘Johnny Young’. Then, along came Young Talent Time where for two decades Johnny Young reigned as host and mentor of stars like Tina Arena, Danni Minogue, Jane Scali, Jamie Redfern, Debra Byrne, Denis Walter and many more. Johnny has also excelled as a master songwriter. From John’s pen came songs for stars like Herman’s Hermits, The Seekers, Russell Morris, Normie Rowe, Ronnie Burns, Debra Byrne and many others. These include The Real Thing, Smiley and The Girl That I Love. After Young Talent Time, Johnny Young earned an amazing reputation as one of Australia’s strongest live acts and in ten years, he has performed countless shows Australia wide with his band, as well as shows with Normie Rowe and Marcie Jones in their successful ‘Legends of Oz Rock’ club showcase. Johnny Young continues to combine his successful touring circuit and life as host of the breakfast show on 6IX Perth. With a successful career spanning 40 years of Australian show business Johnny Young remains an integral contributor to Australia’s rock and roll history.

On receiving the news of his imminent induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame, Johnny Young said, “I have always felt like the luckiest kid on the block to be able to continue working in the music industry for 50 years in so many areas when basically I am just a rock and roller. To receive this honor is the cherry on an amazing cake. I am very grateful to all those who supported and encouraged me”.

Formed in Melbourne in 1965, The Loved Ones were Gerry Humphreys, Ian Clyne and Kim Lynch. They had previously been members of a youthful "Trad Jazz" band, the Red Onions Jazz Band, in which Humphreys, Lynch and Clyne played clarinet, tuba and piano respectively. They then recruited drummer Gavin Anderson and ex-Wild Cherries guitarist Rob Lovett to round out their line-up. They quickly rose to prominence in the local club scene, renowned for their exciting live act, which many compared to the Rolling Stones and Animals. The group's visual impact was heightened by their striking op-shop-mod stage attire and the growling, blues-influenced baritone voice of Humphreys, who is widely acknowledged as one of Australia's finest male pop-rock vocalists. The Loved Ones was the first Australian pop band to use electric piano as part of its regular stage set-up, and their distinctive keyboard-based sound set them apart from most of their contemporaries. They signed to the In Records label (a subsidiary of W&G Records) and shot to national prominence, scoring a major Australian hit with The Loved One, which reached Number 2 on the Australian Top 40 singles charts in 1966 (the song was an Australian hit again in 1981 when covered by INXS). Their second single for In Records, Everlovin' Man, reached Number 9 on the Australian Top 40 singles charts, also in 1966. Sad Dark Eyes, and a reworking of Fats Domino’s Blueberry Hill followed this. Pianist and musical director Ian Clyne left the group and moved to Sydney and was replaced by Treva Richards. They released an album in 1967 titled Magic Box, a collection of their singles, standards and original songs. The Loved Ones split later that year in October, just two years after they were formed. Magic Box is considered a classic recording and to this day in Australia it enjoys cult status and has reportedly never been out-of-print since it was released. The band reformed for one live tour in 1987 with Melbourne session drummer Peter Luscombe sitting in for Gavin Anderson. The album Live at Blueberry Hill followed, on Mushroom Records. The Loved Ones are about to step into the spotlight once more with their induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

A humbled The Loved Ones, on hearing of their imminent induction, said “We were kids who discovered we could actually write and play music we believed in ..... and other kids liked it too”.

Considered to be one of the pioneers of post punk and new wave in Australia, Models formed in Melbourne in 1978. The original line-up comprised Sean Kelly (vocals, guitar), Pierre Sutcliffe (bass), Ash Wednesday (synthesizer), and John Friedenfelds (drums). After only a handful of gigs Mark Ferrie was drafted in on bass in early '79. Andrew Duffield, on keyboards and electronica, replaced Ash Wednesday later that same year. The band released a couple of independent singles but was signed to Mushroom Records on the strength of their live performances and fanatical live following. Their self produced debut LP Alphabravocharliedeltaechofox trotgolf was released in 1980. The fresh sounds of its quirky, angular pop would be refined on their 1981 mini album Cut Lunch, which introduced Buster Stiggs on drums. Since its inception, the band had been sought out as an opening act for visiting international bands. The Stranglers, The Ramones, XTC and the B52s were amongst the many overseas tourists that Models supported in their early days. In 1982, Models were joined by James Freud on bass and Barton Price on drums and they released the single On, produced by Lobby Lloyd. 1983 saw the release of The Pleasure Of Your Company featuring the single I Hear Motion. It was Models first real commercial success and helped them score the prestigious support slot for David Bowie's 'Serious Moonlight' tour of Australia & New Zealand. In 1985, Roger Mason replaced Andrew Duffield and saxophonist James Valentine also joined the band. Models started to alter their sound as well, becoming more mainstream and danceable. The band was rewarded with their first big hit, Barbados in 1985, which climbed to number two on the national charts. The band's next single, Out of Mind Out of Sight, produced by Mark Opitz, skyrocketed straight to the top and even landed at number 36 on the American Billboard charts. Their final album, Media (1986) produced by Opitz and Julian Mendehlson, was released and spawned the singles Evolution, Let's Kiss and Hold On. In December 1986 and January 1987, the Models embarked on the massive 'Australian Made' tour, sharing the stage with INXS, Divinyls, Jimmy Barnes, Mental As Anything, The Saints and The Triffids. The changes in line-up and artistic direction that would have compromised lesser acts, have made Models a compelling and exciting band whose creativity and momentum has kept them at the forefront of the Australian music industry. In 1988, the band went into hiatus but has re-grouped periodically over the years to thrill their legion of fans with their unmistakable sound.

