White Moth Xavier Rudd

Xavier Rudd is something to see in concert; he’s a one man band consisting of Yirdaki’s (Digeridoo’s), 12 string Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Bass, various Slide Guitars, a Stomp Box and Harmonica; he often plays three of these at once while singing. On White Moth, a lovingly pitched album filled with emotion and poetry, he is joined by Dave Tolley on Drums, Panos Grames on Hammond Organ, Milkayngu Mununggurr of the Djapu clan of NE Arnhen Land on Yirdaki Kennehe Charlette of the Cree Nation-Eagle Clan on backing vocals, also Yirrkala CEC school kids and Witiyana Marika of the Rirratjingu on same.
Rudd is a singer songwriter conscious of the undermined and disenfranchised who doesn’t pen ‘protest songs’, his are resolutely heart warming and tinged with a reggae spirit. Many of them simply express an optimistic perspective without sounding cynical, syrupy or weak while the vocal delivery is so strong. Over his past few albums the themes have become more defined while his music and voice have developed greater maturity. White Moth could well be an album that bridges between his early days and his great days
