When We Are Old & Gay
Pat Wilson and Adrian Barnes
Slide Bar - 41 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst, Sydney
Wednesday 22nd October, 2008
If you have a penchant for pestiferous cabaret which is original and entertaining seek out Adrian Barnes and Pat Wilson in their salaciously satirical show “When we are old and gay”. In an hour and a half they leak all the secrets of gerontology from a variety of intimate orientations.
Pat Wilson is a doyenne of Australian musical theatre praxis, who has produced three recordings of original material, composed for musical theatre, children’s television, had two books published, and is a preeminent practitioner of vocal pedagogy.
Adrian Barnes has a long history of performance in theatre, film, and television; is a choreographer, and an highly respected instructor in theatre studies. He trained at the Old Vic Theatre School - London, worked for several years in the West End and Repertory companies before landing in Oz and marking out a substantial career in the Australian entertainment industry.
Together Barnes and Wilson are delightfully witty in this scabrous expose of the promises and pitfalls of being a part of the grey set. Their original takes on some great standards will have you reaching for the incontinence pads yourself. When we are old and gay is packed full of lyrical ingenuity, it's uproariously funny, entertaining cabaret nouveau.

Just when you thought it was safe to come back to Oxford Street…
It’s the one-show-only return of
WHEN WE ARE OLD AND GAY
… and Adrian Barnes and Pat Wilson are just as tacky as last time.

Barnes and Wilson, with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana skin, do their all-original cabaret about getting older but never more sensible. The first season of this new show packed out the elegant Slide Bar last April. Now, the geriatric jokers return with their racy, razor-sharp musical wit.
What should a tranny granny wear?
Can you always depend on Depend, or maintain your poise with Poise?
Where are the gay suburbs of Sydney?
Where are the car keys?
These, and more, questions are fearlessly addressed. It’s silly, it’s wildly entertaining, and it’s Barnes and Wilson at their sparkling best.
He sings, she sings and plays a mean piano. You laugh – if you dare. It’s original satirical cabaret from veterans of the Edinburgh Fringe and the Melbourne Comedy Festival.
So round up your deviant old uncle, or persuade your favourite (unmarried) auntie with the diamante nipple-clips to join you , and slip into the Slide Bar for a night of riotous filth and fun.

Yes, Pat and Adrian are an extremely talented couple and you'd have to go a very long way to find anyone with the talent to string lyrics and music together in the way Miss Pat can!