Sean Kelly from Models spoke on behalf of the band when he said "We're very excited. Most musicians would dream of this kind of acknowledgement and recognition. It's a huge honour!"

With their unique and distinctive guitar sounds and lyrics forever inspiring imagination, the church have grown without compromise into one of the most well-respected rock groups amongst peers and fans the world over. Formed in Sydney in 1980, the church has always been in a parallel orbit to the pop world, an utterly engaging art-rock trip that is far easier to experience than to describe. From the debut album Of Skins and Hearts (with national hit The Unguarded Moment) to the artistically and commercially successful Starfish (with the world-wide recognised hit Under the Milky Way and guitar driven Reptile), and iconic songs such as Almost With You and When You Were Mine through to 2009's lush, organic masterpiece Untitled #23 (the album that Rolling Stone Australia gave an unprecedented 5 star review), bassist and lead vocalist Steve Kilbey, guitarists Peter Koppes and Marty Willson-Piper and drummer/producer Tim Powles have continued through three whole decades to pleasure their fans with a unerring sense of space, melody, beat driven prose and sonic charm. Of the church, legendary music writer and fan David Fricke wrote “At its most compelling, the band scrambles the real and the surreal with ease, rattling its stately guitarchitecture with howling north-wind echo and the troubled undertow of Kilbey’s enigmatic lyrics. It’s like being in the middle of a recurring but constantly evolving dream where only the faces remain the same.” A combination of chemistry, talent and desire for excellence has found the church in 2010 with the luxury of reflecting on their huge body of work, having never before stopped long enough to rest on any laurels. On their 30th anniversary the church continue to redefine what a rock band should be whether performing live or in the studio. ARIA is proud to induct them into the Hall of Fame.

On behalf of the church, Steve Kilbey said "We were all thrilled to hear of our impending induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame. To be honoured by an industry that we love being a part of, and to be in the Hall of Fame alongside bands that we’ve been fans of ourselves, is more than we ever expected”

In exciting news, organisors of the ARIA Hall of Fame can announce details of a brand new broadcast partnership with SBS Television’s much loved music trivia program RocKwiz. Both entities are about celebrating the contributions made to the vibrant industry we have today by Australia’s most successful and legendary musical artists. THE TEMPER TRAP
DEBUT ALBUM CONDITIONS REACHES PLATINUM!

Whilst it may come as no surprise to the Australian music loving public, it is with great pride and delight that The Temper Trap announce their debut album Conditions as having achieved platinum sales in Australia.

The widely acclaimed album spawned multiple hit singles, including Platinum single ‘Sweet Disposition’ and ‘Love Lost’ - both of which are currently in the ARIA Top 40. It debuted at Number 9 in the ARIA Top 50 Albums chart and is still currently in the Top 20 after forty five weeks on the chart.

The Temper Trap recently performed at the illustrious Coachella music festival in California, drawing a massive crowd and captivating the audience with ease and charm.

The band has also been confirmed to play at additional U.S. festival heavyweights Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, U.K. based Glastonbury and our very own Splendour in the Grass and are currently on tour across Europe and North America. Their recent and upcoming tour dates are all testament to their rapidly growing reputation as mesmerising live performers.

This July sees them returning to our shores for a tour of Australia & New Zealand and local fans and critics can’t hardly wait.

Often called 'The Ones to Watch,' Welsh three piece band The Joy Formidable are bringing their dreamy sound to The Temper Trap's Australian tour along with AMP Red Bull Award winners Oh Mercy. The Auckland performance will be opened by New Zealand natives The Naked and Famous.

The Temper Trap's Perth, Melbourne and Sydney shows have sold out and whilst tickets to their Adelaide and Auckland performances are still available now, these shows are sure to follow suit.

THE TEMPER TRAP
RETURN TO AUSTRALIA & NZ FOR JULY 2010 HEADLINE TOUR

At the start of this year The Temper Trap gave Australian and New Zealand audiences a taste of why they were one of the most talked about bands in the world last year with standout performances across a series of summer festivals. Fans clamoured for more and the band paid attention, making room in a hectic worldwide tour for July 2010 dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Auckland.

2010 is already shaping up to be a busy one, with The Temper Trap currently on tour across America. Conditions is sitting at #4 on the Billboard Heatseeker chart, while some of the biggest radio stations in the USA have set Sweet Disposition to high rotation. The buzz around the band is audible with a sold out six week US tour and appearances at SXSW, Coachella and Bonnaroo sure to earn the band even more supporters. Notably US music industry bible Billboard Magazine profiled the band in a double page ‘Happening Now’ feature in their February 20 issue, noting “The Temper Trap are shaping up to be the next big thing from Down Under.”

The UK story also continues to grow from their Top Ten hit with Sweet Disposition last year, with the band selling over 33,000 tickets to their UK tour, including an impressive three nights at Shepherds Bush Empire. The band are also headlining the Wireless Festival, as well as performing at T In The Park and Roskilde festivals.

Worldwide sales of Sweet Disposition have now exceeded 500,000, while album sales for Conditions have tipped over the 300,000 mark.

If The Temper Trap’s festival performances were mass sing-a-longs, then these July shows are set to take The Temper Trap to a whole new level with four acclaimed singles now under the band’s belts. Soaring Platinum hit Sweet Disposition, rocking tracks Science of Fear and Fader and the latest anthemic offering Love Lost are sure crowd favourites, while album Conditions has become a staple on iPods and radios across both countries.

With their album fast approaching Platinum sales in Australia there’s little doubt that The Temper Trap have won the hearts of music fans. Significantly though, the band have delivered more than just a standout debut album, with music critics praising the quality and energy of the band’s live performances.

“The Temper Trap execute their set perfectly…” J Mag, Australia, Feb 2010

““Sweet Disposition”…had the crowd swaying in unison and singing along” Undertherader.co.nz, New Zealand, Jan 15, 2010

“When the band broke into their signature hit Sweet Disposition the sardined mass roared and jumped up and down despite the searing heat.” Daily Telegraph, Sydney, Jan 23, 2010
“Album stand-outs Fader, Love Lost, Down River, Science of Fear and Sweet Disposition were all monster singalongs.” The Age, Melbourne, Jan 08, 2010

“The Temper Trap kicked off the day with a bang…[the band] have the energy and skill of bands with twice the stage experience.” 3 News, New Zealand, Jan 15, 2010

“Every year one band is too popular for the stage they’re on. This year it was Melbourne’s The Temper Trap…the reaction to British Top 10 hit Sweet Disposition was one of the first moments of the day, but most tracks from their debut album Conditions were singalongs including the stunning Love Lost.” Herald Sun, Melbourne, Jan 27, 2010

There’s little doubt that The Temper Trap’s upcoming July concerts are going to be must-sees on the 2010 concert calendar. Tickets for Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Auckland go on sale on Monday 29 March at 9am local time.

Pre-sale tickets will be available via frontiertouring.com from noon AEDT Thursday 25 March to noon AEDT Friday 26 March.

Tame Impala | May Tour

TAME IMPALA
INNERSPEAKER

DEBUT ALBUM OUT MAY 21 & NATIONAL TOUR

Modular announces that West Coast sonic wanderers Tame Impala will unveil their debut album InnerSpeaker on May 21, and are taking to the road in May for a National Tour.

It will be the first time much of the record is played live to an unsuspecting public and will showcase the gloriously dazzling results of one of planet earth’s most exciting bands absolutely going to town on their debut long player.

Following on from their debut, self-titled EP, InnerSpeaker is Tame Impala's chance to paint a far more extensive picture than before, and sure enough it redrafts the entire Tame Impala world as we knew it, into an explosive cosmic wonderland of ecstatic harmony and perfectly accessible journeys into inner space.

Recorded and produced by the band's own Kevin Parker with Death In Vegas’s Tim Holmes on the engineer duties, in an enormous mansion with 180 degree views of the Indian Ocean in the middle of buttfuck nowhere a few hours south of Perth, InnerSpeaker is ensconced with a kind of inspired vastness not dislike the place it was made.

It was then mixed in a completely different kind of nowhere, a log cabin surrounded by snow and deer in upstate New York, by renowned sonic maverick Dave Fridmann (MGMT / Flaming Lips).

Click HERE for your first glimpse inside the debut album, where magic and music abounds. with plenty more where that came from.

The resultant record will first be revealed with the single, Solitude Is Bliss, a joyous summertime romp through fields of honeyed harmony and crispy good times and is just the very tip of the amorphous cosmos that is InnerSpeaker.

InnerSpeaker is available for pre-order now from the Modular Shop (for local & international orders) and from Get Music in digital & physical formats (for Australians only).

Or as a special offer to live show fans, you will have an opportunity to pre-order the album with tickets purchased to the May National Tour.

BATRIDER are back!

March 28th 2010 07:50
Batrider are back in Australia following 2 years of gigs, new friends, wild times and happy accidents in foreign lands. After splitting time between London sublets and European adventures, and losing their USA touring virginity the equivalent of behind a bush at a party when you’re 16, Batrider have now decided to settle in... Adelaide. YES ADELAIDE! And with barely enough time to wash the lint-of-a-thousand-couches from their tired bodies, Batrider are hitting the road again embarking on their first Australian tour in years.

The Batrider Beaks Tour takes the band’s fourth release Why We Cant Be Together (2009) around their adopted home of Australia, and also sees the release of a limited run of live recordings made while in the USA.

The new live record reflects the band’s current 3-piece incarnation and is the most direct, dynamic, melodic, and unique to date. Those familiar with Batrider’s sound will find its most compelling qualities more than intact, with the guitar and vocals of Sarah Mary Chadwick marking themselves as more clamourous and emotive than ever, with Steph Crase (Birth Glow, No Through Road) on drums and summery melancholic harmonies, and Sam Featherstone holding the whole mess together on bass.

Nonetheless, it wouldn’t really be fair to let you assume that Batrider aren’t still really really loud, and quite possibly one of the most viscerally confronting bands you’ll ever experience live. Would it?

2010 is another big year for Batrider with a new release to add to their now extensive back catalogue, reconnecting with both Australian and New Zealand watering holes, not to
mention enjoying the plethora of exciting tourist locations Adelaide has to offer. Wink.

BOB BROZMAN
Par Avion : Global Guitar Adventures

Bob Brozman's prodigious talents and enormous generosity of spirit combined with his seemingly inexhaustible desire to learn, explore, share, collaborate and create are legendary within the international music industry. A tireless global touring and recording artist and producer, Bob's career has spanned over 35 years and 60 countries.

Since Bob's last visit to Australia, he has covered thousands of miles on tour, stopping in California only long enough to host his California music seminars to students from around the world. He was also honoured to receive the Acoustic Guitar Magazine award for Number1 Acoustic Slide guitarist.

A linguist, anthropologist and ethnomusicologist, this American instrumental wizard was an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Contemporary Music Studies at Macquarie University in Sydney - under whose auspices Bob completed the acclaimed Songs of the Volcano/PNG project in 2004.

Recently, he has been collaborating on new guitar designs with National Resophonic Guitar Company, and recorded the soundtrack for the documentary film Hori Smoku - Sailor Jerry, a film about the father of modern tattooing, who worked in Hawaii; thus seeing Bob record music inspired by the vintage Hawaiian sounds that he long ago mastered. As always, Bob has many other new projects cooking, including an Irish collaboration out in September, and a project with a 13 piece French Gypsy big band in the works as well.

But before all that, Brozman returns to Australia for a series of East Coast performances, kicking off at the Apollo Bay Music Festival in late March, this time armed with a new DVD; PAR AVION Global Guitar Adventures.

The DVD features never before seen 1978 footage, extracts of Bob’s 1980’s encounter and recordings with the legendary Tau Moe Family, right up to his more recent adventures with musicians in Okinawa, Reunion Island, Guinea, Hawaii, Papua New Guinea, and other locales, encapsulating Bob's unusual life and work.

The DVD will be a must have for Brozman's many fans, and will be available from his shows.

The Slew

February 3rd 2010 14:31
In one of the most exciting collaborations to grace the stage in years, Canadian turntable masters Kid Koala and Dynomite D team up with former Wolfmother crew Chris Ross and Myles Heskett to create a psych/heavy-rock-drenched project The Slew.

The Slew’s album ‘100%’ is out now through Ninja Tune/Inertia.

Kid Koala proudly presents The Slew Live featuring a hefty six turntables with Chris and Myles from Wolfmother on bass and drums. Hitting up major capital cities across Australia in May, it’s rock turntablism like you’ve never seen it before.

Four and a half years ago, Eric San (aka Kid Koala) and Dylan J. Frombach (aka Dynomite D) started working on a rock record. The pair, who met on the Beastie Boys tour in 1998, had been approached to soundtrack a documentary feature film. The film was eventually abandoned, but with Mario Caldato (longtime producer for Beastie Boys) on board for mixing, San and Frombach were already deep into the psych rock-influenced score and there was no turning back.

Teaming up with Chris Ross and Myles Heskett – the former rhythm section of Grammy Award-winning band Wolfmother – The Slew set out to put together a full-blown rock band experience to do justice to the material in a live setting. And justice was served: The truly excessive six turntables, drum, bass, keyboard and wall of amps that made their way across North America this October made for a full-on raw, pummeling rock experience. The Slew bring attitude back to the turntable unlike anything you’ve ever heard.

Of Di Meola, Guitar historian Robert Lynch said: “In the history of the electric guitar, no one figure has done more to advance the instrument in a purely technical manner than Al Di Meola. His total command of the various styles and scales is simply mind-boggling.”

Martin Taylor & Alison Burns | Tour

February 18th 2009 06:20
INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED AND GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING GUITARIST MARTIN TAYLOR TO TOUR AUSTRALIA WITH UK'S FASTEST RISING JAZZ SINGER ALISON BURNS IN MARCH 2009

When Grammy award winning guitarist Martin Taylor (pictured), who has collaborated with great singers including Peggy Lee, Martin Carthy, Jamie Cullum, Dionne Warwick and Bryn Terfel, chose to record a special duo album with a vocalist he chose the UKs fastest rising jazz singer Alison Burns.
Martin Taylor

MARTIN TAYLOR MBE

Award winning guitarist MARTIN TAYLOR has established a unique musical career as an internationally acclaimed musician, and his inimitable style has seen him recognized as the world's foremost exponent of solo jazz guitar playing. Although completely self taught, he has enjoyed a remarkable musical career spanning across four decades, and during that time has invented and developed a way of playing the guitar that is admired, and often imitated, by guitarists all over the world.

As well as being a true guitar innovator, he is also a master concert performer, dazzling audiences with his solo shows, which combine virtuosity, emotion, humor, with a strong stage presence. He spends much of the year traveling the world, playing in concert halls in Europe, North America, Japan, Asia, and Australasia. As well as his solo concerts and recordings, he has also collaborated with musicians from many different musical genre including Stephane Grappelli, Chet Atkins, Bill Wyman, Dionne Warwick, Sacha Distel, Bryn Terfel and Jamie Cullum.

From 1979 to 1989 he toured the world and recorded over 20 albums with the French jazz violin legend STEPHANE GRAPPELLI. Monsieur Grappelli described him as Rich in talent and elegance, he's a great artist.

In 2002, he was appointed MBE For Services to Jazz Music, in The Queen's Birthday Honors List, which he received personally from Her Majesty the Queen at an investiture at Buckingham Palace.

In 2007 he recieved the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Heart of Jazz Award in recognition of his career in music, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the North Wales Jazz Guitar Festival for his Contribution to Jazz Guitar Worldwide and was voted Best Guitarist in the British Jazz Awards for a record eleventh time.

When not touring he divides his time between his homes in France and Scotland where he writes music for TV and film.

His autobiography MARTIN TAYLOR - AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A TRAVELLING MUSICIAN and his latest CD/DVD FRETERNITY are available worldwide.

ALISON BURNS

The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work. Surrounded by the surfeit of little girl voices prevalent in jazz today, it's almost a relief to encounter a mature but flexible voice like ALISON BURNS. Beyond the vocal quality is imaginative delivery and interpretation that comes from experience in life as well as extensive touring in the US, UK, Italy and China. TV host Michael Parkinson has declared himself as a fan and her debut album 'Kissing Bug' featuring Guy Barker and David Newton and produced by guitarist MARTIN TAYLOR has received rave reviews. At home in any setting, from festival and theatre stages to small, intimate venues, Alison Burns never fails to touch the audience with her soul-stirring performances.

Born in Scotland, ALISON BURNS grew up drawing inspiration from the recordings of the jazz greats like Sarah Vaughn, Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald. In demand as much abroad as in the UK she has performed concerts in Tokyo, Nashville, New York, Cannes, Capri and Shanghai.

French writer Emile Zola never met ALISON BURNS, and his perceptive quote may seem like an unusual introduction, but it's wholly appropriate for this rising star of the jazz world, and her rather unusual road to success. With the release of her second album 1:AM, a collaboration with world-renowned and multi award-winning jazz guitarist MARTIN TAYLOR, Alison brings her unique interpretation to a combination of traditional jazz standards, classic contemporary songwriting, and an original song which holds particular personal significance. It's a track listing which reflects the Dundee singer's lifetime love affair with music.

“My father was a guitarist and my mum would get into his gigs around Dundee for free by carrying the case...he still carried the guitar! He used to sing to me, numbers by Peggy Lee, Lena Horne, Bessie Smith. That's what I heard around the house. I also used to watch old Hollywood movies and dream of being a singer and actress. We had linoleum flooring in the bathroom, so I used to sprinkle it with salt and try my hand at tap dancing! The first time I sang was trying to pick out harmonies in songs on the radio.”

No matter what else has happened in Alison's life, that involvement with music has run in parallel - only now is it being allowed to take the lead. Life has certainly provided inspiration. As the first female apprentice engineer in the famous Timex watch factory in Dundee, the 16-year-old refused to compromise glamour in the workplace and never forgot her lipstick. The experience showed that she was perfectly capable of holding her own in a man's world.

Other jobs followed (including being sacked from a bingo-calling job) but it was at the age of 21 that Alison realised that her childhood dreams would only be realised if she actually did something about it. The death of her brother Alan, who was serving in the Falklands brought home the reality of a life lived unfulfilled. Alan was very much the inspiration for the lyrics of the original song True on 1AM, which has music written by Martin Taylor.

Still based in Dundee, ALISON BURNS's acting, singing, and presenting career took off. As singer and songwriter in a band called The Rainmates, she tuned down two record deals which just “didn't feel right at the time”. Her first love was still the music she had heard in her childhood, however, and this led to the formation of a three-part female harmony group, The Penny Dainties. Not only did Alison get the group together, it was normal for her to be hanging over a sewing machine in the early hours, making the frocks!

Like every other performer, the days could be empty. However, never one to waste any time, Alison used the days productively and gained a law degree from Dundee University. She practised briefly, but the pull of music was too much and she found herself working in the music business, albeit behind the scenes. For a while, her own music career was put on the back burner, but it's telling that as soon as she turned her attention to jazz singing again, there was instant acclaim. The release of her debut album, Kissing Bug, in March 2007 was received with universal acclaim and became the first album by a Scottish jazz singer to reach the Jazz Top 10. She was lauded by the likes of jazz guru Michael Parkinson who invited ALISON BURNS to play at his hotel. The man himself was in the front row and threw his arms around her as she came off stage.

So far she has packed her bag to perform in far-flung destinations such as Tokyo, Nashville, New York, Cannes, Italy and Shanghai as well as exclusive events for the likes of Virgin Airlines and Sir Terence Conran. She has performed at jazz festivals and venues across the country, with her own group and guesting with Martin Taylor at a number of concerts. It was at these concerts that the idea for 1:AM came about. The recordings of Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass were the inspiration, stripping back the songs to vocal and guitar. Despite the smoky dark eyes and robust sense of humour, there's little of the jazz diva about Alison Burns. As a committed vegetarian, her greatest concern on the road is finding decent food as well as keeping in touch with her husband, family and friends. Venues will be shocked to find the only dressing room request is water and her only real superstition is “always wearing my granny's earrings”. For those who may think that Alison is where she has always wanted to be, that's true up to a point, but looking at her track record, this is obviously just the beginning. “I'd like to tour more and keep adding songs to my repertoire. It would be wonderful to sing with Tony Bennett and Michael Buble. It's also an ambition to sing with strings – I think it’s every singers ambition to sing with strings. I'd also like to write more songs.”

1:AM from ALISON BURNS and MARTIN TAYLOR is released on P3 Records. The album was inspired by the recordings of Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass. On the album, produced by Tony Platt, Alison Burns and Martin Taylor capture the essence of the recordings with just voice and guitar.

In 2009 the duo will hit the road to tour and promote this new album which is produced by legendary record producer Tony Platt (Bob Marley, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Buddy Guy). The tour and album take its inspiration from the Grammy award winning collaboration between Joe Pass & Ella Fitzgerald, mixing repertoire from The Great American Songbook and contemporary material.

1st ANNOUNCEMNT FUTURE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2009

Basement Jaxx XL Recordings, UK

Basement Jaxx are a critically acclaimed UK house music duo, comprised of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe, which rose to popularity in the late 1990s. In 1999, they released their debut album Remedy (featuring singles like "Red Alert", "Rendez Vu" and "Jump N' Shout") to wide acclaim. Their follow up, 2001's Rooty, included singles "Romeo", "Jus 1 Kiss" and the iconic "Where's Your Head At?"; while 2003 saw the lads release Kish Kash - which was recognised at the 47th Grammy awards, winning Buxton and Ratcliffe the inaugural Best Electronic/Dance Album award. In addition to their own work, Basement Jaxx are in-demand remixers. Highlights on this front include "4 My People" by Missy Elliott, "Like I Love You" by Justin Timberlake and "She Wants to Move" by N.E.R.D.

N*E*R*D Star Trak, Virgina Beach, USA

With their digital musical palette and vivid imaginations, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo have taken their hip-hop foundation and un-tethered the bounds of pop, bestowing unsuspecting hit records in almost machine-gun-like succession - whether in rap (Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, et al), R&B (Usher, Babyface), pop (Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake) or rock (No Doubt). But N.E.R.D is not the Neptunes. N.E.R.D is a fly-or-die, thrash-around, do-as-you-will, set-your-soul-on-fire alter-ego that subscribes to no rules, and adheres to no agenda. It is Pharrell, Chad and Shay: a trio whose chemistry allows the uninhibited exploration of the sounds, emotions and impulses of self, society, identity and belonging.

CSS Sub Pop Records, Sao Paulo, Brazil

Bursting out of Sao Paulo in 2003, CSS are a group of friends with an unquenchable thirst for good times and indulgence in all things pop and art. Dropping in 2006, their debut album Cansei de Ser Sexy served up danceable electro/rock songs littered with pop culture and sexual references. Easily translating from online environs to live audiences, they quickly became one of the most in-demand live acts from Europe to Japan. Equal parts dance party, urban circus, and complete chaos, the band's unaffected, unbridled joy when performing is their trademark! A tough, street-ready recreation of the frenetic energy of their live shows, their latest album Donkey is summer's ultimate ride - so get on it!

Etienne De Crecy Solid, France

Deep house DJ/producer Etienne de Crecy was a key figure behind Paris' rise as one of the world's dance music hubs during the 1990s. Born in Lyon, he has peddled his talent under several different guises, including Motorbass, La Chatte Rouge, and Super Discount. His first major undertaking, Motorbass, grabbed a cult following soon after its launch in 1991 and not only alerted the world to the rapidly evolving Parisian dance music scene, but also spawned underground favorites like the Motorbass EP, "Transphunk" single and Pansoul album. An irresistible talent, de Crecy has also served up the legendary Super Discount and Tempovision albums, released countless iconic tunes (including "Prix Choc" and "Am I Wrong?") and remixed the likes of Air and Alex Gopher.

Yacht DFA Records, PORTLAND, OREGON, USA

YACHT is a lot of things. It's kind of a band, but it's mostly a genre-and-media-spanning life project founded and led by American, Jona Bechtolt. Bechtolt and new member Claire L. Evans, make anthemic power jams, play them backwards and soak them in nearly-psychedelic cherry cola! A promiscuous genre-smasher since his adolescence, Bechtolt is indie rock's Timbaland and has plied his unique breed of beat-heavy laptop wizardry to endless collaborations. Evans is a media artist and musician who has presented her cosmic PowerPoint performances at MoMA PS1 and The Kitchen, and has frequently collaborated with Bechtolt since 2004. In 2007 the duo played more than 200 shows in 17 countries around the world (including Australia!) and toured with luminaries like LCD Soundsystem and Architecture in Helsinki.

Steve Angello Size Records, Stockholm, Sweden

When Steve Angello released Woz not Woz with fellow Swede, Eric Prydz, in 2004, things changed forever! Released on CR2 Recordings it single-handedly elevated him to become one of the most in-demand producers, remixers and DJs in the world. A prominent member of the illustrious Swedish House Mafia (with close friends Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell), now, in 2008, he has a wealth of worldwide club hits to his name (including Raining Again, Tell Me Why and Not So Dirty) and runs his own highly successful label, Size Records. DJing every weekend non-stop for the last few years, his diverse sets are notorious for keeping crowds electrified and have scored him thousands of adoring fans across the planet. He's an Australian favourite, and he's back for more!

Sebastian Ingrosso
Refune, Stockholm, Sweden

A notorious member of the all-conquering Swedish House Mafia collective, Sebastian Ingrosso is a masterful musical force to be reckoned with! Launching onto the global scene late last millennium, this prodigious, party-heard DJ/producer is world-renowned for both his sublime skills on decks and in the studio chair. Boasting a myriad of club bombs to his name (including anthems like Echo Vibes, Together, Get Dumb and It's True), he has regularly collaborated with studio-mate and best friend Steve Angello to deliver acclaimed tunes and compilations for the likes of Subliminal and Mixmag, and, to top it all off, is also globally revered for his remixing talents - which have seen him flawlessly re-rub lofty icons like of Deep Dish, Moby and Royskopp.

Markus Schulz Coldharbour, Armada, Berlin, Germany

Markus Schulz
dreams of meeting the world - and the way he's going, this dream just might come true! Currently 13 on the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll, he is a star on the rise and one that's been travelling the world playing his personal brand of dark, moody, melodic trance and meeting as many people as possible. Over the past few years he has crossed the globe countless times; and, via his hugely popular radio show, Global DJ Broadcast, he reaches out to millions with his trademark dark, melodic trance (enriched with beautiful chilled tracks, guitars, and sublime vocals) on a weekly basis. Having started the year with the release of his fourth compilation for Armada Music, 2008 has been a big one for him and to cap it off, he's finally bringing his sound back down under!

JOACHIM GARRAUD
Gum Prod, Paris, France

French superstar Joachim Garraud started his illustrious career in the early 1990s as a DJ at The Boy - an infamous Parisian club attributed with discovering the techno phenomenon in France. A Musicology graduate of the Academy of Music and Percussion, he moved swiftly to production and created his very own recording studio in the middle of Paris. Within its confines, for the last decade he has remixed and composed his way to the top not too mention producing artists like David Guetta, David Bowie, Kylie Minogue, Cassius and Moby along the way. Blending DJing and improvisation, Joachim's performances are truly unique. Armed with his keytar, multimedia DVD show and Space Invader friends from outer space, he travels the globe at the speed of sound!

Tocadisco Superstar Records/Toca45, Colonge, Germany

A self-taught studio wizard and DJing phenomenon, Tocadisco is one of Germany's finest, most revered dance music exports in recent years. Hailing from the uber-cool city of Cologne, since the early 2000s he's been relentlessly dropping bomb after bomb on the world's dancefloors. From original tracks like Nobody Likes (the Records I Play), You're No Good For Me and Streetgirls, to his storming remixes of Axwell, The Egg, Booka Shade, New Order and Moby; it's little wonder that Tocadisco has firmly established himself as one of the most popular and exciting artists in the booth today. A firm crowd favourite in Australia, the return of this globetrotting star with the ominous tiger logo is highly anticipated

Christopher Lawrence Pharmacy Music, Los Angeles, USA

Dubbed "A Superstar DJ" by the US's URB and One of The Most Popular DJs on the Global Circuit by DJ Magazine, Christopher Lawrence is one of the biggest, most respected and popular names in dance music today. Once an outsider in a world dominated by European and UK DJs, he has risen to the top of the international dance music heap. Now considered one of the key global players and America's leading dance music export, he regularly plays his tough techno trance sets on main stages at the world's biggest festivals and super-clubs. In the world of international dance culture, there are DJs who are leaders and those who are followers. Christopher Lawrence is a true leader.

LIFELIKE Wall Of Sound, Vulture, Paris, France

Producing first for other artists in the early/mid nineties, Lifelike joined the Parisian label 20000ST in 2001 and released his very first single. Supported by a who's who of DJs and Parisian radio FG, The Soul Of quickly became the classic summer club anthem of 2002. The rest, as they say, is history! On top of DJing all over the world, this gifted French star has remixed everyone from Justice, Chromeo and Sebastian Leger to Belle and Annie; while his collaborative tune with Kris Menace Discolpolis is one of the highest selling tunes of all time.

Mr Oizo Ed Banger Records, Paris, France

Mr. Oizo is the pseudonym of French music producer Quentin Dupieux. Dupieux is most famous for his electro track Flat Beat, which became a hit all across Europe in 1999 for being featured in a series of Levi's jeans TV advertisements. A veteran of two widely acclaimed artist albums (Analog Worms Attack and Moustache (Half a Scissor), his most recent EP, Transexual, has hit the mark with Busy P's taste-making Ed Banger crew, while his remixes for the likes of Kavinsky, Jamelia, Cassius, Scissor Sisters and Calvin Harris have caved minds worldwide! As if his DJ/producer accolades weren't enough, Oizo released his first feature film, Steak, in 2007. Vive la Oizo!

Super8 & Tab Anjunabeats, Helsinki, Finland

Leading the charge of the Scandinavian trance revolution, Finland's Miika Eloranta and Janne Mansnerus (aka Super8 & Tab) have grown to become one of the genre's favourite duos. With monster tunes like First Aid, Helsinki Scorchin, Needs to Feel and Suru to their name, and regular support from icons like Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Tiesto; it's no secret why! Infamous for fusing their tracks with unique, edgy and unusual sounds and vocals, this distinctive Super8 & Tab sound has steadily pushed the talented pair to the forefront of the international trance pack. Dividing their time between DJing, the studio and their own worldwide radio show on DI:FM, their long-awaited artist album is due to drop any minute.

And many more to be announced!
